  • actually I heard this song in Walmart this morning. Wow, shocked!!

  • This is the best sound on YouTube!

  • Classic!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • These forgotten 70's songs are the best ones. You never hear them on the radio, almost like its a crime to be just a good song and not a trend setter.

  • @JaikRyan1968 - you are right on with your4 minutes in heaven statement. Walter Egan certainly gave the world a gift in this quirky "love"song. I think anyone who remembers this song can tie it to some fantasy or good event in their life. I know I have my memories of a 70's summer in Houston with my evil gal pal making our own version of Magnet and Steel

  • for you are a maggot,, and i am steel! (;

  • so good o take a step back and see and listen to the songs that are still so strong today

  • WOW.... just got my license to drive, this played on FM radio, sorta new in my day... ty for the memory..oh yea, 8 track too!! KOOL thankzz!

  • I dedicate this song to my partner, John. Sweet love, I'll always be your lovin' woman. This coming February 2, 2012, will be 14 years that we've been together. Neither one of us is shy to show the way we feel. I know this might sound a bit strange, but it's the opposite for us. In other words, he is the magnet, and I am the steel. When we get married, John and I want to have this as our first dance at our wedding.

  • That guy was cute as Hell.

  • this is just smooth

  • He looks like that kid from Mask.

  • My very first slow dance. Lordy, if mommy and daddy only knew. Lol ;-)

  • what ever became of him?

  • @Midnightryder7 He's old and still singing music. You can look him up on his website and I actually found a recent performance on YouTube in somewhere that looks like a nursing home. I'm not joking, just look for it.

  • One hit wonder!

  • High school with Cindy.....awesome memory

  • He wasn't bad. He wasn't good. Mr. Egan was just average. That's why his career didn't go any farther;I think.

  • @kja427 : You are blind to the fact that he was a poet who put his heart to music and the world became a special place - for four minutes. Can you say that about anything you have ever done??? Or anything you've ever seen in your life???

  • @kja427 He doesn't need a long carrer to be called one of the best song writers, it's all has to do with what his music say's! and he sir was a poet

  • @kja427 He went farther than you bitch. lol

  • Where did the Jessica Biel version go?

  • Boogie Nights..best soundtrack (and movie) ever

Yjos is a great late afternoon tropical looking sky pool song

  • dedicated to my boyfriend from 1978/Kelly, we are now dating again (and we are late 40's and remembering all these songs and MUCH MORE : )

    love, vee

  • The lead singer looks like the kid from Mask.

  • He really camps it up here -- not in the more recent performances also viewable on youtube. truly a renaissance man. thanks so much.

  • there are no old songs but good or bad songs

  • pickydeer: may be it's just mee, but i think walter is looking at stevie at 1:48, second time he sings "with you by my side"....yes walking bass,,double cool...PEACE.LOVE...ricky...r they lip sinking???i can't

    tell > 4 years s.i.u. c'dale with a degree in r/tv (yes a BS Degree)

  • always liked this song, but anyone who plays an instrument can see Walter is not playing..... but young and cute Stevie.....WOW.....!!!

  • he reminds me of the Joker

  • love the stroll dancers lol

  • 15 people like to self mutilate themselves.

  • THIS GUY CREEPS ME THE FUCK OUT/

  • I made love to my girlfriend at the drive in to this song. Hello out there somewhere Shelly.

  • I agree who could not like this song/video. You have an attractive female backup singer and Egan whose not afraid to make himself look absurd (goofy faces) in order to make tame 70's music videos somewhat interesting. I'm glad he at least had a good hit, many musicians don't even get that.

  • Nice walking bass line...this tune just cruises!

  • Awesome. Cimorelli is about to perform a cover of this live that will be downloadable for charity.

  • this song brings back so many good memories!! a classic!!

  • one of the most beautiful songs I've heard

  • That's a great old song..... oohhh ahhhh! ;)c

  • BOOGIE NIGHTS!

  • @SKOTP69 Yes! Boogie Nights !

  • this is such a great song. i was reading an article that quoted walter egan talking about how he wrote this song about stevie nicks. apparently he had a really big crush on her. how sweet!

  • You just can't go wrong with 70's music,,,, this is truely a classic!!!!!!! Thanks for posting it.

  • puesto número uno Claudia Camino

  • This song has one of the best sounding cymbals of all time.

  • He does look super creep in this....yikes. :P

  • Annie McLoone is one sexy voice...and good looking too...Walter Egan does look fucking creepy in this vid lol.....

  • Loved the song but Walter looks the kinda guy hiding 5 terabytes of fetish porn on some basement hard drive. Yikes.

