  • The beautiful and talented Jennifer Hudson.

  • The fact that so many people have done this song, and sound so inferior to Whitney is a true testament to the exceptional gift that Whitney had.

  • c'est moche de respirer dans une phrase, surtout le I will always ........ love you

  • Why does she have on winter leather gloves on?

  • @iamlost2 Because she's the boss of herself and can do what she wants. Peanut gallery opinions don't matter.

  • @Tiny1bme lol, dumb answer. hahaa

  • They better do a tribute to Whitney tomorrow. And I want Jennifer to do it! :)

  • She's so skinnyyyyyyyyy :-)

  • she looks very good & I won't let the devil beat me out of everything so as the most high shall guie me with angels too you

  • ONLY CHARICE CAN DO JUSTICE TO THIS SONG!!!

  • And this version is toooooo slooooow! gracious!

  • Coked out and all, Nobody can sing this song like Ms. Whitney Houston, not even Jennifer and I love her to death...! Two completely different voices....both absolutely amazing singers and both very talented but.....well ya know!! I love them both and Mariah too....not to mention Dionne and Gladys!!

  • I LOVE JEN! IF U DNT LIKE THE VIDE THEN DNT WATCH WE KNOW THT WHITNEY SUNG IT BETTER BUT JEN IS THE VOICE OF THIS TIME AND JEN IS STILL GONNA BE SUCCESSFUL NO MATTER HOW MUCH U HATE!

  • love me some Jennifer

    and love me some Whitney

but I'd listen to the original over both of their versions any day..

(if you are confused... Google it.)

  • My issue with jennifer is that she does drag things out. Thats fine for her songs..but not no damn Whitney...The VOICE... Its just too much most times.

  • she has a gospel voice so its more drawn out cant do whitney though probably now

  • i dont think she really feels it on a deep emotional level, but check out this relatively unheard artist name "Canji" sing this song

  • Lol, haters... Whitney wishes she could sing this song half as well as Jennifer does now.

  • @TommyGDub thats a damn lie! haha! she doesn't need to sing a damn note more really.. she is a living legend! Diva Original! lol :) get it right! lol

  • unlike(

  • So Beautiful, such a star!!!!!

  • I Love Jennifer, she shows so much love and respect to Whitney at all times. If I could pick anyone to follow in Whitney's footsteps it would be Jennifer without a doubt. There will never be another Whitney but Jennifer just GETS it.

Now if Jennifer could pick some good songs for herself instead of the bland generic R&B she has been singing.

  • no one can do this song like whitney houston

  • the person above sounds so dumb jennifer sounds fun the only thing is when whitney sung it she set the bar and made the song really popular so everybody wants to compare other performances of this song to whitney

  • She was always beautiful to me but now she is such a stand out gorgeous woman. I'm so happy for her!!!!!!! She is stunning really

  • JENNIFER CANTA MUITO BEM, ADORO ELA, MAS ATÉ HJ AINDA NÃO VI UMA CANTORA CANTAR COM TANTA SEGURANÇA IGUAL WHITNEY, INDEPENDENTE DO PROBLEMA DELA ATUAL, ELA É INDESCUTÍVEL, SERÁ SEMPRE A MELHOR.

  • No one can sing like Whitney Houston period!

  • As a vocalist I can say that Jennifer Hudson equals Whitney Houston in talent, and vocal technique, so I am not in agreement with the last comment. Of course Jennifer adds her own special spin on it, and has a different timbre in her voice ....

  • @yiddena no one equals whitney in singing, she was hands down the best vocalist ever, none even came close, i love J-hud for always paying tribute

  • LEONA LEWIS VERSION IS GREAT!!! i love j hud bt if we had to rank this i wud say WH #1, LL #2 JH #3 and everybody else fall very short bt also she making this her own so yea its still all good =-)

  • I will always love her too!!! Thats my girl, she can SANG!!!

  • This was Dolly's song.

  • @Tiny1bme THATS TRUE BUT DOLLY CANT DO THIS. ON HER BEST DAY.

