The song is kinda stupid when you think about it. saying that Superman cant stand to fly, calling superman "naive", saying that he has a "pretty" face. saying that he is only a man in a "funny/silly red sheet". Superman is not naive. He does not look pretty. He looks handsome. A girl has a pretty face, not a guy. His cape it not funny or silly. Its not a sheet, it a cape. You cant take all the lyrics literally. The lyrics are used to be metaphorically understood, to convey Superman's vulnerabilities. He's not perfect, in fact his flaws make him more real and human. The lyrics reflect perfectly imo to Christoher Reeve. Although human, did superhuman feats.  He is the real Superman.

You're reading too far into it... the song is meant to represent the inner restlessness of Superman. This guy is looked upon as a God. a messiah, but he has problems of his own... He belongs nowhere. His home is gone, his new home is full of people of a different species. He's not dissing the cape or the image, he's just stating that underneath all of the symbolism is a person. Christopher Reeve knew how to give that human side off very well.

Very nice video. Chris was only one of a handful of "stewards" of the Superman role, but he was one of the best, if not THE best. But I like each actor's take on the role. There really hasn't been a superman I didn't like.
