I was very disapointed with the MC303. I sold it a few weeks after buying it. Yes I recorded it with DOP (very old sequencer program) and Sequel. Actually I use Cubase.

I have the r3 as well. Nice piano sound. You made that with two oscillations only? Did you make two triangles ring together and maybe patch some distortion to envelope gen 2?

1. The R3 has no (digital) audio via USB. You have to conect its Audio outputs to an Analog Input of your PC (Line-In) or a USB Mixer's audio input.

2. Yes, it has more editable features and 8 voices (the mk has only 4) and full sized keys

3. The R3 is an virtual analog (VA) synth. It has no drum section, but you can create analog-drum and bass sounds like in my vid

Yes. The R3 has a tempo control (also to synchronize LFO, effects etc.) and you can specify also the notes/beat and gate time.

starting from an E-Piano preset and changing it until satisfied my taste if that is what you mean. My aim was to create an acoustic piano that still remains synthetic.

To the sound card. I had a RCA to 3,5mm cable and some selfmade RCA-6,3mm adapters which turns to be very handy to adapt different connections. Just in case you don't know: Oposed to what most of younger people think, the R3 doesn't outputs its audio thru the USB port.

It depends on how deep you want to go into sound programming. The R3 is a very good choice if you have additional sound sources like drums, romplers or a good DAW. The Radias has 3 time more voices and more capabilities but from the sound engine very similar. Even the MicroKorg XL is a good one if you can live with that keyboard. Maybe another good option is the Blofeld from Waldorf. The R3 and Blofeld would be about 400€ leaving you budget for some additional stuff.

the R3 is more "professional" than the XL, has more options and a full size KB. Even if the XL has an acoustic piano sample in it's PCM bank, both are synths and their pianos will allways be "synthetic" which in my case, is what I like!

If you want a VA-Synth, yes it is worth. I sold mine to get the Radias which has more voices (24) and features. There are also other brands with more voices but I can't tell. For me the most important aspect was the Vocoder which AFAIK is the best one in such a kind of synths. You also may take a look at your store if you can get a Radias for a little more, then it is recently discontinued and some stores are selling it out, if still on stock. 4 more info, look at korgforums(dot)com

As I said, for me it is the best vocoder in this kind of synths, there are stand alone vocoders that may be better (the analogue ones). It's just how you set it up and what carriers you use.

If you like vocoders and classic synths and sound programming: Yes. I made about 20 soundpatches in 4 months. I sold it last week.... to get his bigger brother, the Radias!
