This is hard. Like, I love Rose, and Bad Wolf Bay is heart wrenching.. Donna on the other hand, well at first sight I didn't like her at all. When he asked her to come aboard on the Tardis after the Runaway Bride episode, I was like: "No, I don't want her as companion!" But when she came back after Martha, I adored her! The Adipose episode was great, and over all Donna was one bad-ass companion. But let's not forget Rory! I mean, he died, woke up, died, woke up, died woke up. He is awesome.
Donna, without a doubt. Even more than friends, they're like brother and sister. And she's just friggin' awesome. I think Donna's story is so sad! I would argue that her time with the doctor makes her such a better person; she gets a new perspective on life, her priorities change and she decides to care about much more important things. I also think this is super sad for the Grandfather who was able to see what she had grown into and she can never be that again and he cant tell her.
I may be the only one, but Martha is my favorite. Rose will always be special because she was the first. But Martha is so smart. Donna Noble was my least favorite companion... She was annoying, not very smart, and arrogant. I believe that for me it's Amy or no-one. I mean not only do the actors work well together, but Amy has known of the doctor for all her life, he's her imaginary friend and has had the universe pored into her brain... Besides Rory also rocks a lot more than Donna, sorry.
You were completely right, I adore her now. The "end" of her was so emotionally draining though! For me, however, Rose still remains my favorite companion- but Donna is soooo close.
I like Amy and Rory together as companions. They're funny together plus Amy can kick butt and take names like nobody's business and Rory is adorable. ^_^ Donna comes right behind them, though! Love Donna. And I will admit that it's definitely refreshing to have a companion that doesn't try to get any kind romantic response out of The Doctor.
Martha is my favorite companion. For me, there was no other companion who was expected to do more and had to live up to a standard than Martha. People are so hard on her because she fell in love with the Doctor, but I'm sorry, I can't really blame her. Martha had to single handedly save the world on so many accounts, namely human nature/family of blood and the season 3 finale. And then she didn't get credit for it. I love all of the companions, I just think Martha rose to every challenge set.
Rose and Donna are so close for me. I would put more stuff about why I love both but I just woke up and my head isn't working. I will say that While Rose is first, Donna is an EXTREMELY Close second.

I think Donna's story is a little more tragic because she can't remember all the stuff that happened to her! She really grew as a person over her series and then she had to go back to basically just being the person she was before. At least Rose got to get it on with "the Doctor" (still not quite sold on Doctors 1 + 2 being the SAME person, but close enough...). I do think that the Season 2 finale was definitely sadder than Season 4's finale (which was still totally tragic), though.
@belleglass Also, Rose totally got more badass whilst she was away from the Doctor. Obviously it's awful that they got separated, but at least she didn't lose all her experiences and new-found badassness from her time with Nine & Ten. I mean, she's freaking practically running the alternate-universe Torchwood! That is impressive.

I watched the seasons out of order, and Martha was the first companion I saw, so I didn't really like Rose. I thought Donna's ending was far more sad. At least Rose got to keep the memories. Donna had to go back to the life she was unhappy with and not know how she had grown, and not know the great friendship she had. Donna is my favorite for the reasons you listed, and because the dialogue between her and the Doctor was consistently entertaining.
I thought that Donna's ending was more heart-wrenching for me, because she doesn't even get to live with the experience. She grew so much as a person throughout the season and to lose all of that. I was definitely sobbing when it happened. At least Rose still had her memories (and then, you know, the "other" doctor).

Donna is a VERY close second. I think perhaps the only reason she isn't at the top is that I'm head over heels for Matt Smith's Doctor and that colors the companions a little. I think Donna is smarter than she lets on and I love her attitude. The friendship they have is great and season 4 finale is my fav.

The Doctor has been in her life for years, and I think that makes their relationship very unique--Amy feels like she really knows the Doctor, since he's been in her life for so long, and that makes her less in awe of him than the others. Also, she is really brave and pretty much a bamf whenever she's in danger, with her Donna-esque way of telling people off. She also is good with relating to people, even though she has a bit of an attitude...
(Con't) I think Donna's ending might even be a tiny bit more tragic than Rose's (I can hear the cries of the angry mob already), because she forgot everything she saw with the Doctor, all the things they did, all the people she helped. She forgot how the Doctor showed her how special she was. For Donna, none of the wonderful S4 moments that we cherish happened at all. It's like the expression "'It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all"-Rose has memories, Donna doesn't.

Plus, Martha was brave enough to save the world almost single-handedly and then she was strong enough to reject more traveling with the Doctor. That takes willpower.

