hey man great video. i really like how you explained everything you have and didnt just start climbing like alot of peoples "informational" videos. how exacly is it that you used your foot to pull down on the rope and keep going?
@xxkittenkiller sorry for the delay.. I rarely use this account anymore. the ropes are looped around my foot, in a fashion that when downward force is applied it cinches around the foot locking the rope.
as far as the footlocking thing goes, you could just kick into the hanging part of your line with the outside of your right foot, then use the outside of your left to rap it around the right. You could then step on the rope with your left, holding it between the two feet and then stand up. Once you get the coordination down and a little height, the weight of the rope will pull it between your feet and you can keep your hands on your rig above the hitch and it should make for a smoother ascent.
static line as apposed to dynamic line has very little or no stretch, and is used for all sorts of things from tree/rock climbing to mountaineering, mainly for ascension, it wont hold a friction hitch cuz its too stiff and is "tensil" as people call it, dynamic line gives, it stretches or bounces and is used for free climbing/descending ect. there are all sorts of kind and styles of rope avail, and yes they do make special arborist rope, what this guys climbing on is made in austria it cost alot
Can someone tell me what rope i need to get to climb trees. I would like to climb with friction knots rather than mechanical acenders... i have bought a static climbing rope to use but i have found that the friction knots keep on slowly slipping when i have weight on it. anyone know why?
and is there any difference between arborists rope and regular climbing rope?
@CarlLewenski ,dude has not signed in for a month , so I'll answer. Roughly figured like this. Harness=250 , rope=150 , all the rest= about 70 . In U.S. dollars.
I suggest this kit needs a rocket to stick up his arse or maybe a pantin , secured footlocking like that is painfully slow , a sit stand double foot prussic would be good for a learner with that setup.
nice work, one thing, use a different termination knot for the lead of your rope, either a triple fishermen's, anchre, or a bunt line. reason behind that is if your beaner twists and you side load it while your hip thrusting at all, you will break it, maybe not the first or second time, but 7kn isn't enough to take your weight, while shock loading it,
at 80 kg's you put about 1000 kg's which is roughly 9kn, a better knot would eliminate the chance of side loading your beaner
The real word for Water Oak is Pin Oak, a type of Red Oak. The scientific name is Quercus Palustris. I climb to 45 feet in my Pin Oaks without a rope.
What do you mean by dumbass? Do you mean that I am lying, or that I am crazy for doing it? If you think I am lying, look at some of my videos. If you just think that I'm crazy for doing that, then I have to say that I'm not. It's not as dangerous as it may seem.
I know it's dangerous, but we all do stupid things. I like doing things the old way, instead of the new way. Tree climbing, by definition, is climbing a tree. Most of the time, using a rope would be classifed as repelling.
nobody plans on falling, but u retard free climbers swear it will never happen to you, and then when it does it reflects on our entire industry and makes us all look bad, then the gov decides to put more rules and regulations in effect. and the only way to get it through there heads is if they bounce
and repelling is coming down on a rope, doesnt have anything to do with climbing and working on them
I am a free climber, and I NEVER think that nothing will happen to me. You're 50 feet in the air, for God's sake! Anything that I do that is risky, I always consider the consequences.
Again, please do not generalize every free climber. We're not all the same. We just do stupid things, and we know what the outcome could be. That's what makes it fun!
check all the PPE before climb, safety comes first even for lessure climb.

That's all new gear there are plenty of other means of getting up a tree that are alot more efficiant than that.
For example a foot accender would totally speed that system up.
And for all you people who free climb, if you work as an arborist than you are fools and your days are numbered.
greendamian 3 years ago 2
that's a really slow system, huh?

How do you know that I am a free/tree climber? Do you have ESP? Anyways, yes I am. But how did you know?
Look, we all do stupid things.
99.999 percent of drivers have broken the speed limit.
Many teenagers have experimented with drugs, alcohol, sexual activities.
Everyone has done something stupid. Stop trying to sound self-righteous. You sin and make mistakes.
And, btw, stop generalizing and stereotyping. Most free climbers actually ACCEPT the risk that they may fall.
