Stevie, you went your way, and left us behind. I hope to walk together with you one day even for just a moment. Love you, miss you, thanks for the music.
I had the pleasure of seeing Stevie and Jeff Beck play together in Louisville, KY before Stevie's untimely and premature demise. I still get the goosebumps when I hear this song!
correc if I'm wrogn but i thought that this song was about stevie's problems with alcool and its addiction...so drop is referred so drop of alcool, isn't it?
Stevie's gone but that's ok. He's in The All-Star Celestial Jam Band with all the other greats playin' and smilin' and greeting new audience members all the time.
I'm named after Stevie Ray, and on the date of his death this year I saw his brother Jimmy live and after the concert I met him and I had a guitar player magazine from a few years after he died with a interview from Jimmy about Stevie and he signed to me as "To Stevie Ray -Jimmy" and I got my picture taken with him.. best moment of my life.
this tune brings a little tiny tear to the corner of my eye. i love this song, it moves me, and that's what music is all about for me !!! heavy or melancholy, if it gets a reaction at a gut level, it's a winner. love ya Stevie !!!

@ppppdmt There are many perceptions to this song ; i think what he was talking about how some friends leave each other in life and don't speak anymore.
I spent 5 years on the scene doin Stevie covers and loved every minute of it , I quit cause it was too hard on the soul . 8 years ago I had a son born on august 27 , go figure , he loves SRV and sings life by the drop .
@blisster22 that might explain why I asked the question- see how that works? Do you not hear the resemblance in melodies? Im not saying who copied who- but someone borrowed from someone here i would say
Gosh I love this song, it's amazing how hearing a song can transport you to specific time or place. Me the summer of 93, with my boyfriend driving down a country road...
You know im 15 and i listen to metal, heavy metal, gore metal, black metal etc.. but i still love SRV hes a great artist i just wish i could have seen him live or met him once this is music that will last throughout the ages and he will continue to be loved by lots of people. i just hope hes having a great time where he is now RIP Stevie we will all miss you
The wonderful thing about this song is the simplicity that Stevie showed. Its just a simple accoustic blues riff and pure emotion. Stevie didn't always need a blazing electric guitar to pull us in. He was great on so many levels................
@That1nerdkid1 If Hendrix and SRV had played together, it would have blown a hole in space-time and destroyed the universe as we know it. They can only play together in Heaven.
@thedrizzle09 This song is not about Vaughan's struggle with drug abuse, as many think, but actually about Vaughan's friendship with Doyle Bramhall from Bramhall's perspective. Bramhall wrote this song and played the acoustic on this track.
I still remember where I was and what I was doing the day Stevie died, one of my only regrets in life is that I never got to see him play live RIP S.R.V. Thank You for the music and the memories!!!
I don't fucking understand why people wanna listen to Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus.. there is'nt no soul in that crap... Stevie Ray Vaughan put so much soul in his music, and that's how I know that he was an real artist.. R.I.P. SRV

@minorfx Your remarks were stupid because you blame a machine for the loss of SRV. A machine built by man for man's benefit. It was human error. It's like blaming winter weather for the loss of Buddy Holley & RicheyV?? WTF!!?? When you get a clue..use it and don't try to justify your stupid comment, just realize you're an idiot and move on!
@esbramakopf What? This is about his alcoholism addiction. "Life by the drop". Figure it out. It's about his struggle to overcome it. "My mind is achin', Lord it won't stop." "My mind stopped achin'". All about his stuggles.
Daaammn... That gave me goosebumps... Deep and totally true, to bad tho once he finally got healthy and stopped doin all the bad stuff he had to leave earth early... How awesome would that be??? @sonjahardin2005 Actually, I'm pretty sure Clapton gave SRV his seat. Clapton was supposed to be there INSTEAD of Stevie, not with him. And Clapton is great, but he's done nothing worth listening to in a long time, and I personally think SRV's best work was yet to come. But oh well.
I've always really loved this song, because it's intense and so beautiful. I'm just curious... what is this song about exactly? Is there a story behind it? Just wondering. Thanks, whoever shared this.
@SaratheSlytherin Well, life by the drop; get it? Living with drinking. Stevie did enjoy a good whiskey. He had a problem (as if we all don't) and eventually got sober. Actually, not a few months after he got sober, he died in that horrible crash. This was the last song on the last album he recorded. It's a tearjerker for sure.
His death, some 20 years on, still bothers me. It shouldn't have happened that way. Not him. Not like that. He cut through the crap and gave you the real thing in an era that favored fluff and hair bands. He stood out in front of them all. He was blues, rock, soul, and above all......himself.
@cromly : He was gifted and found his talent through rough times. He elevated with his music so high that made the devil envy enough to sent his daemons to haunt him. What happened then? He fought hard and HE WON!
Believe it or not, he moved to a higher level, his mission was somewhat divine. He conquered death.
Check out my cover of this song on my channel!

He had to go that way. He didn't die, he flew on!