Rose is amazing. She brought out the best in both the 9th and 10th Doctor. It's deff a tie between Rose and Donna. The first episode of Doctor Who I ever watched was Stolen Earth and so I instantly liked Donna. And this blonde girl starts running towards the Doctor and I was like WTF?! And thennn I watched the rest of the series and fell in love with Rose. So it's a tie for me. Catherine Tate was so amazing in Doctor Who!
I love Donna, i used to like Rose the best but as of like six months ago i kinda like Donna more. I don't hat Martha like a lot of people and Amy is alright. I also really like Rory hahaha (but is he counted as a companion?)
The first episode that Donna appeared in, the Christmas special, I absolutely hated her. But then when she came back as a full time companion I loved her. Also, now I'm even more excited for going to ConTour in NYC.
I LOVE donna. She is hilarious and brings a lot of heart to the show. She sees things from a human and ethical (what's right and fair) standpoint. and YES the Doctor and Donna have this friendship chemistry that cannot be beat.

Honestly I would say that hands down Donna's story is the MOST tragic storyline. Her song is even called "The rueful fate of Donna Noble!" It breaks my heart more then Rose ever could (and I REALLY love Rose) because at the very least Rose had a happy ending that wasn't marred by her loosing everything she gained in knowing the Doctor.
Donna is definitely my favorite female companion. She's just so awesome and such a BAMF and I just love her. However, I think Rory is my favorite overall. I do love me some Rory Williams-Pond.
I like all the companions in their own right (except I'm not a huge fan of Amy...she's okay but she just seems like the writers tried to smash Rose, Martha, and Donna into one person)

I'm not sure if she "counts" yet, but River's definitely my favorite companion so far, with Donna admittedly as a close second and Amy third. Donna and River are both really brilliant (in their own ways) and aren't afraid to stick up to and be a force of opposition to the Doctor when he lets his weaknesses get the better of him (like being seduced by power even for good reasons, letting his "fury" reign, etc). They both see beyond this front of wonder and mystery and interact w/ him as a person
DONNA NOBLE! She's my favorite companion, too. She's just... brilliant. She brings a lot of control for the Doctor. Such as that one episode with the creature on her back, since she turned left she wasn't there to stop the Doctor from just standing there and dying.

Yay you're back! I completely agree with everything you said in this video. Rose was my number 1 favorite and then Martha just annoyed me to no end and then... DONNA!! Ah! Love Donna. I think her ending may be more tragic than Rose's. Rose knew the Doctor, lost him, but could still remember him and have those memories, while Donna knew the Doctor, was better and happier with the Doctor, and has had all that taken away with no way of remembering it or tapping into the person she could be. :(

Martha is my favorite companion. For me, there was no other companion who was expected to do more and had to live up to a standard than Martha. People are so hard on her because she fell in love with the Doctor, but I'm sorry, I can't really blame her. Martha had to single handedly save the world on so many accounts, namely human nature/family of blood and the season 3 finale. And then she didn't get credit for it. I love all of the companions, I just think Martha rose to every challenge set.

I think Donna's story is a little more tragic because she can't remember all the stuff that happened to her! She really grew as a person over her series and then she had to go back to basically just being the person she was before. At least Rose got to get it on with "the Doctor" (still not quite sold on Doctors 1 + 2 being the SAME person, but close enough...). I do think that the Season 2 finale was definitely sadder than Season 4's finale (which was still totally tragic), though.

Obviously it's awful that they got separated, but at least she didn't lose all her experiences and new-found badassness from her time with Nine & Ten. I mean, she's freaking practically running the alternate-universe Torchwood! That is impressive.

I watched the seasons out of order, and Martha was the first companion I saw, so I didn't really like Rose. I thought Donna's ending was far more sad. At least Rose got to keep the memories. Donna had to go back to the life she was unhappy with and not know how she had grown, and not know the great friendship she had. Donna is my favorite for the reasons you listed, and because the dialogue between her and the Doctor was consistently entertaining.

I thought that Donna's ending was more heart-wrenching for me, because she doesn't even get to live with the experience. She grew so much as a person throughout the season and to lose all of that. I was definitely sobbing when it happened. At least Rose still had her memories (and then, you know, the "other" doctor).

I suppose the dreamy Jack Harkness doesn't count as a companion? Then I pick Amy. There's just something about her guts that I really like. She jumps in and takes the risks and I love it.
Donna is a VERY close second. I think perhaps the only reason she isn't at the top is that I'm head over heels for Matt Smith's Doctor and that colors the companions a little. I think Donna is smarter than she lets on and I love her attitude. The friendship they have is great and season 4 finale is my fav.

