@kev0475 i used your video to root my Droid2 a long time ago, and now theres an update for my D2, is there a way to get it w/out unrooting or do i need to do that. And if i have to unroot how do i do that? thanks

Hey I'm trying it with my droid 2 and I have everything installed and when I run doroot.bat it always gets stuck on something different every time. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance.
can someone help me out on this? My computer won't detect my phone (droid2) in pc mode. it did at first, but now it just doesn't. i have to change over to usb storage for it to be detected, but if i switch over my computer acts like there isn't a device connected..
@cornflaked Which phone do you have? and which Android version? Keep in mind that if you have a Droid X or are on Gingerbread, this method won't work.
@kev0475 lol that explains why none of the tutorials work. I have a Droid 2 and I am on Gingerbread. Could you point me in the right direction on what to do next if I want to root?
i'm not hating but i can't get this damned thing to work i turn my phone over to PC Mode and Debugging enabled and i run that DoRoot.bat file like you say to but nothing ever happens. it just sits at this line
@kev0475 that is what i ended up doing thanks Z4Root worked fine... hey you get gingerbread for your droid yet? i've seen rumors its out there and was wondering if it was worth getting
@ld0ne I haven't yet. I know there are a few ROM builds for the Droid 2 that I hear is pretty good. I'd probably go with Liberty GB. I think there is CM7 support also. As for the Droid X, I think there is an official GB release for that now.
@jonesaaron88 Hmmm. I just tried downloading and it seems to work. I know that some sites flag my site as having malware. You might have to either do it from another computer/ISP or maybe give a try to Z4Root. Click my name and look for the older Z4Root video.
@TheGhost1777 Hmmmm. I'll check into it. Other thing is if you are running an Anti-Virus, or behind a firewall, my site might be blocked because the file is flagged as a false-positive.
@kev0475 I am also having trouble with the Doroot download. When I try to extract it it says the archive is either in an unknown format or damaged. :(
@Firstfalconfree Weird. I was able to download it just fine. Try again on a different computer and see if that works. Else... you can always check out my Z4Root video. Look at the older one.
@batosierogute It's a false-positive. This has been brought up a bunch of times already in the comments as well as online on XDA Developers. Rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin is an exploit in Android 2.2 that allows you to obtain root. It is a virus. Without it, you won't be able to access the system files and install superuser/su/etc. Google rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin and virus and it'll bring up plenty. You can also check out my older Z4Root video. Still uses rage, but it is in an app form.
@lspannify Try closing it then running it again. Make sure you extract everything from the .zip file. If all else fails, look at my older Z4Root video and do that method.
how did you get wireless teather on your phone, when I try to get it from the market after root it says that this is not available for my carrier (verizon) where the droid 2 is exclusively available. This was 80% why I wanted to root. I found barnacle wifi teather but i dont know if it is as good.
@nejigentlefist42 I think you should use whatever works. The hack I sued on my phone, it doesn't seem to work too well anymore. Service is intermittent.
i have to send my phone in tomorrow on warranty, and can't unroot it! the dounroot file won't run. it says it can't find rageinthecage apk and then says "error 26: failed to set permissions for exploit"
@MrInfamous405 Yeah. The anti-virus flags rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin as a Trojan. It's a false positive. If you are unsure, you can google rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin and virus on google. There are a few references that it is a false positive. You can also try Z4Root also. That also uses rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin. Rage exploits a hole in Android 2.2. That is what allows you to get root. That is why the anti-virus is flagging rage as malware.
Good job with the Trojan man. No one download this anymore, its a critically High Trojan Program Exploit. All thanks to Kaspersky Anti-Virus system that showed me the Trojan before i downloaded.
@REIDandDAVISlolsss Hahahahahaha. I've gone through this already. In order to install superuser on your Droid 2, you run an exploit (rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin) on your Droid 2. What this does is exploits a hole in Froyo, allow you access to the system files to get root. Look at any forum related to root and Droid 2 or Droid X, and you'll get the same info. Now don't you feel like a dumbass?!
@kev0475 Actually I dont feel like a dumbass because, your just causing problems for more poeple... people can do this from their phone with an app and not have to worry about using their computer.. this is a Trojan btw to...
@REIDandDAVISlolsss Whatever dude. Go do your research first. XDA Developers. Droid 2 Android Development. Easier 1-2-3 Root. You can't miss it. It's stickied. Oh wait... Z4Root used rageagainstthecage also.
okay i downloaded an app called baracle wifi tether (i think) and it asks for superuser permission.. and i said allow.. and it seemed to work. does this mean im succesfully rooted now???
DOWNLOADED BUT IT APPEARS TO BE MISSING A FILE? THE RISEAGAINSTTHECAGE OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT... keeps failing for me with no errors. I believe it is due to this file being missing.
@zZEevoHD Did you fully extract the folder out of the zip, then run it? Usually that's the error you get when adb isn't recognize. You could try redownloading again.
@zZEevoHD You don't install anything. All you would do is drag and drop everything inside the zip file and onto your desktop. Then run the extracted file/script.
when i get to the terminal and try to root the my droid 2 it says that the abd thingy cant be read ect then i wait and it eventually says that it had been rooted. then i go to the boot strap recovery app and it wont let me do it.
i am so lost like i got the do root file and i cant get the other and i like clicked the mototrolla usb thing i downloaded it and i didnt get a file i need like help on how to get the other file if it helps im using a windows vista