  • just to put it out there........and i know some ppl are going to get mad.....but whitneys not the best singer...sorry.....if kelly price remade this song she would shut whitney down in the first 4 bars.......lmfao

  • @thaGoldenVocalist LMFAO you're an idiot...

  • if u would have read my comment properly i didnt want her obese i said i PERSONALLY think she looks alil too skinny right here. i wouldnt wish anyone was over weight, and dont worry im very educated i fully understand the effects obesity has on millions of americans to date.. some close family included, but the pressure that society puts on woman when it comes to their size is a bit overbaring and many woman fall into this im not skinny enough attitude.....she was and is a beautiful woman ......

  • some songs should be left alone.....and in MY personal opinion this is one of them......Whitney Houston had That MAGIC in her voice that made this song so special......and while Jennifer Hudson has a very Powerful Voice to ME she dosent posses that..........so with that being said....this isnt at all taken away from Jennifer's Talent....im just merely speaking my opinion.......

  • @troynellsantana Agree with you, the prime whitney can only sing this song. I dont care who sings it, it can be a living legend like patti labelle, it wont be the same unless it was incomperable Whitney Houston

  • @troynellsantana I agree, her voice is a bit too rough for this song, especially at the beginning where this song just needs to be smooth and mellow! love j hudson still though!!

  • @troynellsantana Normally I would agree with you - usually people who sing this song can't do it justice. But Jennifer Hudson's voice is so incredible that I think she's allowed to sing it. I mean, Dolly Parton could never sing it like Whitney and Whitney sure as hell can't sing this song no more so somebody's gotta keep it alive! I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU deserves to be heard!

  • @troynellsantana: DOLLY PARTON was the first to Sing this song. Then Whitney Houston so it may not be BAD AT ALL to mess with certain songs. We would never really know it if WHITNEY didn't sing it; EVEN THOUGH Dolly was the first to sing it.

  • @troynellsantana actually, whitney didn't sing the original, it was originally sung by and composed by dolly parton

  • @troynellsantana I'd like to give you a Standing O for that comment!!!! AMEN!!!

  • no MA'AM!!!!!! Sorry! And They piano player is missing chords!!!!!!! Can we get some color??? He's just playing block chords with no extensions! I mean they both need to just Stop! Drop! right off the stage... Girl you are killin' but dropping your vowels like that is inappropriate!!! Leave this tune to Miss Houston..

  • @troynellsantana Jennifer did it justice..but lets all remember Dolly Parton's version is UNTOUCHABLE..she wrote it for a specific reason..a specific someone..though Whitney added punch..it never needed it.

  • @kosmoboi i guess its a difference of opinion.....Dolly Parton's Version BORES me to tears.....i literally get sleepy when i listen to it......but you say apples i say oranges lol....doesn't mean we're right just different taste.....

  • @troynellsantana i agree which is why whitney should NOT have done such a horrid overblown version of a classic dolly parton song! it is will and shall always be dolly's song. after all she wrote the thing!

  • @darknessisserenity its your opinion so of course i respect it......some people love the mellow version of dolly parton's version and some people love the powerful version whitney put out....im not here to bash these artist i think dolly's version is a classic piece of music...however i believe whitney took it to another level....and no one after her has been able to re-create that magic

  • @troynellsantana if this is a song that should be left alone then whitney houston would have never sung it.. its not even whitney's song.. i think jennifer has everything whitney has.. its just all about how they cover it

  • @sukisilas dude i know this isnt whitney's song....i know the history behind the song and have heard all the other versions BEFORE whitney even put her signature on it...but im sorry after Whitney song this...Dolly Parton lost it to her FOREVER!!...it is now and will always be a anthem for Whitney!!..and even more so now cuz it means so much more to family and fans cuz of her death....Jenny is a AWESOME singer the best in yrs. but she still TO ME dont have what whitney had

  • @troynellsantana really whitney is jennifers idol so i thank it was a great tribute to a legend and she a younger version of whitney without the drugs and thats my opinion

  • @blackeyebeuty your opinion is yours and who am i to argue with you about it....i love jenny.....i wouldnt say she is a young whitney though!!....more of a Young Aretha.....Jennifer's Voice is far more Huskier than Whitney's was in her prime and youth....