  • @HauptmannAmerica lolol maybe he just had a few doobies or something before they filmed the vid and thats why he looks so spun out lol.... but ur right about the song its awesome. i haven't stopped playing it since yesterday! Great song

  • the girl and Walter were dating? obviously.....

  • This song is in the top 3 of soft rock / pop rock of the late 70s

  • its funny how he keeps looking over his right shoulder . . . . .

  • This song has as much juice now as it did when it came out. Sad that Walter Egan couldnt match this with another big hit. Got Stevie and Lindsey backing vocals, nice sound and feel. Played it at dirt late model race campground recently, had surrounding people who remembered it singing along. Younger ones kind of looked at us funny, but with what they got to listen to nowadays, most of them truly dont know good jams.

  • stevie nicks and linda ronstadt are the actual backups arent they?

  • @phildirt3 I heard it was stevie and buckingham ?

  • @atomicplayboy4u yes, you are right. it's lindsey buckingham and stevie nicks. i think lindsey did the producing and arranging for the album too, if i remember reading correctly.

  • @phildirt3 you could be right ill check the album

  • @phildirt3 Stevie Nicks and the hot chick you see on this video...Annie McLoone are the singers.

  • AWESOME TIMES!!!!

  • the lead is cool!

  • I was 11 in 1978 and had my first crush on a16yr old girl, as this song was playing on the juke box in the arcade at Bissell's Hideaway in fonthill ontario....awesome times back then where d they go?

  • yeah i'm 17 years old and I love this song

  • Chris Isaak ought to cover this one. He'd at least make a better-looking video.

  • this song and Let's get it on always turn me on.

  • omg this video is trying to ruin this song for me

  • 14 people are magnetically repelled by this video.

  • I heard this song on the radio and I love it had to do some looking around had no idea what year or sing love it.

  • Love this song, great voice. I remember it very well back in '78 right out of high school. Very weird looking character though. I'll have to agree with some of the other comments posted, he does look a little Ted Bundy-ish!!

  • It's such a great song, and he's so creepy. Would love to hear Bruce do it. And to waste a Les Paul in such a wimpy lead...

  • I love this song...always have. He has a sexy voice. However, this is the first time I've ever seen this video or Walter Egan. I always imagined him a little more rugged looking but to me he looks a somewhat like "Miss Jane" from the Beverly Hillbillies.

  • 14 people don't know what music is!!!

  • Damn....the Replay button just sent me a bill for overtime.

  • what was in the air in those days? dont know but i loved , i was a kid but i remember now and i wish i would go back there

  • Classic song, summer of '78. It was a great time to be alive.

  • @commentoria What I would do to go back....better days in this world for sure!

  • @Holechaser yep!

  • @commentoria I had to thumb you up on that one. I was 12 or 13 that summer and boy oh boy what music we had going during that period: Funk, Classic Rock, excellent pop hits, one hit wonders, Star Wars, Close Encounters of 3rd kind, Kiss, Charlies Angels, Disco, New Wave, Punk, I could go on and on....

  • he is adorable.

  • stevie nicks dancing in this video........great

  • Walter Egan was a game show contestant in the 80s. He won four games on the short lived US version of Catch Phrase in 1985(Catch Phrase was popular in the UK a few years back when it aired there) and on the game show version of Scrabble in the 80s. Charlie Tuna was the announcer on Scrabble and remembered this hit single.

  • I want to thank Walter Egan for this song, it always calmed the cows down for milking it was weird.

  • @MrRollerderby LOL!!!!!!! This has to be the greatest Youtube comment of all time. Hands down.

  • Love this one......Classic....Still great!!!

  • i remember being 11 and crushing on this girl at camp while listening to this song on the juke box always brings back awesome memories

  • This has a very 1950's vibe to it, i love this song!

  • Walter hit #8 in Billboard, 8-26-78. Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks, sang backup. Hard to believe that Stevie could sing so high, way back then, right, gang? God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • I was only 7 when I first heard this song... I cant believe I remember it word for word, ewwwww... Nah Its a kool song.

  • Great 1 hit wonder. Walt always looked like the kid from "Mask" Ergot, no more hits. Sad

  • This was my shit when i was a kid.

  • How many songs made in the 2000s can hit 352000 views?! This song's been out for decades and it's still a hit! magnet and steeelllllllll!!

  • I guess it does with the video, sorry....

  • an American Masterpiece

  • one hit , but an American Masterpiece

  • Funny. I always loved this song and always thought it had a 50's vibe to it. Finally seeing the video.....I see I was right!