@pacotacos1234 Alrighty. You are half way there. What you need to do is download the Motorola drivers for your phone. W/O them, your computer won't be able to detect your phone. I'd just google Motorola Droid 2 drivers.
@gjenson223 "hacker alert the file download is trojan loaded -fuck this guy" rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin is an exploit. Without the exploit, you won't be able to put superuser and the associating files on to your phone. That is what is being flagged. You people need to stop cussing at me. Z4Root uses the same method, but in an app format. Go do your research next time before you start cussing at me. And by the way, this was already brought up by another comment.
I have downloaded everything you asked me to and extracted files. I am using windows 7. my fone will connect and most times come up right after i run doroot, bat. but after reconnect it almost never reconects and if it does it says rooot failed.... i have done this more than 200 times d2 global 2.2 froyo. please help
@collinbpeep D2G isn't supported anymore. Click my name and look at the older Z4Root video. The new DX and D2G firmware doesn't like this version of doroot.
@Silkoun30 Might be a bad root. Try rerooting. When you open superuser for the first time, you'll get a black screen. That is because you haven't give superuser access to anything.
MY PHONE IS NOW BROKEN AND WONT EVEN BOOT UP YOU ARE THE BIGGEST ASS HOLE IN THE WORLD GO TO FUCKING HELL YOU BURN BITCH I HATE YOU IM GONNA KILL YOU AND FIND YOUR ASS AND MURDER YOUR CHILDREN
@MercifiesProductions I am not a bitch. I am a male. So... you probably mean bastard. And I don't have any children, but if you want to murder someone, I might be able to get an address for an ex or something.
Going to buy a D2 in a few days. Will this rooting method work if it's on a newer version of Android (Froyo 2.2)? Will it also work on older versions such as 2.1/2.0?
Sorry man, my friend and I were rooting our phone and doing research he downloaded the .apk file and posted the original comment which I tried removing and then posting the second comment. My sincerest apologies for his quick reaction and thank you very much for informing me. Before you commented I went and researched as well, thanks again for your time.
Question: I'm a little confused Microsoft Security essentials is telling me that when I scan it it picks up an exploit program. Is this essential to the program? How does it work? I'd feel more comfortable with this knowledge, thanks.
@PassingPumpkins "Yo, you're a jackass. Attaching an exploit virus to the DORoot link? Not happening. Why do people have to be jerks?"
So... you call me a jackass and expect me to help you?
rageagainstthecage-arm5 is an exploit in Froyo that allows you to get root. Without it, you are not able to do so. There are other variations of the exploit that will do similar things, but at the end of it all... it is an exploit. Look at any forum/documentation, and people will confirm.
@PassingPumpkins Exploit is called rageagainstthecage. It is essential. I didn't write the exploit. Do some research before you call me a jackass next time. If you haven't looked, there are gazillion comments. Even the Z4Root app uses rageagainstthecage.
Kevin - It looks great, but I'm having a problem with the .zip file. Everytime I download it and then try to open it, I get an error that the file is either empty or corrupted. I've tried on two different computers with Window zip wizard and with Pea Zip. Any ideas?
@kev0475 It turns out that it was my computer's security software. It was "cleaning" out the .zip file and I didn't realize it. (I was using my work laptop and couldn't turn off the software.) I used my personal laptop with the security software turned off, and it worked like a charm. I'm rooted now!!! Thanks.
@DeViOuSdB1 Yeah. You can use this script to unroot. There is a script called dounroot inside the same folder. Double-click and run. Not sure if you can unroot your Bolt with this though.
@kev0475 Lol. Nah, it would brick my Bolt, Im thinking about rooting my moms D2 because she HATES motoblur and wants to get rid of some of the bloat crap on there. haha. Thanks for the response though man. Great vid!
I hate all these flash based videos. They won't work on my 64bit browsers. I share Steve Jobs dislike for adobe in general. Arrogant bastids don't even try to keep up.
Great video but I have one questions. Your video says to download the DoRoot and Moto Drivers but makes no mention of downloading Android SDK as seen on this nice step by step I found online.
@Eimhin1 It's actually already included in the package. adb.exe is already in the zip file. Originally, you had to download and update adb.exe prior to rooting, but someone found a way around it, which was just including the adb.exe file.
@pacotacos1234 Root gives you administrative privileges. It essentially allows you to do things beyond what you can do now, like edit system files and what not.
@JeffreyStevenDodd Anti-virus programs will flag this program as having a virus. The reason it does that is because the heart of the program (rageagainstthecage) is an exploit that runs on your phone to allow you obtain root. If you don't feel comfortable doing this method, consider clicking my name and seeing my older "Z4Root" video.
i actually tried this and it worked i had some problems at first but for some reason my phone turned off in the middle of the proses but wen i turned back on every thing was fine and it worked.
@InfernoRed08 Are you rooting a Droid 2G or Droid X? If so, you need to click my name and try the Z4Root method. Look at the older one. If you are on a Droid 2, try running the script multiple times, or try the Z4Root method.
P.S. Telling me it doesn't work doesn't help me help you solve your problems. Please be more descriptive about the errors you are encountering.
I`m getting a droid x in the next couple of days when I get my tax return check. Going to need help with rooting the phone. Can you walk me through it?
@chevytruck721 Can't really walk you through it, but you could just watch the video and it'll work. All of it is done in real time Unfortunately, this process doesn't work for the Droid X, but if you click my name, and look at the older Z4Root video, you'll be set!
@briantw002 Kind of like jailbreak. You are getting administrative privileges. This will enable you to install more apps, and tinker with system files on your phone.
well my battery is heating up during the nth try and for some reason the battery usage is being wasted on Bluetooth ... which is disengaged