  • @troynellsantana Dolly Parton was the one who wrote it and was the first one to sing it. Therefore, if people have the voice to sing this song they should. Jennifer definitely has the voice for it.

  • @giogarcia16 Troynellsantana is nothing but a retard in the first place. If you are going to

Open your mouth up make sure you know what you talking about. Yes you are right

    Dolly Parton sang this

  • @giogarcia16 song and wrote it before Whitney Ever Did.

  • @troynellsantana I don't think Jennifer wants to replace Whitney or something. It's just her performance of the song. Whitney's performance is still there. Similar but, different. And for art, it is mostly subjective, depends on people's experience.

  • @zhonghh Exactly. She was no way claiming she was going to be better or as good as Whitney was. This is merely a song to honor her and we all Grieve differently in the end. She did a decent enough job so why take this away from her with negative comments on here. It pretty good with no real Rehearsal time at all.

  • @zhonghh It sad that Some people could not see what this was for. If people don't like this so much then go elsewhere why watch it then?

  • @gudulpif i wasn't saying she looked bad, im very happy shes lost weight to make herself happy. however in this industry they will tear ppl apart about their appearance, thisworld thinks that beauty only comes in sizes 0-5 and i jus hope she doesnt get tooo skinny her boy type isnt designed to be skinny she is shaped to be curvey and ull figured....on that tip....she is still one of the best female vocaliss of our time.....

  • jennifer looks amazing! good cover of whitney

  • lol at 10 sec sounds like she was about 2 sing one night only but she fixed it she killed it i luv her voice

  • she looks so good!!!!!!

  • leona lewis sangs the song tha best!!

  • @18kenni UM NO THAT WOULD BE WHITNEY HOUSOTN LOL. SORRY BUT WHITNEY HOUSONS VERSION IS THE BEST!

  • whitneys version will always be the one

  • her technique is flawless in this performance.....but i would like her to gain alil weight back....healthy not skinny

  • @thaGoldenVocalist Technique is a product specific to the individual, to each their own taste, so it's impossible to determine whether a person's technique is flawless or not. Technique is something totally separated from voice quality and singing ability.

  • @thaGoldenVocalist -_- Trust me, she's still very fine and she would have much more weight to loose before putting her health in danger. I don't know how the hell you see things, but she is definitly not a Twiggy or a Kate Moss. She's thin and healthy. Besides, being overweight is not very healthy either. I'm not saying she wasn't beautiful before, she has always been a truely beautiful woman, but she only decided to loose weight and get healthier for herself and her health.

  • @thaGoldenVocalist why would you want the girl to gain weight? Wow, she does not look skinny, she still could lose a few pounds...but she looks great. Why would you wish obesity on anyone?? FAT KILLS!! Cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis... the list goes on and on!!

  • go head wiff cho skinny ass .! LMAO

  • Jennifer voice is low and husky it don't sound right.

  • @kmaur21 She doesn't have to get loud with every song...

  • Gatta get use to her this size man.......

  • Check out Charice. She sings this perfectly!

  • shes amazing, whitneys the best but i believe jennifer is the second

  • whitney is good but will never be able to touch this

  • lookin good girl!!! but who cares about your weight when you have an amazing voice!

  • One of the best voices of the past decade!! She is THE VOICE!

  • @fizzgurl2133 You better say that!!

  • Chimier is a lunatic and came on the video to hate because he's mad Jenn did a better rendition of this song that Whitney did on her previous tour. Everything he has to say, just ignore it! And as usual @Chimier, you get a #FAIL

  • @DAlmond123 My account is closing? But you're the one with five different accounts. I wonder why.

And this isn't Jen's rendition, but WHITNEY'S. LOL try again!

  • @Chimier It doesn't matter, she did it better. And you're wrong, I have two! #FAIL as usual!

  • @DAlmond123 She didn't do it better, as she didn't do her own interpretation, but someone else's. Try again.

