  • Thanks for this wonderful post. It's probably my imagination, but knowing the timing of this performance, it almost seems like Neil and Tim knew Hessie was having a rough go of it. For the always perfectionist Neil to show such encouraging body language seems unusual. As if they're trying to 'get that vibe going' in more ways than just the song, but no one could conquer Paul's demons. RIP Hessie, you are deeply missed.

  • Brillsville!

  • so good live, wat a band

  • Saw them in Belfast a few years ago and they were just AWESOME.

  • Such a complicated brotherhood.......but we are fortunate they shared it with us.

  • When I see this it is so hard to believe Paul is gone...............

  • those Finn boys are pretty damn good ain't they?

  • brilliant, the brothers finn...

  • Great to see Hessy. This couldn't have been long before he passed on

  • @stevemcarthur1981 ...it's about 3 months before his death and his last ever performance with Neil and Tim.

  • Weather with you love the hit,n IM A BELEIVER of such theories 'Aotearoa NZ loves you'...are use n FB Aotea supporterz of Bromotions :-D

  • These are our boys, from Te Awamutu, New Zealand - BRILLIANT! We were in the UK on our OA - we'd bought a campervan which had the old tape for music and we had no music until we found a CROWDED HOUSE - WOODFACE tape at a market - WONDERFUL this song will always remind us of our fantastic European travels!

  • These are our boys, from Te Awamutu, New Zealand - BRILLIANT!

  • Thanks heaps reminds me of home xxxxxx

  • i'm so sorry paul had to leave us... he was a genius along with the others

  • very sad paul hanged himself off a tree R.I.P

  • @kingshaun67 Old Paul must have been into Auto-Erotic asphyxiation.

  • Hessie's harmony at the end - so fscking bittersweet...

  • These guys apart are fantastic artists and so talented, but together they are unsurpassed, great harmonies, they complement each other. I have always loved thier work, back in the Enz days, right through to today...Owesum!!

  • love the guys this song is what started me loving them stll do all those years as then i was 21 now im 40 ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Thank you for posting. Lovely video! Fantastic band .. Nice to see Paul and everybody here. I'm their biggest fan from the Phils. since the beginning.

  • fucking gold!

  • R.I.P. Paul...

  • The dogs ;)

  • amazin,never tire watching this,fookin beautiful xx

  • This song just has so many memories. This album was the crowdies pinnacle vocally.

The loss of Paul Hester was a loss to the Australian music industry and to anyone who loved the Crowdies music.

I could listen to these guys for hours.....wait...I still do.

  • Damn they are soo good live!

  • Comment removed

  • When this was recorded?Thanks!

  • @alfonsorusso84 ...November 2004 (not sure of the exact day)

  • @noteatpig2getha Thank you very much! So this should be Paul Hester's last appearence with Crowded House? This is really sad...

  • @alfonsorusso84 ...you're welcome, and yes. this is Paul's last performance with Tim and Neil.

  • @alfonsorusso84

I'm pretty sure this was actually in support of the Finn Brothers album "Everyone Is Here" - it's not a Crowdies performance because Nick's not there. Hessie I think presented this show and it's a lovely and poignant performance as a result. I get a little teary when I hear him nail those backing vocals, that's for sure.

  • This is just so brilliant and how great it is to see Hessy loking so happy here? :-)

  • Brilliant, would love to see them live??? cos they can play live? x

  • Ahhh, the Paul and John of UNZID. Magic !

  • these guys always sound GREAT together...

  • 1ndi64 has kung fu fighting on his site as one of his favorites. enough said. wanker

  • The mentally challenged 1ndi64 following me around to different sites again....

  • You're a sad cunt. Fuck off back to Eurotrash land/

  • great song...great talent!

  • And to think in a few months later Paul commited suicide. Thanks for posting this beautiful memory of a talented guy doing what he did best. RIP Hessie.

  • Wow! Good video for a song from my favorite Crowded House album...

  • I still miss Paul every single day, his infamous clowning around doesn't really do justice to his technical prowess, man he had chops, anyone who can drum and harmonize like he did is heading into savant territory. I remeber Neil phoning Paul on the try whistling this tour, it was a moment. god bless youi sir.

  • Words cannot express how much I love the Finn brothers, and here is just one of the many reasons why..........beautiful!

  • This is music, not the crap that is all over the t.v./radio today XD

  • This is great, some of the best ever written, but I can't agree that music today is crap, there is some great stuff out there. Check out 6 music, or even Radio 2 in the UK.

