  • Imagine sleeping with Mike Patton...I'm pretty sure that whatever the hell he'd call out in bed would either shred your sanity or summon a great old one.

That said, quoting the Darkness will be high on my list of things to shout out in bed before I die.

  • @darkwartexx hahahah... fun summoning demons for a threesome

  • Normally I wouldn't find this trailer scary at all. However, the idea that a guy can SOUND like that with NO voice-altering effects, at home, in real life... is kinda creepy.

  • @vanishy0urself I know he doesn't need effects most of the time but what about "FUH-TURE" at 0:29?

  • @Dhakadice As far as I know, that's also pure. Maybe some reverb here and there just to make the recording sound natural (cause dry sounds terrible no matter who it is) but that's it. So as far as I've been told Mike Patton can basically replicate the entire thing in real life, with no effects whatsoever. Yes, that includes the "FUH-TURE" part.

  • @vanishy0urself It's pretty darn hard to tell but I DO know he uses eletronic effects sometimes.

There's thing he does that sounds like some sort of chopper or tremolo, which I'm not sure if it's done naturally or with effect. You can hear it right before the jazzy parts on "Carry Stress In The Jaw" by Mr Bungle and on some tracks from "Adult Themes For Voice" (I think "Inconsolable Widows In Search Of Distraction" was one).

Either way, it might be the same technique/effect as on "FUE-TURE".

  • That voice is so freaking terrifying... is it true he used NO voice-altering techniques? How the hell did he manage that?

  • @SergeantLuke

    He's a demon.

  • @chitoryu12 I meant the voice actor.

  • @SergeantLuke

That's who I was talking about.

  • @SergeantLuke

    It is indeed true.

Probably well practiced since one of his old albums was nothing but him abusing his vocal cords.

Mature themes for voice is a cd of nothing but Mike Patton sounding like he's putting off a trip to the doctor to deal with a bone thief infestation.

  • @SergeantLuke

    0:04 Whispered growl.

0:07 Speaking with growl basically, breathing inward on "FOR YOUUUU".

0:17 Reverb for sure, might be some kind of modulation/harmonics effect as well.

0:19 Overdubs (one low and one high voice)

0:21 Speaking with growl again, only with a higher pitch.

0:24 Screaming (kinda like high pitch growl but with more tone)

    0:26 Nasal whispering

0:28 Not sure, it sounds like a clean voice. Electronic pitch shift?

0:31 Scream with lots of reverb, both played backwards.

  • @SergeantLuke After that, there's various screams and growls you could see him do live without any effects. At 1:11, "WATCH THE SKIIIIIIES!", it's really just screaming with a lot of twang (that nasal thing he does with whispering at 0:26). Basically he's screaming through his nose/teeth.

You're VERY likely to hear him do that one in concert. =)

Check out some live clips with him performing pretty much anything (preferably Fantomas, Peeping Tom or Mr Bungle) to see him do these things in songs.

  • @Dhakadice OMG you expert! Bloody well done analysis, thank you! OK then, maybe he does use effects at some points... but they aren't big effects and what the fuck does he do with his voice is STILL worthy of a "holy shit that's awesome".

The most epic moment of his voice acting here IMO is not even any voice-warping tricks. It's the "Come embrace the darkness" at the end. The way that he says it... hell yes!

  • @vanishy0urself Thanks. I didn't mean to show off or anything (at least not MY skills) and as you said, his use of artificial effects is minimal (he does know how to use them however, like the reverb) and he also uses a lot of mic technique (like standing a bit away from it or covering his mouth with his hand or turning away from it).

That's what makes Mike so great. He never let effects do all the work, instead he uses them as little tools. Like a guitar player using only slight distortion. =)

  • yall know darkness cant die right? light doesnt kill him it only nullifies his powers as soon as night time comes regardless even if u kill him the darkness will reassemble his body and he`ll be as good as new! its y hes da shit!!!! before light there was and always will be... DARKNESS

  • I need to find their voice altering software....Mike Patton may be good but imagine what could be done with that template.

  • Scratch that, turns out that's just Mike Patton....well feck me with a loaf of bread....

  • the black hood guy reminds me of alex mercer :P

  • there was only one thing I kinda off didn't like in this game and that was that every time you used the darkness, you had to shoot every single light out and that made it difficult to see. Other than that I love this game and love the comics

  • Love this game, happy they're making a sequel.

  • @MichaelDj54 What there makin a sequel?

  • Holy shit this trailer is even more eerie considering my name is Jackie.

  • i love how he says "Future"

  • Amazing game, loved it all :-)

I want them to bring a film out

  • 1:18 onwards with that music and voicing is just the cherry on the cake

  • I wish I had those powers.

  • And the WWI era otherworld?

  • @wesleyfilms Yes and no.

Yes to everything you can do with the darkness powers (Comics and videogame.).

No because light light is damn near everywhere and the Darkness is pretty much the most sick and twisked f***ing dick ever.

I'd probably still say yes though.

  • LOVE IT!

  • I luf this game so muches. =)

  • Love this game!