Making an orange fail isn't gonna change that. Whitney slays your fav now and forevermore. When your fav decides to actually sing instead of screech like a banshee's wailing deathcall, be original in her own interpretations and actually get some musicianship, get back to me. Oh, and when you get a brain and learn about music and singing, get back to me.

  • @Chimier You're the only that keeps replying to my comments. When did she screech like a banshee? But I'll take that over a performance of cracked notes anyday!

  • @DAlmond123 Take it. Whitney's better. 50000x more originality than your karaoke diva.

  • @Chimier Karaoke or not, she obliterated your favorite. You're dismissed now..

  • @DAlmond123 An ant (Jennifer) could never obliterate a lion (Whitney). I give you permission to continue wallowing in your lack of intelligence.

  • @Chimier Still dismissed...

  • @DAlmond123 Still here

  • Chimier y don't u go some where, Great u don't like jennifer now move on. That won't change the fact that she is one of the greatest vocalists out. I hate idiots like u who think they know everything..

  • @IAmUnique678 When did I say I think I know everything? Never, right? Is music everything? Nope. Did I even say I know everything about music? Nope.

    Your comment is dumped.

  • Simply The Best

  • @dalmond true , why comment on the videos of people u claim u don't like? I know I never do. They are all delusional.

  • i love her!!!! she is awsome....she cant even sing a song without people complaining .... she has the THE VOICE so she is going to show it off no matter what...I LOve JHUD

  • @dalmond chimier is a delusional beyonce stan, no point in discussing with them.

  • @IAmUnique678 I know but I'm getting tired of him polluting all Jenn's videos with rude comments. He claims to not like her, yet he comments most of her videos where he thinks she does bad or when she sings a song by one of his favs. I remember one day him saying he likes Jenn and thinks she is one of the top vocalist of this generation, but I don't see how!

  • @DAlmond123 When did I say I liked Jen? I said I think she's improved. I probably said I liked her MORE than I did before. Doesn't mean I like her. Try again.

  • @Chimier You just did! You said I liked her more than I did before. #FAIL

  • @DAlmond123 Saying you liked someone more than you did before is not the same as liking someone. I could hate someone, then just not like them. I liked them more than I did before, but it doesn't mean I like them. Try again.

  • @IAmUnique678 No, you're just a moron. Oops.

  • @Chimier Is you mad Nippy can't sing this good anymore? Now OOPS that!

  • @DAlmond123 Why would I be mad when Whitney can sing 1000x better? LOL yeah, try again.

And once more, this is Whitney's interpretation, not Jen's. Ooops!

  • @Chimier Correction.. Whitney COULD sing...

  • @RashadCascade She still can. Try again.

  • @Chimier It doesn't matter, you like her to some degree. I need to let you in on a well known fact. Whitney can NOT sing like she used to, and this is coming from a big fan. Whitney even said that Jenn is not only one of the best singers of this generation but of our time! Comment when Whitney gets back her chest-to-head transitions like Jenn did at 0:47. Oh yeah that's right, she won't!

  • @DAlmond123 Oooh, no I don't. If I despised her musically before and I just don't like her now, it doesn't mean I like her. Logic 101.

Whitney doesn't have the voice she used to. Difference.

Whitney's been doing them all year. Ooopsie!

  • @Chimier I can't believe you just admitted to not liking Whitney as I'm sure you were not referring too Jenn. I only watched the first couple shows from the tour. I couldn't stomach what I was watching so I didn't watch anymore. I bet the "transitions" were not smooth.

The point is, if you don't like her, why are you watching this video? And you should stop analyzing the performances note by note.

Whitney hasn't had a 5* performance in a decade. Just saying...

  • @DAlmond123 I was referring to Jen. Try again.

You only watched a couple of shows? Then you aren't in a position to talk. You can "bet" whatever you want. The fact is you don't know and never have done. Anyone (you) who confuses clip volume with resonance and karaoke with art and musicianship shouldn't be talking about singing.

No one was analyzing note by note. This sucked. This was karaoke, not art. Period.

