  • man... a helicopter crash... doesn't that suck! He could be alive now!

  • Stevie, you went your way, and left us behind. I hope to walk together with you one day even for just a moment. Love you, miss you, thanks for the music.

  • I had the pleasure of seeing Stevie and Jeff Beck play together in Louisville, KY before Stevie's untimely and premature demise. I still get the goosebumps when I hear this song!

  • Stevie was just a cool guy i love this song.

  • Doyle Bramhall born 2/17/1949 died 11/12/2011. Author of 'Life by the Drop',close friend to SRV.

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO This is a 12 string guitar, too. It is just awesome.

  • my man's song miss him soo much

  • correc if I'm wrogn but i thought that this song was about stevie's problems with alcool and its addiction...so drop is referred so drop of alcool, isn't it?

  • @edo8200

    Indeed.

  • Stevie's gone but that's ok. He's in The All-Star Celestial Jam Band with all the other greats playin' and smilin' and greeting new audience members all the time.

  • Happy birthday SRV

  • I'm named after Stevie Ray, and on the date of his death this year I saw his brother Jimmy live and after the concert I met him and I had a guitar player magazine from a few years after he died with a interview from Jimmy about Stevie and he signed to me as "To Stevie Ray -Jimmy" and I got my picture taken with him.. best moment of my life.

  • @StevieRay8694 That is a awesome story. You should feel totally honored to carry his name. Way Kool.

  • nice song and guitar playin

  • Blues,it makes cry

  • this tune brings a little tiny tear to the corner of my eye. i love this song, it moves me, and that's what music is all about for me !!! heavy or melancholy, if it gets a reaction at a gut level, it's a winner. love ya Stevie !!!

  • i dedicate this to my daughter's father who lived his life by the drop.....

  • Dat voice.

  • Autotuning can't give you as much soul as Stevie had.

  • @slayermanbob Autotuning gives you no soul.

  • New favourite song

  • You are my Hero Stevie!

  • great music, great man singing it.

  • gotta love stevie ray vaughn

  • wish i would have gotten a chance to see him in concert but i still get to listen to what he has left behind for us

  • Five people had such a huge eargasm that they missed the "thumbs up" button.

  • I understand that his friend wrote it about Stevie when Stevie was drinking heavy and thought it would kill him "life by the drop" The friend were reunited when Stevie recorded it. Ironic and very sad. SRV rules

  • Heard srv's friend wrote this for him. When his friend died and he came across this song, he recorded it as sort of a tribute.

  • @jangles920 This was actually written by Doyal Bramhall who is still alive. I'm not sure of Doyals inspriration for the song.

  • Actually I think it is a song about addiction. SVR had his demons, I think he's singing about overcoming addictions. Life by the Drop

  • i love this song, i am learning to play it myself, can anyone explain to me the meaning of this song? RIP Stevie Ray Vaughan

  • @ppppdmt There are many perceptions to this song ; i think what he was talking about how some friends leave each other in life and don't speak anymore.

  • @jefftheassassin thank you

  • Awesome pefrormance! wish he were still with us in more than his powerful music.

  • was this song written before "I'll Be THere" by Jackson 5? Very similar vocal melodies

  • @DJControllerC You obviously have no clue about the history of SRV. Look at the dates of his career vs. the Jackson 5.

  • @blisster22 that might explain why I asked the question- see how that works? Do you not hear the resemblance in melodies? Im not saying who copied who- but someone borrowed from someone here i would say

  • Thank you Stevie for sharing your gift of not only your extraordinary guitar playing but your beautiful lyrics as well. Long live SRV

  • could listen to this song, on repeat, forever.

  • Thank you stevie ray. You cheer me up like nothing else. Dont thumb up my comment

  • @sanctuary1221 i hear ya its personal

  • Gosh I love this song, it's amazing how hearing a song can transport you to specific time or place. Me the summer of 93, with my boyfriend driving down a country road...

  • My very good friend used to sing that song.It means a lot to me. I miss him very much.

  • I really do not care how many people like or dislike a song. But, it is definitely unintelligible that someone could dislike this song.

