Thanks for this wonderful post. It's probably my imagination, but knowing the timing of this performance, it almost seems like Neil and Tim knew Hessie was having a rough go of it. For the always perfectionist Neil to show such encouraging body language seems unusual. As if they're trying to 'get that vibe going' in more ways than just the song, but no one could conquer Paul's demons. RIP Hessie, you are deeply missed.
These are our boys, from Te Awamutu, New Zealand - BRILLIANT! We were in the UK on our OA - we'd bought a campervan which had the old tape for music and we had no music until we found a CROWDED HOUSE - WOODFACE tape at a market - WONDERFUL this song will always remind us of our fantastic European travels!
These guys apart are fantastic artists and so talented, but together they are unsurpassed, great harmonies, they complement each other. I have always loved thier work, back in the Enz days, right through to today...Owesum!!
Thank you for posting. Lovely video! Fantastic band .. Nice to see Paul and everybody here. I'm their biggest fan from the Phils. since the beginning.
I'm pretty sure this was actually in support of the Finn Brothers album "Everyone Is Here" - it's not a Crowdies performance because Nick's not there. Hessie I think presented this show and it's a lovely and poignant performance as a result. I get a little teary when I hear him nail those backing vocals, that's for sure.
And to think in a few months later Paul commited suicide. Thanks for posting this beautiful memory of a talented guy doing what he did best. RIP Hessie.
I still miss Paul every single day, his infamous clowning around doesn't really do justice to his technical prowess, man he had chops, anyone who can drum and harmonize like he did is heading into savant territory. I remeber Neil phoning Paul on the try whistling this tour, it was a moment. god bless youi sir.
This is great, some of the best ever written, but I can't agree that music today is crap, there is some great stuff out there. Check out 6 music, or even Radio 2 in the UK.
Thanks, noteatpig2getha! It's an AMAZING live performance, mix and all! I too enjoy Paul Hester's drumming, singing, fooling around...sometimes it's sad to realize he killed himself, but usually he is very entertaining to me. Split Enz had one hit in the USA; "I Got You", 1980, and I've been a Neil Finn fan since. (Split Enz, Crowded House, Solo, Finn Brother's, etc...)
R.I.P. Hessie. I spent some time in Elsternwick Park last week and sat for a while near where you left this world. I also suffer from depression and it terrifies me I'll get to that point. I truly hope you've found peace from those Demonds mate.
@13Palmerston Hold on, friend - just hold on and don't give up. I've been there too, and there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, even if you can't see it yet. There's ALWAYS something to live for.
Well guys, i'm a kiwi, and yes they ROCK..... I'm so lucky to have such a good band im my country.... The best kiwi band ever, and will forever.... I love ya all for loving such quality music.. I say a BIG THANK YOU. :)
Sorry I don't share your opinion on the mix...the video is obviously compressed and therefore sound quality is affected somewhat but even the original by Crowded House has the electric out front and the acoustic buried a little further in the mix.
Absolutely, but I think they have just mixed it not as well live, mostly from and that has no reflection on crowded house or FB themselves, I was merely complaining about the way Music Max has mixed it from (1:39). Brilliantly performed though as expected.
Woodface is pretty close to being my all-time favorite album. LOVE it! And this is one of the best Finn clips I've ever seen, thanks so much for posting it! :)

This song just has so many memories. This album was the crowdies pinnacle vocally.
The loss of Paul Hester was a loss to the Australian music industry and to anyone who loved the Crowdies music.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
How how terrible is the sound mix,
typical music max style...
the electric guitar is way too loud,
it should be all about the vocals and acoustic guitar..
