I've rarely seen Manhatten Transfer deliver a lacklustre performance...they are passionate vocalists and dedicated to their craft and you can instantly tell that they love to sing...cool cats :)
maaannn..i remember this show. it just seemed like a bad SNL ripoff. it was seldom funny. but now to see one of my all time jazz vocal group, The Manhattan Transfer, was one of their guests, i have a new respect for the show.
I have to do this for this one group I am in (The best group of singing at the school) We will be preforming in Washington D.C. in March 2012I hope I dont mess up for the altos!!!!
"Fridays" was such a lame show. A less than feeble attempt to compete with Saturday Night Live, which was at this point, itself reaching a low point before Eddie Murphy revived it. The only thing of note that came out of "Fridays" was Michael Richards. I bet no one could name another cast member of "Fridays". The only reason i watched it when I was in my very early 20s was to catch the musical guests. That was the high point of the night.
Larry David for one but true not many made it from the cast of Fridays. I think the one thing everybody will remember of that show was when Andy Kaufman stepped out of character and smacked Michael Richards if memory serves!
the MT hit #7 in Billboard, 8-8-81. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! One of my high school teachers, Connie Relias, looked somewhat like Janis Siegel, the lead singer.
1 person isn't crazy for the boy. Billboard's #36 hit of '81. To be fair, Janis Siegel, the lead, is the alto of the group. Cheryl Bentyne's the soprano. God bless! Hugs to ya, for postin' it!
Manhattan Transfer was not only popular in the ´70´s but they made also great music during the ´80´s...MORE FANTASTIC ´80´s music at my channel!!! Take a look....
Janis in gauchos.......Cheryl in a long black dress, a young jazz players dream dates in the late 70's early 80's....LOL still love these guys 30 years later, great shows even today.
ich mag das immer noch wie vor 40 jähren ich durfte mit amerikaner am hbf frankfurt am gleis 1 kleine partys feiern. die jungs sind nach berlin zum dienst
I'm their number one fan. I've seen them 15 times in concert, and organized a phone interview with Cheryl Bentyne back in the summer of 1980 (possibly 1981...but I think it was 1980), with Steve King of WIND in Chicago. She was calling from Oklahoma, and after he interviewed her, I was the only one who apparently called in..so I got to talk to her for about a half hour. It was wonderful. I've wanted to replace her for thirty years...and sing about as well as her too. Ella & ManTran -my favs
This was the sond my lifelong girlfriend and I shared as our theme song. We blasted it on the car stereo all the way to the disco, every Friday and Saturday night. I miss you Beanie. You'll never be forgotten.
Hit #4 AC, #7 pop in Billboard. The lead singer, Janis Siegel, always looked like 1 of my high school teachers, Connie Relias. Connie, if you're out there, giive me a shout. God bless!
Just practice, practice, practice. And just when you think you can't practice anymore, just do it one more time. Someday, you could be even *better* than her! Good luck to you! ;-)

When black comedians talk about "white people", this is what they're talking about.