  • Drunkcast ftw

  • You know im 15 and i listen to metal, heavy metal, gore metal, black metal etc.. but i still love SRV hes a great artist i just wish i could have seen him live or met him once this is music that will last throughout the ages and he will continue to be loved by lots of people. i just hope hes having a great time where he is now RIP Stevie we will all miss you

  • Hello there, my old friend, we start it over again. I wanna be talking 'bout good things.

Hej! We're free! Our shoes are worn out, for sure, but we are still free. We're free to not live our lives by the drop. Yes, we are.

God, it's good to be here walking together, my friend. Mind's stopped aching!

    Hear it?

  • 3 people have absolutely ZERO taste in music.

  • Heaven has one too many angels because of the loss of this amazing musician. may he live forever in Song. I miss you SRV

  • Thank you for your response SuperGertK; may God Bless You!

  • @tattooninja if it means stevie lives on, than yes!

  • @TheFreakingBeatles

    fair enough!

  • The wonderful thing about this song is the simplicity that Stevie showed. Its just a simple accoustic blues riff and pure emotion. Stevie didn't always need a blazing electric guitar to pull us in. He was great on so many levels................

  • amo esta cancion!!!

Poor thing had no idea what hit it :(

  • brilliant man,so sad hes not here today...

  • Although he didn't compose the song, he sure owns it.

  • imagine if stevei and jimi (hendrix) made a song together!?

  • @That1nerdkid1 If Hendrix and SRV had played together, it would have blown a hole in space-time and destroyed the universe as we know it. They can only play together in Heaven.

  • Livin our dreams woah you're on top.... My mind is achin lord it wont stop that's how it happens livin life by the drop.....

  • This is and always has been one of the deepest songs I've ever heard. Love it.

  • This song makes me choke up every time I hear it. Beautiful.

  • great !!! stevie...

  • this is a song about his friend that died drinking.Very serious shit,

  • @deb5561 About his friend? No, I think it's about his own drinking problem.

  • @thedrizzle09 This song is not about Vaughan's struggle with drug abuse, as many think, but actually about Vaughan's friendship with Doyle Bramhall from Bramhall's perspective. Bramhall wrote this song and played the acoustic on this track.

  • Talking "bout good things and singing the blues. Great ,great song!

  • I still remember where I was and what I was doing the day Stevie died, one of my only regrets in life is that I never got to see him play live RIP S.R.V. Thank You for the music and the memories!!!

  • I don't fucking understand why people wanna listen to Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus.. there is'nt no soul in that crap... Stevie Ray Vaughan put so much soul in his music, and that's how I know that he was an real artist.. R.I.P. SRV

  • @Mettal4 can you blame him?

there must be playing some good music in heaven!

Freddy mercury, jimi hendrix, stevie ray all playing together.

    Must be some good times.

  • @MrDeed19 Can't forgot John Bonham, Keith Moon and John Entwistle...

  • Thanks to Doyle for writting this song and allowing Stevie to do a version second to none! Words cannot explain the emotion n heart in this one!

    Love it!!!

  • ya makes you stop and listen

  • how could you not just drop everything and listen

  • @guitarist4everdude Your an Fucking idiot for even bringing their names up!!

  • Stevie sings so good in this song

  • RIP SRV YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

  • @minorfx i agree with every statement of yours that i have read. its a shame that we have lost so many great people do to freak accidents, but as long as we tell their stories they will never be forgotten, but they all shall be truely missed, Keep Rockin the fuck out and dont let theses arrogant assholes ruin something great

  • @minorfx IN FCKN DEED!

  • The only thing wrong with his song is that is was too short......just like this singers life.

  • i often click the dislike button by mistake, i didnt here, but i assume those other two people did

  • @minorfx Your remarks were stupid because you blame a machine for the loss of SRV. A machine built by man for man's benefit. It was human error. It's like blaming winter weather for the loss of Buddy Holley & RicheyV?? WTF!!?? When you get a clue..use it and don't try to justify your stupid comment, just realize you're an idiot and move on!

  • I Love this fucking song, Stop arguing about the stupid fucked up world, Go into our own worlds... Enjoy the music.

  • this song is about his life long struggle with alcoholism. he'd finally gotten sober and we lost him soon after.