Again, shows how much you know. Sit down.

  • @Chimier

There's no objective criteria to judge how well someone sings. What you just typed is bullshit.

  • @kives1985 LOL yes there is. Your comment is dumped.

  • @Chimier Look here, Jenny kilt your fav in the first note.

  • @DAlmond123 Or not. As I said, karaoke, not art. When Jen becomes a great interpreter, let me know.

  • @Chimier Who gives a crap if it's art or not, she made music. Go look up Jenn singing Believe, then you'll see she can make a song her own.

  • @Chimier

    LOL. No there isn't.

  • @kives1985 Hmmmm....let's see. A singer can be evaluated on: phrasing, timing, interpretive ability, use of vocal expressions and dynamics, authenticity, rhythmic and melodic creativity. Shall I keep going?

  • @Chimier

    By who though?

    By you or by me?

I could like someone's "phrasing" better, or I could disagree with how "authentic" someone is.

    It's all subjective.

  • @kives1985 IDK, seeing as how they are aspects of MUSIC, it would seem that they are important to singing, because...wait...they are!

Do you even know what phrasing is? And liking someone's phrasing better does not mean it IS better.

Musical authenticity is not subjective. I ridicule you. Sit down.

  • @Chimier

Actually it does mean it is better, because there's no authority on "phrasing." Any authority you'd point to would be a false authority. It's all about preference. There are objective measures to singing, but there is only subjective evaluations. So no, no singer can be objectively better than another singer. Stop being illogical.

  • @kives1985 Um, no it does not. I like Whitney Houston's version of Look into Your Heart more than I do Aretha's, but Aretha's is better.

Again, do you even know what phrasing is? If so, explain. If not, stop speaking.

  • @kives1985 Um, no. If a singer's timing is off, then it's not subjective. If a singer isn't doing an authentic interpretation in another genre, it's not subjective. If a singer's vocalizations don't match with the song's chord structure, it's not subjective. If a singer is just thrilling to the climax instead of serving the whole piece, it's not subjective. If a singer isn't building a song properly, it's not subjective. Let me stop here.

  • @Chimier If a singer's timing is off, then it's not subjective. <---not subjective

But the question, "does that matter?" is subjective. You may evaluate a performance on that measure, but that doesn't mean that I have to evaluate a performance on that measure. I may not give a flying fuck about a singer's timing. IN FACT, maybe the fact that the singer can't keep time is part of the reason why I think the singer is awesome.

  • @kives1985 "<---not subjective"- And the point of that was...

Of course it matters. Rhythm is the most important aspect of music. Without it, we wouldn't have music. Therefore, if a singer fails to keep to the meter, it doesn't make them awesome, it makes them sucky. Just because you don't give a flying fuck about it doesn't mean it's any less important.

  • @kives1985 Sit. You obviously know nothing about music and its aspects. Again, jut because you don't care about it doesn't invalidate its importance.

Most people don't know about such things. So what? Most people don't know about the functions of the human body in detail? Does it make it any less important because they don't know? Of course not. I ridicule you.

  • @Chimier

Sorry, but physiology and anatomy are sciences. Music is an art. It's open to interpretation.

  • @kives1985 Music is also a science. Try again. How well notes in chords blend together, the speed of vibration, rhythm, all of it is based in science, not someone just making up random things that sound good. Example- A4 vibrates at 440 HZ. Know what you're talking about before you start talking. Please and thank you.

Now as I said, rhythm is not open to interpretation. If someone is out the meter, it's not subjective. Try again.

  • @kives1985 The qualities of music are facts, not opinions. Rhythm, melody, harmony and form are the most important aspects of music. Fact, not opinion. Each genre of music has certain qualities that make them what they are. Fact. Music has rules. Fact. If someone can't keep a beat when singing, if they don't know how to phrase, if they aren't rhythmically or melodically creative, if they can't give an authentic interpretation of a piece in a genre, they aren't good singers. Point blank.

  • @Chimier

Fact: the facts that you just stated as facts are in fact OPINIONS.