  • Thinking about Michelle. This was our song back in the day and I hear it and it still is. I miss you & I Miss my Friend... Aurora

  • Classic Song....

  • Yeah, that chick wishes she could be Stevie Nicks. That's gotta suck that you have to lip synch to a vocal that you didn't record.

  • @rbilleaud That chick...Annie McLoone did record this song, she is part of the group. Check out the album.

  • @rbilleaud That chick you're referring to (Annie McLoone) is a very close & personal friend of Stevie's & has sang backup for her as well. If I'm not mistaken Stevie served as Annie's matron of honor at her wedding.

  • @bucky468 50's huh????

  • @emilyp1 I don't think I follow you? Come again?

  • @emilyp1 more like 1930s lolll j/k but I love this song!!

  • @kbfirepagan

    Girl singer is Annie McLoone.

  • Geekster to the MAXXXX!! But the song is pretty good actually!

  • I was a little kid when this song was popular

  • @PikesPeakOcean - I believe I was in 7th grade at the time.

  • One of the best songs of the 70's

  • THIS SONG NEVER GETS OLD!!!! CLASSIC

  • @chrsgonz1 Unlike my wife!

  • Walter Egan was a substitute teacher in Tennesse last I heard. A classic never to be forgotten. He still writes music.

  • One of my all time favorite songs. Never gets old.

  • for you are fagget and i am steel stunning

  • @ksscendyn touche.

  • This is the song i keep coming back to listen to... I was so young when this came out but i just love it....

  • get tha f out! this song is the best...right down the line was my wedding song but im thinkin this would have been bad ass!

  • The vivid memory picture? Junior High Gym. 1976. Dancing with Tracy. Long brunette hair, the vanilla sweet smell of her teenage perfume. Her head on my blue leisure suited shoulder. Enough innonence and a naughty air of subtle teenage sexual angst to make for a powerful setting. Give me just a 24 hour visit to that place.

  • Yes that's Stevie Nicks. Egan was introduced to Lindsey Buckingham at a party, Egan, a fan and admirer of Lindsey Buckingham's guitar work on Fleetwood Mac (1975), expressed interest in having Buckingham produce and work on his debut solo album. Buckingham recalled in 1982, "His first album was called Fundamental Roll and I was involved with that on the fringe. Stevie Nicks was also involved, became a friend, and contributed backing vocals to Fundamental Roll.

  • cool song

    freaky guy

  • Is Stevie Nicks backing him up?

  • @spooky29 Stevie sings on the actual album. You see Annie McLoone who is part of his group and sings on the album and this video.

  • Cool Video!

  • I just love this song..

  • I remember working my "summer job" by pumping gas for my one of my dad's gas stations on a major Interstate in Georgia in 1979? Self-serve & same price "cash or credit" was unheard of then.... but, this song was popular as it seemed to play over and over on the radio from the garage bays as I served the customer heading to Florida or returning from the Sunshine State. Great tune!

  • walter egan was a one hit wonder, but a backup singer by the name of stevie nicks went on to bigger and better things with fleetwood mac and then solo. i love this song and we should also thank him for giving us stevie. the album was produced in part by lindsey buckingham also of fleetwood mac.

    i love stevies smokey voice.

  • @pwc7475 The one-hit wonders of that era account for so much good music collectively that we've got to include them in the golden age of pop music. All those "one hitters" made for a great time.

  • this was a great song.

  • Anne McLoone was quite hot back then. I wonder what she looks like today.

BTW. Is that Rob Grille from the Grass Roots playing Bass and singing backup? Sure does look like him.

  • Wow! I remember when this came out! thanks for posting as I haven't heard this song in a long time! :-)

  • @missymiss212 Why wait for him to realize it. Go to him. You want to be with him, go for it.

  • for my nurse..you are the magnet and I am the steel...love you girl.

  • Dude looks freakishly like Betty Boop.

This is one of about 100 songs that have been forever destroyed for me--including some goode ones like "Sultans of Swing" and "Refugee--due to a station that followed the old "Top 40" format and that I was forced to listen to at every meal time for my freshman year of college. Lord, they ground those things to death. I still break out in hives when I hear anything from the "Grease" soundtrack.

  • Written 4 Stevie Nicks. Notice the "flowers" on the mike! Stevie is there.

It's all "make-up" ment to freak you. The guitar work and the stroll is all

    Walter=========I NEED WALTER!

  • Holy Moly.....i LOVE this song!! Great memories from the 70's! i miss those good ole days.

  • Oh Wow !!! What Memories !!!