I am using windows 7. my fone will connect and most times come up right after i run doroot, bat. but after reconnect it almost never reconects and if it does it says rooot failed.... i have done this more than 200 times d2 global 2.2 froyo. please help
collinbpeep 9 months ago
@collinbpeep D2G isn't supported anymore. Click my name and look at the older Z4Root video. The new DX and D2G firmware doesn't like this version of doroot.
kev0475 9 months ago
Superuser doesn't want to open, so I could use some help with that
Silkoun30 9 months ago
@Silkoun30 Might be a bad root. Try rerooting. When you open superuser for the first time, you'll get a black screen. That is because you haven't give superuser access to anything.

Going to buy a D2 in a few days. Will this rooting method work if it's on a newer version of Android (Froyo 2.2)? Will it also work on older versions such as 2.1/2.0?
Geirunaka 9 months ago
@Geirunaka It should work on Froyo. As for 2.0 and 2.1, the Droid 2 came stock with 2.2.

PassingPumpkins 9 months ago
@PassingPumpkins "Yo, you're a jackass. Attaching an exploit virus to the DORoot link? Not happening. Why do people have to be jerks?"
So... you call me a jackass and expect me to help you?
rageagainstthecage-arm5 is an exploit in Froyo that allows you to get root. Without it, you are not able to do so. There are other variations of the exploit that will do similar things, but at the end of it all... it is an exploit. Look at any forum/documentation, and people will confirm.
kev0475 9 months ago
@PassingPumpkins Exploit is called rageagainstthecage. It is essential. I didn't write the exploit. Do some research before you call me a jackass next time. If you haven't looked, there are gazillion comments. Even the Z4Root app uses rageagainstthecage.

