I just rented one of these with the 2.4 16 valve it runs pretty good but the workmanship and quality are lacking, the price is low enough but now after driving one I can see why. tin can with wheels.
Just bought the 2.4 liter 5 speed with the cash for clunkers rebate and a $2500 manufacturer/dealer rebate, came out to a grand total of $11000. You can't buy a decent used car for that price, and yeah I know it's discontinued, all the better not every Joe & Jill will have one.
I just rented one. Great car. Since Pontiac is going away, GM should move this model to Chevy to keep selling them. It would be a waste not to sell this car anymore.
@2008ljr Unfortunately the Vibe is a Toyota. It is a Pontiac version of the Toyota Matrix, and the Matrix is the hatchback version of the Corolla, so there's still the Corolla if you want it. Still, I recommend you wait for the Chevy Cruze. HHR might work too.
I own an 09 Vibe GT and let me tell you...it is awesome! Yes the interior is a study in hard plastic, but what do you want for a car under $20k? It's comfortable, roomy, reliable, fun and useful for hauling people and stuff. It also handles really nicely in the snow without having to have AWD.
love mine..i have a gt manual.. its a great car in the snow...why waste gas and money on awd. this does fine. The inside is easy to wipe out when i drag my mountainbike out of the back.. both wheels on. its a little cheap inside, but i dont want to be wrecking a lexus when im dragging my gear in and out. Its fun to drive for a toy hauler.. beats a minivan or suv.
Good point about handling in snow...I was worried about how it would do, but it does drive great in snow. And yes, the interior plastic is a bit cheap and scratches easy. I just bought some thick felt cloth for the back for like $10 to protect it.
Toyota Matrix is built in Ontario, Canada. They are mechanically identical however. Old Vibe's GT engine was a swap from the Celica GT, not a "Hopped up version of the old 1.8L".. Probably should get your facts straight.
i rode in an 07 vibe...while being a good car, the only flaws i could find were the engine was a tad buzzy, typical for a 1.8, and the pontiacs build quality wasnt that impressive, center armrest was aligned properly and it jiggled back and fourth.
I like the looks of this wagon! IMO, Pontiac definitely wins in the style category; the Matrix is fugly as sin. Toyota offers Navi with it--big whoop! I do wish there was full iPod integration with the Vibe though. I thought there was supposed to be a kit to remedy this error? Still, much love to Vibe; I think it's awesome.
I'm confused... wasn't Toyota supposed to be the conservative looking cars and Pontiac were supposed to be the "looking" cars. I mean they upgraded the Matrix look indefinitely but this car looks like it got bigger and new tail lamps and quit?
lol have you driven the caliber? it's slow compared to the vibe. it might have 170'ish hp but 0-60 is around 10 seconds or more. unless you're talking about the srt one then that's a different category. plus, the caliber interior looks far cheaper than the vibe. i've test drove both.
I own a Caliber R/T (non AWD) and it would kick the ass off the POS Vibe hands down. Don't go by magazine numbers. As always...they under rate vehicles. The interior of the Caliber looks much better than the Vibe. Yes, there is some hard plastic, but Pontiac has always had shitty interiors and this continues in this model.
well there you go...people are always bias to what they have. since i don't have either one of them, i only test drove them and the new vibe gt wins hands down!
I test drove both and the Vibe is a POS! Caliber wins hands down! You couldn't give me that FUGLY looking box on wheels. Basically all you're buying is a Toyota with a Pontiac name plate and they still couldn't get the car right....
well guess what...today at the shop i was getting an oil change and there was a caliber getting something fixed. i asked the owner and he said this was the 3rd visit to the shop in two months for various problems. he hates the caliber and told me he's getting an accord...but he doesn't like the vibe tho...i guess he was a caliber fan boy like you...until he got fed up with the cheap ass car lol
LOL I have a caliber awd as a Fleet car and no wonder it only cost 15 000$ cnd awd... It's way more cheaper all around than the new vibe or matrix 2009. How do you like you plastic on plastic sliding console! hahahaha
I would buy one ( ^ ' . ' ^ ), yes they are the same although slight differences for example: destination fee, Matrix (25 City/31) Vibe (26 City/32 Highway, $1000-2000 base price difference,Anti-corrosion warranty Miles & Months Matrix(Unlimited & 60,000) Vibe 100,000 & 72000) everything else is dead even, Matrix has a sporty style but the Vibe has more masculinity....
Nope. Toyota has plants in Kentucky, Texas, Indiana, California,Ontario,Mississippi,Alabama, and West Virgina. Most North American sold Toyotas are built in the US or Canada. They have NO plants in Mexico.
The Matrix, Corolla, Vibe are built in California.
The name of the plant is New United Motor Manufacturing in Fremont, California.

@2008ljr GM might have to make a contract with Toyota if they do want to sell the Pontiac Vibe since engine does come from Toyota.

Who would buy a matrix?
It's essentially the same thing as a vibe.
It doesnt support the big 3 or our economy
It's more expensive.
It's got a shorter warranty.
It looks worse than the vibe.
Anyone? Anyone?
