In the African Tradition we believe that when a person passes on, their soul/spirit stays around in this realm amonst friends and loved ones for 100 days (approx. 3 months) making their rounds bidding farewell. So whenever we feel our loved ones we should speak to them and say our peace. Tell them you miss and love them and goodbye for now.
