Hey, I was just wondering what's the difference between the flood coat and the gloss coat and what it does? ...and what you use for each coat? I'm really interested in making my own board and your videos are helping loads, Thanks.
@samcookie369 flood coat is the coat of resin that you laydown with a brush after the intial glass layup is dry. The Flood coat fills in all the rough areas of the fiberglass weave. Some people stop at the flood coat and go and ride their boards. The gloss coat comes after the flood coat has hardened. This is to give the boards its final smooth glossy finish. Put this on a little thinner and hotter. I have a way in which I warm up the resin so it flows out thin. but you must work fast
What part do you want to know about the flood coat. Please be more specific. for the resin i use the same epoxy as the same for the glass.
Also - The drops are F-Additive for Resin Research. This helps with the final buffing and fish eyes in the resin. do a google search for Resin Research F-Additive.
Hi Thanks for posting your instructions. We were wanting to make a pressure cooker vacuum chamber and we were wondering what kind of vacuum pump you have there.
hey , how do you do the flood coat ? and did you put another sheet of fiberglass cloth upon doing this part ? cause i'm trying to figure out if i'm gonna buy one or make one . but i really wanna make one , it feels different if you did it your own .
@itwasnotjulian the flood coat is over the glass and resin after it has dried. you do the flood coat to fill in the weave of the glass. after the initial 2 layers of glass you don' t need anymore glass, just epoxy.
i sell a hand written guide for $25 bucks. let me know if you are interested.
@mrpandaowns - if you want to minimize the amount of air bubbles in the resin it would help. But, i made my first couple of boards without degassing because i did not have a vacuum pump. I still ride them and they are fine. It's just that if you have minute air bubbles in the resin you can see them in the final board. but if you are just making a board for yourself then it doesn't matter. But the bubbles don't look good on a retail board.
great vid, check out my custom art 4 sport boards, natskiman.

We were also wondering about sanding and buffing, because the tape left a ridge on the edges of the board.

Didn't see a video on sanding and buffing, but I was wondering what grits of sandpaper you start with and work up to?