  • @minorfx You sir..are an idiot!

  • This is played on a 12-string? :o

  • @LostandRecovered i no yer comment is over a month old but it sounds exactly like a 12 string to me

  • @ryandevison im pretty sure it was his guild 12-string...

  • this song must be about acid

  • @tjt dont think so bro.

  • @tjt Why the fuck does everyone think this song is about LSD?! Listen to the lyrics- it ain't hard to figure out its about something way different.

  • @tjt its about 2 old friends , dont asociate good music with drugs plz

  • @esbramakopf What? This is about his alcoholism addiction. "Life by the drop". Figure it out. It's about his struggle to overcome it. "My mind is achin', Lord it won't stop." "My mind stopped achin'". All about his stuggles.

  • @Dorelaxen wow yea sorry you're right man

  • @ andrea

Daaammn... That gave me goosebumps... Deep and totally true, to bad tho once he finally got healthy and stopped doin all the bad stuff he had to leave earth early... How awesome would that be??? Goin to an srv concert. I was born on the day he died :( so I feel like I owe it to him to be an awesome guitar player... Been playing for 6 years.

  • Where have the years gone, Stevie? I've gotten older, but you stay the same. Thanks for walking this earth for a while and letting us walk with you, man.

  • @penguinsscareme if stevie had a youtube account i'm sure he'd be touched.

  • We miss you, brother..

  • hard to believe its been 20 years today....

  • I will never forget where Iwas when he died. 20 years. Wow. Bless this soul!

  • Can't believe he's been gone 20 years today. We miss you, Stevie.

  • @xoto90 pick the dam guitar up and go do shows! lol

  • @arafat24 I'm learning the bass :P

  • @xoto90 ive been learning the guitar for 6 years and in 2 more years i have to audition for berklee hopefully i will make it and this was one of the first full songs i learned from my teacher and it was one that still stuck with me

  • @arafat24 six not bad at all...

  • Stevie died on the same day of the year that his dad did. It was a crazy accident and clapton should have been with him. how crazy would that have been. I remember the day well hust like when Randy Rhoads died and Cliff Burton. WTF! ALL WILL TRUELY BE MISSED.

  • @sonjahardin2005

I was fortunate enough to meet SRV. I was always a fan and he was a true gentleman. Living life by the drop ... : -(

  • @sonjahardin2005 Actually, I'm pretty sure Clapton gave SRV his seat. Clapton was supposed to be there INSTEAD of Stevie, not with him. And Clapton is great, but he's done nothing worth listening to in a long time, and I personally think SRV's best work was yet to come. But oh well.

  • @SDMFdeeger he's been dead for 20 years dumbass.

  • @Mr51893 I said WAS best to come, not IS best to come. Learn to read - you're the dumbass.

  • We love you Stevie. Rest In Peace.

  • Man, love this song. Just ain't long enough.

  • srv always.

  • lifes to short..bourbon and crossroads...srv for ever..peace in the soul

  • @eliotross Exactly... music is for everyone to enjoy!! I wish more people understood that

  • I've always really loved this song, because it's intense and so beautiful. I'm just curious... what is this song about exactly? Is there a story behind it? Just wondering. Thanks, whoever shared this.

  • @SaratheSlytherin Well, life by the drop; get it? Living with drinking. Stevie did enjoy a good whiskey. He had a problem (as if we all don't) and eventually got sober. Actually, not a few months after he got sober, he died in that horrible crash. This was the last song on the last album he recorded. It's a tearjerker for sure.

  • His death, some 20 years on, still bothers me. It shouldn't have happened that way. Not him. Not like that. He cut through the crap and gave you the real thing in an era that favored fluff and hair bands. He stood out in front of them all. He was blues, rock, soul, and above all......himself.

  • @cromly : He was gifted and found his talent through rough times. He elevated with his music so high that made the devil envy enough to sent his daemons to haunt him. What happened then? He fought hard and HE WON!

Believe it or not, he moved to a higher level, his mission was somewhat divine. He conquered death.

He had to go that way. He didn't die, he flew on!

  • @cromly Very well said!

  • @cromly You should write poetry my friend.