The Doctor has been in her life for years, and I think that makes their relationship very unique--Amy feels like she really knows the Doctor, since he's been in her life for so long, and that makes her less in awe of him than the others. (Con't) I think Donna's ending might even be a tiny bit more tragic than Rose's (I can hear the cries of the angry mob already), because she forgot everything she saw with the Doctor, all the things they did, all the people she helped. She forgot how the Doctor showed her how special she was. For Donna, none of the wonderful S4 moments that we cherish happened at all. It's like the expression "'It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all"-Rose has memories, Donna doesn't.

(Con't) Fans tend to be hard on Martha, but I think she is incredibly intelligent, really nice to everyone, and a she is still a great friend to the Doctor, regardless of the "unrequited love." I think a lot of people hate her because of that but can you really blame her? The Doctor is amazing (and attracitve!), we all know that.
Plus, Martha was brave enough to save the world almost single-handedly and then she was strong enough to reject more traveling with the Doctor. That takes willpower.

Rose is amazing. She brought out the best in both the 9th and 10th Doctor. She has such a loving and caring heart, and even though is not the most intelligent, she has great intuition and can interact well with pretty much everyone they meet. And this blonde girl starts running towards the Doctor and I was like WTF?! And thennn I watched the rest of the series and fell in love with Rose. So it's a tie for me. Honestly I would say that hands down Donna's story is the MOST tragic storyline. Her song is even called "The rueful fate of Donna Noble!" It breaks my heart more then Rose ever could (and I REALLY love Rose) because at the very least Rose had a happy ending that wasn't marred by her loosing everything she gained in knowing the Doctor.

I like all the companions in their own right (except I'm not a huge fan of Amy...she's okay but she just seems like the writers tried to smash Rose, Martha, and Donna into one person)
but yeah, I don't know if I could pick a favorite. I do love Donna, especially for the reason you mentioned, how she never falls for the Doctor. I love that and it's so much more enjoyable to watch Doctor Who when the companion is not pining after the doctor. Plus Catherine Tate is genius and comedy gold.

I'm not sure if she "counts" yet, but River's definitely my favorite companion so far, with Donna admittedly as a close second and Amy third. Donna and River are both really brilliant (in their own ways) and aren't afraid to stick up to and be a force of opposition to the Doctor when he lets his weaknesses get the better of him (like being seduced by power even for good reasons, letting his "fury" reign, etc). They both see beyond this front of wonder and mystery and interact w/ him as a person

I think her ending may be more tragic than Rose's. Rose knew the Doctor, lost him, but could still remember him and have those memories, while Donna knew the Doctor, was better and happier with the Doctor, and has had all that taken away with no way of remembering it or tapping into the person she could be. :(

I'd argue that Donna isn't conventiionally intelligent but she's actually just so smart and the most wonderful thing about her adventures with the Doctor is that she realizes how intelligent she really is and the biggest tragedy of her story is that she is capable of so much and she doesn't know it anymore. I also loved the season four finale. :) I found the last couple episodes of season four so exciting.

It's interesting to see where people stand, people that I know who watched the series didn't seem to see doctor who the way I did. My closest friend shares my love for Rose Tyler but others describe her as "annoying" and it breaks my heart. However I can't deny my love for the other companions, and Donna Noble is just amazing. I will admit though, I have paused on Season 5 episode 3 because after three weeks I'm still traumatized by Season 4 finale...for Donna and Rose. :'(

I think Donna's story is more tragic. There 's that saying "its better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all." In a way Donna was to deal with both of these. She doesn't remember all the good times she had with the Doctor but she still feels sad/empty because somehow knows there is something missing. If that makes any sense.

Donna is amazing! She is hilarious, witty, out spoken, and all around a bamf.
To me, her story is more tragic than Rose's. Rose got keep her family-and later on, her own Doctor-, but Donna got nothing. She couldn't even keep the memories of the time she had with the Doctor.

I love Donna to pieces and actually she's my second favorite companion after Amy Pond (LOVE her) I have a thing for sassy redheads! By the way you are a sassy redhead and you remind a bit of Donna ; )

Rose, Martha, Donna, Amy, Rose. (Rose is my fave and least fave. I think Donna may be second, but I looove the Master season finale so that correlates with Martha just beating Donna for second.) Oh and see you at leakycon/contour!

hell yeah donna!!! i cried so hard after journey's end because of donna. i really like rory and captain jack harkness too, but donna is hands down the best of the main companions
