Why are they taking digs at an actor that did so much for the greater good and was by far the realest person in Hollywood, stick to the Paris Hilton jokes
I always enjoyed watching family guy but this one really isn't funny like i know they always take shots at celebrities but at an amazing actor and his deceased brother? That is beyond messed up for real like i was pissed when i first saw this.

His closest friends; Joaquin, Keanu Reeves, Samantha Mathis, Johnny Depp (who actually owned the Viper Room at the time) never speak about this incident due to it's quite graphic tragedy. Alot of people saw River die and the phonecall - well there sure isin't much to laugh at.

This is really the only part of Family Guy I've ever really hated. I love Joaquin Phoenix and am too young to have cared about River in any capacity other than the fact that he was Joaquin's big brother who hurt him and his family and friends and fans terribly by overdosing. I don't think it's fair in any way to say that Joaquin is 'what we're left with.' Have you seen Walk the Line? Gladiator? I love him in The Village, too.
The way Richard Dreyfuss narrates "He died on the curb outside" is pretty powerful. Honestly what Family Guy is getting at is that River Phoenix would still be a big name today if he hadn't tragically cut his life so short.
I don't actually think that this is disrespecting River Phoenix's death at all. It's actually poking fun at Joaquin Phoenix's acting career.
In fact, it seems to imply the tragedy of River's death in claiming that he was supremely more talented than Joaquin, and it sucks what the world was left with.

I think there's a difference between making a joke like that and making a joke about religion. The difference being there is a certain sense of maliciousness to this.
They don't bring up the disgusting acts of violence or any details whatsoever. The holocaust is still not a laughing matter but the point is there is nothing nasty behind the joke. You can't say the same for this. I'm not claiming that a joke about River Phoenix is worse than a joke about the holocaust. To do that would be simply ignorant. HOWEVER, I am saying the delivery of this joke has a clear malignant undertone. That's why it crosses the line. You can't deny that.