There are people that think that Dolly Parton sings this song better than Whitney Houston. There are people that think that Paula Abdul or Bob Dylan or the lead singer of Cannibal Corpse are better singers than Whitney Houston.

    Are they wrong? NO.

  • @kives1985 You have missed my point totally. Go and learn about music theory and vocal pedagogy, then get back to me.

How much you like a singer/a singer's intepretation is subjective. How good the interpretation actually is in terms of melody, rhythm, form, building etc., none of that is subjective.

Yes, they are very wrong. Bob Dylan can barely hold a melody.

    Your comment is dumped.

  • @kives1985 Singing is based in MUSIC. What is music? It's STRUCTURED sound. Why do you think songs have chord progressions and time signatures? For vanity's sake? No, to STRUCTURE the sound(s) present in a certain manner. Thus, if a singer is OUT of this structure, it's NOT GOOD SINGING! SIMPLE!

YOU obviously don't understand anything about music or singing. Not my fault. What you don't know is known by other people. Point blank. You say music has no rules? Tell that to a musician.

  • @Chimier If all a singer can do interpretive wise is copy another singer, it shows a lack of creativity, thus it's not good singing! Music is all about being CREATIVE. This wasn't creative, just a recycled vocal. I ridicule you.

  • @Chimier Duh! You're not getting it that she wanted to sing it like Whitney. And last time I checked Whitney could never hit these notes neither has she ended the song the way Jenn did. EPIC #FAIL

  • @DAlmond123 Whitney could never hit those notes? Who lied to you? Sit DOWNNNNN! LOL NEXT!

  • @Chimier She can't hit them now. #FAIL

  • @DAlmond123 LOL let's not get carried away. You obviously haven't learned to think yet.

  • @Chimier She couldn't do this now, just accept it!

  • @DAlmond123 Nope, I don't accept baseless crap like what you just said.

  • @Chimier Just leave the video please. Her views will just keep going up.

  • @DAlmond123 Are you going to make me?

  • @Chimier Yep, your account is closing soon. But I'm just letting you know her views will only keep increasing if you keep coming to the video.

  • Different cultures define music differently.

I find it funny that you're using a WESTERN form of evaluating music to rationalize your opinion as fact, when in fact, both Jennifer Hudson and Whitney Houston sing "black" music.

Do you think Son House or Bessie Smith or Leadbelly or Robert Johnson gave a shit about music theory? Hell, Aretha Franklin couldn't read sheet music.. Neither could the Beatles really.

  • @kives1985 Nope, music is defined through rhythm, melody, harmony and form in ALL cultures. The difference is HOW they use them.

Aretha Franklin is the greatest singer of all time, apart from Ella Fitzgerald. You know why? Musicianship. The Beatles were successful as hell and their impact huge because their musical ability was peerless in their field, back in their time. Bessie Smith is one of the all-time greats cos she's a fab vocal musician. You just proved my point. Thank you.

  • @Chimier

No. That's not how music is defined in all cultures

  • @kives1985 Prove it.

  • @kives1985 This isn't about black music, white music, blue music, new music. Music is music. How it is used can differ. What isn't subjective are its qualities. In African music, rhythm is as important as it is in Western culture. If you can't keep a beat when playing music or singing, it's not good musicianship! That simple.

  • @Chimier

OK. The people that listened to African music defined what made a great blues shouter or a good soul singer or a good jazz singer or a good rock and roll singer. It was their subjective evaluations that determined what a good singer was, and out of that, came the various genres of music. There was maybe a formalization of the criteria, but no one HAS to abide by that criteria.

  • @kives1985 Um, no. No, it wasn't.

Yes, you have to ABIDE by the rules of music. If the song is in 3/4 timing, would a musician play it in 5/4? No. If a song is in the key of Bb minor, would a musician play a G# or F#? No. If a song is jazz in genre and requires the singer to front or back phrase, why would the singer losing the meter altogether be acceptable? Please. Music has rules and they must be followed.

  • @kives1985 Various genres of music came from people using different instruments and sounds combined with different rhythms and various forms. Please try again.

