If I pick some random card. The odds of a second random card appearing after the first card is 1/13. The odds of it appearing before or after is 2/13. The first card appears 4 times in the deck so we have 4 chances at 2/13 odds for the second card to appear before or after the first card. So the odds of the two cards appearing together are 8/13 or 61.5%.
@Super53r610 yeah your actually watching a scam video so you can make a scam in the comments right post this to everyone again and they will be scamed!!
when I was practicing this trick by myself at first and I noticed that whatever the top and the bottom card was they are most likely to be next to each other in the deck. Thats my way it may not work for you but it worked for me.
I believe the odds are [2(4*4)50!]/52! but I don't have a calculator handy to see what that equals. 4*4 is the number of ways the 2 cards chosen can be paired. 2(4*4) because the cards can be in either order. 50! is the number of ways the remaining cards can be ordered. 52! is the number of ways all the cards can be ordered. Did I make a mistake? Counting is fun but not always easy :)
NO FRIKKEN WAY! I chose a Jack and a 3 as I walked over to a deck of cards and they were the FIRST CARDS! that was freaky. WTF! damn. no joke, try this shit!
hey do you reckon you could maybe make an intro to my card videos if you could that would be awsome just send me a yes or no reply and if it is a yes i will send you some video's to make an intro thx
If you're a good card magician, you could actually cull the two values the spectator mentions as you're going through the deck, that way if they aren't paired together somewhere in the deck, you can show that they've somehow magically paired at the top of the deck after a shuffle. That would save your butt and look really magical if you fail to find the initial pairing.
This answer isn't quite right. I believed you've counted some combinations more than once. I know because that's what I did on my first attempt, and got the same answer as you.
My second attempt was a little more sophisticated, and I got 46%. This surprised me because it was under 50%. So we ran a couple of independent simulations and got the true answer to be around 48.3%.
I'm a mathematician, so you can probably believe my maths. I intend to do a video response soon.
Yes, that is what I did at first, but multiplying by 16 means you count combinations like 4K4 twice.
There isn't simply four times as many ways to put the king of hearts next to a 4, as there were to put the king of hearts next to the 4 of spades. What about combinations containing 44, or 444, or 4444, or when 4 is the top/bottom card? You have to break it down into cases, I broke it down into 12 cases in the end, and that was still a bit rough which is why I didn't get the exact answer.
Try this one. We'll use the King Queen and Jack of diamonds and the King Queen and Jack of clubs. Just those six cards. If you agree, the probability of the King of diamonds being next to the Queen of diamonds is 1/3.
To multiply by 4 to get the probability of a KQ pair would be over 100%! I'll let you work out what the answer should be.
If anyone ever challenges you to the second trick, accept their challenge but make sure to pick two equal values, as this will give you a strong advantage.
well the first card trick was a failure - the person I was doing the card trick on picked the 7 of clubs. =( however, the second card trick worked!!! =)

@tubelarr Done your calculation:

Does the second trick have to be 2 different values, or can the player call say a queen and a queen? It would affect the answer to how likely it is.

say you were looking for the king of hearts next to the 4 of spades.
odds- 2/52 = 1/25
king of hearts next to a 4.
odds- 8/52
king next to a four.
odds- 32/52
32/52= 16/26
16/26=x/100
cross multiply, and i get about 62%
