  • No offense but the soprano at the very beginning were so flat on that very high A note. Sounds like a Ab being played with an A key.

  • This choir chose good songs, this and Elijah Rock., which my high school honor choir both sang are amazing songs... You all sound great on this, even better on Elija Rock, good job Choir, Go Soprano 1s!

  • It is true for this song that the altos should have a sense of prescense, and most choirs that perform this don't seem to let the altos have their moment. But for this choir, the sopranos seem to have not as powerful or pronounced entry, especially near the beginning.

  • Altos simply make this whole piece <3. My Choir teacher would murder us if we moved that much though. o_o

  • lol, (I'm not being mean but...) It makes me laugh on how much you move. Our teacher wouldn't like us too much if we did that much movement in such a song. But it's still a great song. Good job everybody!

  • Way to much Verbrato my choir teacher would have killed us if we would had don that at the begining but other then after that the verbrato goes away and its good ^_^

  • This song... makes me cry. It's so beautiful...

  • I sang this during the Meistersinger Honor Choir Festival in 2008. It was sooo intense!!! we had about 200 people singing it. I love this song! This is a Pretty good version too!

  • My choir, the advanced one, is gonna sing this. We're singing this song at christmas.

  • excellent job!

  • Agreed! Best version on youtube! The ending was not as nice as I expected it to be, but overall this is a job well done!

  • we sang this song at my chorus concert during Christmas in florida its called the prism concert and everyone buys tickets so fast they are litteraly gone within the 1st week its very rare if we have any leftover but the audience loves it and thats wats worth it

  • amazing!! i was attracted to it because of elijah rock... and its great! and im finaly getting my honors choir to do it next year....

  • What a incredible voice that 1st. soprano has, very beautiful piece.

  • i listened to this song because i liked their version of elijah rock.... i had no idea that this song would entice me that much... wonderful performance

  • I was very fortunate in January 2007 to sing this song as a part of the Wyoming All-State Choir. We were conducted by Z. Randall Stroope himself. It was an absolutely amazing experience!

  • to me, it seemed like the altos were a little too strong on this piece, which is usually a good thing. sopranos didn't drown them out in this one with that high A. to me it seemed a little slowed down for my liking. but that's my honest opinion. they needed a little more dynamics. it sounded too much on the same dynamic level to me. of course, it could be the position of the camera for that too. other than that it was really good.

  • this is one of the better recordings of this song on youtube. GOod joob! I enjoyed this thoroughly!

  • OMG!! i love this song

you guys did a masterful job!

  • who is the composer of this piece?

  • Z. Randal Stroope. he teaches at nebraska university and directions some like world reknown childrens choir

  • Woah...my choir (obviously along with myself) sang this song way faster than this...were we singing it wrong?

  • it always just depends on the conductor. but i think that, as it is with all music, the introduction of a song really sets the mood, and the slower tempo nails the "lamentations" part of the song (..which ties in well with the "si est dolor" in the middle) but anyway. yeah, there's not really a RIGHT way to sing a song, but certain interpretations are more effective.

  • We did this song for All-State last year.

God it sends chills down my spine every time I hear it.

  • it sounded good but tooo much movement we are doin this song as a high school mass choir piece its really beautiful

  • Great Job. I guess the camera was on the Soprano side, because you can hear them very clearly. But thats a good thing because your sopranos are lovely

  • i understand moving around a bit during a performance, but the guy in the front row to the left is overdoing it...it looks like he's about to fall off the risers.

  • i thought it was performed very well....vibrato wasn't so bad...it was okay,in the beginning i thought you could have taken it a bit slower to allow a eerie and mournful sound to it, and you could have started of kinda softer then gone louder yet still very mournful...but other than that...oh yeah...and the ending needed to be be kind of....slower? maybe? but other than that, very nice ^__^

  • its sounds good the blend is good but the vibrato on girls part..especially the soprano part in the beginning doesn't allow it to be as haunting as it could be. when we preformed it we took the beginning slower.

  • Rushed? If they took it much slower it would be downright ponderous. Choral Ensemble is known for having a wonderful dark tone WITH vibrato - the McKinney style leans toward the more ornamental classical styles, rather than a straight tone. It's stylistic, that's all.

This wasn't the best angle to record from, but that's a cameraman thing, not a choir thing. It just makes it harder to hear the full blend, and easier to hear anyone on this end (and the piano).

Great job as always guys. ^_^

  • im used to it being slower and i do think it is slower... it sounds rushed

  • I thought this was okay, but everything was very much in the back of the throat. Singing in the throat will only hurt your voice and you CAN sound dark without singing in the back of the throat. Plus the sopranos arent suppose 2 have a vibrato so when they went to the high notes it sounded wierd =/ i luv this song though my choir did it for competition and now we're gonna perform it in state its such a powerful song

  • Sorry, but I completely disagree.

I don't know what your idea of back of the throat is, but it has never hurt my voice.

& it probably depends on your idea of singing dark too. There's definitely nothing wrong with singing in the back of the throat or with a raised palette.

& they aren't supposed to have a vibrato? I completely disagree. It really depends on preference and whether the director wants it there or not. But there's nothing wrong with it.

  • I've actually found this version to be one of the better I've heard on youtube. I do know what you mean with singing in the back of the throat, but I don't think they were doing it so much in this piece. They did do a good job on producing a dark, rich tone though.

Plus, the vibrato is up to the director's disgression. My choir sang this song this past fall and my conductor wanted vibrato. You are no one to judge how things should and shouldn't be.

This song reminds me of the apocalypse (:

  • the only problem i have with this song is, i went to first fest and i hear 4 different choirs sing it

so for some reason my choir HAS to sing it

otherwise its an excellent and moving song.

  • my choir sang this my freshman year and

it was incredible. we sang it a LOT

faster though..it might help with the

ones who push their voice and sing

    with too much vibrato.

  • if the song is sung too fast the judges cant fully appreciate the beauty of the song. too much speed means the notes and chords are passed to quickly and not really enjoyed. and this is a classical latin song, vibrato is usually used in classical.

  • we recieved straight 1's and got sweepstakes. the judges never said anything about the speed of the song or the chords being "passed to quickly and not really enjoyed" when you use too much vibrato it sounds tacky and voices stick out. our rendtition of this was very good..we got no negativity on it at all.

  • I'm not saying faster is worse, i just prefer it at the speed we did it. we did try it a little faster in the si est dolor section, but we (the choir) didnt like it as much. we do need to work on -blend- but i dont think anyone is pushing for much more vibrato than they have naturally when singing in a classical tone. last year we had a very classical song with lots of vibrato and the judges still scored high for us. sorry about the double post, that was accidental.

  • Choir was excellent, even though the piano was extremely out of tune.

  • gOoD wOrK. hArD sOnG..sOunDs gOoD tO mE..kEeP iT uP!!

  • good work! nice sound. keep singing. =)

  • Its a dark song. And its classical. Bringing it to the front will only make it brighter. And Thats not the right tone or attitude of the song. It needs to have that dark sound. The song is about lamenting, crying, wheeping. Not, "seasons of love".

So it has to be in the back of the throat.

  • definitely agree with blackmovieguy. latin songs are supposed in the back of the throat.