Kevin - It looks great, but I'm having a problem with the .zip file. Everytime I download it and then try to open it, I get an error that the file is either empty or corrupted. I've tried on two different computers with Window zip wizard and with Pea Zip. Any ideas?
dtrisler1 9 months ago
@dtrisler1 Darn. Give it a try again. Or click my name and look at my older Z4Root video. Yeah...
kev0475 9 months ago
@kev0475 It turns out that it was my computer's security software. It was "cleaning" out the .zip file and I didn't realize it. (I was using my work laptop and couldn't turn off the software.) I used my personal laptop with the security software turned off, and it worked like a charm. I'm rooted now!!! Thanks.

DIESELDROID01 10 months ago
Wow...this is even easier than rooting my Bolt...haha. Great vid. Its possible to UNROOT with this method correct?
DeViOuSdB1 10 months ago
@DeViOuSdB1 Yeah. You can use this script to unroot. There is a script called dounroot inside the same folder. Double-click and run. Not sure if you can unroot your Bolt with this though.
kev0475 10 months ago
@kev0475 Lol. Nah, it would brick my Bolt, Im thinking about rooting my moms D2 because she HATES motoblur and wants to get rid of some of the bloat crap on there. haha. Thanks for the response though man. Great vid!
DeViOuSdB1 10 months ago
@kev0475 The reason I was asking about unrooting though is incase she had to do any insurance claims. :)
DeViOuSdB1 10 months ago
@DeViOuSdB1 SBF'ing would be a better way to go in my opinion. Might as well put it back to stock-stock.

I hate all these flash based videos. They won't work on my 64bit browsers. I share Steve Jobs dislike for adobe in general. Arrogant bastids don't even try to keep up.
grnchm 10 months ago
@grnchm O.o Im running Win7 Ultimate 64 bit and it runs perfect for me...Perhaps this is user error?
DeViOuSdB1 10 months ago
Great video but I have one questions. Your video says to download the DoRoot and Moto Drivers but makes no mention of downloading Android SDK as seen on this nice step by step I found online.
Eimhin1 10 months ago
@Eimhin1 It's actually already included in the package. adb.exe is already in the zip file. Originally, you had to download and update adb.exe prior to rooting, but someone found a way around it, which was just including the adb.exe file.

pacotacos1234 10 months ago
@pacotacos1234 Dunno. I don't have an iPhone.
kev0475 10 months ago
@kev0475 i mean the root what you did what does it do to the phone
pacotacos1234 10 months ago
@pacotacos1234 Root gives you administrative privileges. It essentially allows you to do things beyond what you can do now, like edit system files and what not.

i downloaded this and it said there's a trojan ....
JeffreyStevenDodd 10 months ago
@JeffreyStevenDodd Anti-virus programs will flag this program as having a virus. The reason it does that is because the heart of the program (rageagainstthecage) is an exploit that runs on your phone to allow you obtain root. If you don't feel comfortable doing this method, consider clicking my name and seeing my older "Z4Root" video.
kev0475 10 months ago
@kev0475 oh alright, yeah i did the Z4Root and it worked fine :) , thanks for clearing up the virus thing though
JeffreyStevenDodd 10 months ago
i actually tried this and it worked i had some problems at first but for some reason my phone turned off in the middle of the proses but wen i turned back on every thing was fine and it worked.

InfernoRed08 10 months ago
@InfernoRed08 Are you rooting a Droid 2G or Droid X? If so, you need to click my name and try the Z4Root method. Look at the older one. If you are on a Droid 2, try running the script multiple times, or try the Z4Root method.
P.S. Telling me it doesn't work doesn't help me help you solve your problems. Please be more descriptive about the errors you are encountering.
kev0475 10 months ago
I`m getting a droid x in the next couple of days when I get my tax return check. Going to need help with rooting the phone. Can you walk me through it?
chevytruck721 10 months ago
@chevytruck721 Can't really walk you through it, but you could just watch the video and it'll work. All of it is done in real time Unfortunately, this process doesn't work for the Droid X, but if you click my name, and look at the older Z4Root video, you'll be set!
kev0475 10 months ago
what are the pros of doing this? is it like a jailbreak
briantw002 10 months ago
@briantw002 Kind of like jailbreak. You are getting administrative privileges. This will enable you to install more apps, and tinker with system files on your phone.