  • Ya obvs :D, I meant just in general ya know, there is still some good music being produced nowadays, just not as good as it was :D.

  • Thanks, noteatpig2getha! It's an AMAZING live performance, mix and all! I too enjoy Paul Hester's drumming, singing, fooling around...sometimes it's sad to realize he killed himself, but usually he is very entertaining to me. Split Enz had one hit in the USA; "I Got You", 1980, and I've been a Neil Finn fan since. (Split Enz, Crowded House, Solo, Finn Brother's, etc...)

  • "Thanks, noteatpig2getha! "

You're welcome....thanks for having good taste - I hope you're still enjoying the Finns. Have you heard Tim's son Liam?

  • No, I've not; but I will listen to him soon.

  • nb - should read "Neil's son" (Liam)

  • breathtaking..

  • The greatest songwriters are often the best storytellers as well .. and Neil Finn is definitely up there with the best ...

  • The "small boat" represents society I think. Impressive lyrics.

  • One word: TALENT.

  • Has to be one of the great performances, Hessie just stokes the emotions, and the Bros just cook.

  • Awesome the keys at the start sound off key but work superb top class

  • R.I.P. Hessie. I spent some time in Elsternwick Park last week and sat for a while near where you left this world. I also suffer from depression and it terrifies me I'll get to that point. I truly hope you've found peace from those Demonds mate.

  • There are other ways to feel at peace, I wish you well.

  • Take care of yourself, remember to breathe, enjoy the small things.

  • @13Palmerston Don't give up, mate.

  • @13Palmerston Hold on, friend - just hold on and don't give up. I've been there too, and there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, even if you can't see it yet. There's ALWAYS something to live for.

  • knight them since nz has brort it bak

  • I had the privilege to shake Mr Hesters hand. I guess some people shine too brightly.

    miss you dude.

  • These guys are the best! Paul could lay down some tasty drums parts. R.I.P.

  • in buy the way,,, not im lol sorry guys. LOVE YA ALL. :)

  • Well guys, i'm a kiwi, and yes they ROCK..... I'm so lucky to have such a good band im my country.... The best kiwi band ever, and will forever.... I love ya all for loving such quality music.. I say a BIG THANK YOU. :)

  • The Finn brothers have truly left there mark.

From Split Enz to Crowded House, they just totally

    remain amazing...

  • I could sit and listen to the Finn brothers sing the phone book...; how could so much talent come from one family??

This is amazing -- thanks for posting this.

  • now that was this that and the other, sorry, got woman fingers on keyboard again....aint no words from me,i cant speak after that x

  • Can't agree more aaron, this is a very special concert.....with both brothers and Paul joining them on the skins..:)

  • The Finns, Crowded House, Split Enz are always amazing live. This is a particularly great rendition.

  • Hear, hear

  • A monster talent. Neil should be listed as a world heritage...

  • Both Neil and Time have been loved by THIS guy here in the U.S. for 20 years +. Their contribution to music is unfounded.

  • Hell yes, and do not forget Dutch fans!

  • years ago, i made love to this song.

i remember lying in warm folds of blankets discovering the warmth of a girls body.

we spent hours doing what boys and girls do.

to this day that memory haunts me, but i still love this song.

  • Too much Rain lately.....but a Great song..always watched the video clips when they were high up in the charts...on telly

  • I hate watching this, purely 'cause Paul is in it, and it makes me sad. Amazing song though.

  • Great song, great brothers...

  • good session,thanks !

  • I love Tim!

  • Fantastic song, Neil Finn is just amazing.

  • Sorry I don't share your opinion on the mix...the video is obviously compressed and therefore sound quality is affected somewhat but even the original by Crowded House has the electric out front and the acoustic buried a little further in the mix.

  • Absolutely, but I think they have just mixed it not as well live, mostly from and that has no reflection on crowded house or FB themselves, I was merely complaining about the way Music Max has mixed it from (1:39). Brilliantly performed though as expected.

  • Woodface is pretty close to being my all-time favorite album. LOVE it! And this is one of the best Finn clips I've ever seen, thanks so much for posting it! :)

  • thank you guys, you are one of the main reasons I still believe excellent music can be made. Paul, we still miss you buddy.

  • i love neil's 12 string he plays on this song

  • Paul Hester was one of the best drummers ever. His loss was a tragic one.

  • is neil playing mark hart's guitar? :0

  • Not sure ...but it looks the same as the guitar Hart is pictured with in a Wikipedia entry

  • This is the last time Paul performed w/ Neil, right?

  • Always a delight... but when is this?

  • It was November (22nd?) 2004.
