Suddenly I got interested in the Satanic Dreamcatchers on the wall . My mind kept wandering after his face showed up and I found out that it wasn't Ben Stein doing the review ! Those Analogman Sunfaces & Barber Trifectas---and of course the EH Muffs. That's my 2 cents worth .
@OctomomsBaby - you seem to know your gear, but the whole 'Satanic Dreamcatcher' thing is way off... did you know the pentagram was once used in the Christian church to symbolize the 5 wounds of Christ?
FOR THE RECORD - THE FIVE POINTS OF THE PENTAGRAM REPRESENT THE FOUR BASIC ELEMENTS OF THE ENTIRE WORLD: AIR, FIRE, WATER, AND EARTH, WITH THE TOP-MOST POINT REPRESENTING OUR SPIRIT, WHICH RULES OVER ALL. See? There's nothing 'evil' about it.
@tony93666 -Ha ! Touche' Tony ! You have schooled me ! I knew nothing about the pentagram BUT--I didn't mean to imply "evil" in my comment . As an atheist, I don't even believe in Satan other than a rearrangement of some letters--you have "Santa " ! Now THAT is some evil shit as my recent credit card debt will show ! Your playing sounded like Sabbath-type minor stuff-that's all. Should have my EH Ge4 in a few days.If that doesn't do it for me, it'll be a tossup with the other 2.
@OctomomsBaby - no problem at all, and no offense taken... it's just become abit tedious, as I'm sure you can imagine with the dreck that inhabits youtube(and most of the world, for that matter. LOL Abit misanthropic, but... ).

i own the od 20 and i just wanted to say that the reason the sound may not b the exact same is because the tone knob on the od 20 is ultra responsive and also the drive knob goes in to "turbo", which basically adds more gain than the modeled pedal does, after a certain point so that might be why the noise is present. i recommend this pedal its really tweakable and cheap if you buy from ebay like i did. i picked mine up for 60 dollars :D
But to me, it doesn't really matter too much, there are so many other usefull bits of kit out there to mash your sounds up with and create your own sounds with
The sound you get is entirely down to your own inventiveness and creativity.
back in the 1980's, Tom Scholz, the founder/guitarist of the rock group Boston, invented a sort of headphone amp called 'the Rockman' that pretty well emulated the general guitar tone he used in the group's music, like in the song "More than A Feeling", for example. The OD20 has that tone in it. I hate it -maybe others like it. It's none of my business.
i listened to the song and i liked the tone, is the OD20 digital or analog? . . . . i do not like digital distortions like FAB tone. most of their pedals suck.
I have no idea, but this is soooooooooooo much better than the FAB tone, it's not even in the same league. It's a great pedal, seriously, try it out in real life and see if it will suit you. Youtube's sound quality is pretty bad overall, so there's no way one can make a final decision on gear based on online videos.
Every CD we own is digital too...and 99% of the albums recorded nowadays are done in Pro Tools, Cubase, etc. As far as gear goes, it's not as important as it was 10-20 years ago - technology has progressed, despite what the tube snobs repeat ad nauseum.
I personally could care less HOW a sound is generated... if I like it, that's all that counts.
lots of stuff are digital and we dont even think about them when we play. to record at home i use PODx3L wich is 100%digital
althought i like some analogic stuff, like Xotic BB -preamp, boutique overdrive kinda stuff.
in chorus for example: ive been testing some, and the CH1 gives me the smoothest notiçable chorus for clean chords, in other settings a nice bigvibe for overdrive.
for me most of the analog chorus are limited in some of these 2settings
im really not trying to be an ass. just a thought: when you set the tone, wouldn't it be more appropriate to search for the desired tone instead of setting the knobs in the exact same positions. i mean, the goal is to obtain a tone, not an image. so set the pedals with your ears more than your eyes because the od-20 was meant to replicate a sound--which you have to pin-point with your ears. awesome video, thanks!
you're not being an ass - just missing the point. I was directly comparing the real Big Muff to a model of one in the OD20, hence setting the knobs exactly the same. It's a comparison of the factory's tonal design, not my 'tone dialing-in abilities'.
It could be possible that your pickups are too close to your strings and the magnetic pull(pickups have magnets inside) is messing with your strings natural vibration...
Press the strings down on the last fret and the Bridge pickup should be adjusted about 1/16" from the strings. The neck pickup should be adjusted 1/8" on each side. Let go of the strings (from the last fret) and it should work pretty good for you.
at the end with the sustain test, i cant get that long sustain with my metal core pedal, can u explain this? i have double coil humbuckers, no noise suppresors, my guitars signal just loses all noise like the strings stopped vibrating, am i possible doing a sustain wrong?
if u can get 4 memory slots, can u save the memory and have a setting when ur not on a memory then press memory button to get between them and actually have 5 different settings, just 4 in memory and 1 can be customised?
cool demo man. i'll say that they are virtually the same. i think there is more tone control on the od20 though. but if you look at other factors, the big muff is true bypass. od-20 is just a buffered bypass. so if you think about it in performing wise... your clean tone might be affected. but really it depends on what or how you like it.

yes, there are 2 switches on the OD20, one to change between 4 presets, and one to turn the entire pedal on and off. You just set your amp for a clean tone, then get your distorted sound from the pedal. Same thing with the Big Muff(but just one sound at a time)...
correct me if im wrong but i think the muff has a lot more sustain than the OD20, i want to get an overdrive pedal and i saw the OD20 yesterday, $120, sounds kinda cheap for the whole pack of sounds it can deliver. How much did it cost you?
there's more than just a pedal in the 'sustain chain' - guitar wood, pickups, amp, etc. Both are great, and I LOVE my USA Big Muff. Even at retail, the OD20 is a FANTASTIC deal for all the various tones it can give you. I got mine in a pedal trade, plus some cash.
I would agree. I own an od 20 and it is very useful for anything you want which makes it indespensible. And unless you are going for your own sound that you want, this may or may not be the pedal for you.
no.. not the same .. yes the boss had more high end.. the e.h. seemed to have more dirt to it ..
the boss seemed to add a little dirt after the fact.. but both sound great.

ilike2live 2 years ago
they run $179 new, but I got mine from someone for $80 and a Bad Monkey overdrive pedal that I never used(I had 2).
The tones the OD-20 does: (each knob setting has 2 variations) OD-1/OD-2, DS-1/BD-2, MT-2/HM-2, METAL/LOUD, CRUNCH/STACK, BOOST/LEAD, TS-808 Tube Screamer/Fulltone Full Drive 2, MXR Distortion+/Klon Centaur, Marshall Guv'nor/ProCo RAT, Rockman/Big Muff Pi, Fuzz Face/Acetone (octave)Fuzz
the only one I don't like is the Rockman - it's the Boston(band) sound... which I hate.