  • @Chimier

Now. I think you're going to be hard-pressed to find someone that thinks I sing better than Marvin Gaye. However, there could be someone that likes how I sing, and to them, I am the greater singer. Their evaluation criteria of what is or isn't a good singer is different from your evaluation criteria, but it's not worse, because there is no "correct" way to sing.

  • @kives1985 There is a correct way to sing, both technically and musically. If you can't sing on key, if you can't sing on beat, then you're not a good singer. If all you can do is copy other singer's musical interpretations, that's what we call karaoke, not art. If all you can do is wail above the chord progressions with no idea how to resolve or establish musical themes or how to phrase to be truly vocally expressive, you're not a good singer. It's that simple.

  • @Chimier

There is no correct way to sing, and it's up to you to PROVE that there is. I don't have to disprove what you propose.

  • @kives1985 Um, yes there is. #1- Technically, if you don't have good breath support, a good sense of pitch or production, or controlled placement, then technically you're not a good singer.

  • @kives1985 #2- Musically, if you can't maintain a meter, can't create an ORIGINAL authentic interpretation in any given genre, have no idea how to phrase, have no idea how to use melodic and rhythmic expressions to thrill the entire piece and not the climax, have such a crappy musical ear that you pay no attention to the chord progressions and just wail and scream all over the place, then you suck at singing.

  • @kives1985 I recommend you go and read about books on music, seriously. Take a class or something. You seem to be one of those people who think music is one endless string of sound where you can do just what you want. It doesn't work that way, sorry.

  • @Chimier

I recommend that you stop typing such condescending shit. It doesn't really help your case at all. FIrst off, you don't know as much as you think you do. Second, I KNOW that the definition of music is up for debate. There's this thing called google, and it can kind of factcheck claims. In fact, I can go to my university library, and type in definition of music, and I'll tons of papers debating different definitions.

  • @kives1985 Condescending? No, you just don't understand. I know 500x more than you do, that's certainly true.

It doesn't change the fact that music has DEFINITE qualities: RHYTHM, MELODY, HARMONY AND FORM. What are they there for? Decorations? Please.

I suggest you go to your university library. You'll also come across many books and papers establishing music as a form of science and math.

  • @Chimier

I know 500x more than you do, that's certainly true.

You've been verifiable wrong in most of the shit that you've posted. I googled music without rhythm. Why yes, that does exist. I've googled music without melody. Oh that exists too.

  • @kives1985 Or not.

Music without rhythm is called RUBATO, which means "without a discernable beat". It doesn't mean the beat is not there.

Music without melody has no "discernable" melody. It doesn't mean a melody doesn't exist. Try again.

  • @kives1985 Oh, I would advise you to actually read the shit you look up. You proved MY point once again. Thank you.

"You've been verifiable wrong in most of the shit that you've posted"- Really? So I was wrong that jazz has certain qualities that make it jazz? Silly me. I guess I can label Paint it Black by the The Rolling Stones as jazz.

I guess that also means that there's no such thing as resonance, interpretive ability, musicality, originality, authenticity. Wow. You opened my eyes...not.

  • @Chimier

Most of what you type is still wrong though, and the shit that you do type is all mostly non sequitors.

    You never address my points.

Descriptions of music? Sure, you can have them. I won't argue with you that you know how to describe music with musical notation better than I do.

However, that does not make you an expert at what is good and what is bad music.

You can't be an expert at that, because those are value judgments.

  • @kives1985 I've addressed your points thoroughly. You just don't have the knowledge or the capacity to understand.

I never said what music is good and what music is bad. What I was talking about were the aspects of music and singing, which are not debatable.

  • @kives1985 Again, you haven't proved it. I am not wrong in saying the aspects of music are rhythm, melody, harmony and form. Just because they might not be discernable doesn't mean they're not there. And if one isn't present (ex. melody isn't there) it doesn't stop it from being music. You can have rhythm w/o melody, but never melody w/o rhythm. And you can't have harmony w/o melody. And form doesn't exist unless the other aspects are present.
