These forgotten 70's songs are the best ones. You never hear them on the radio, almost like its a crime to be just a good song and not a trend setter.
@JaikRyan1968 - you are right on with your4 minutes in heaven statement. Walter Egan certainly gave the world a gift in this quirky "love"song. I think anyone who remembers this song can tie it to some fantasy or good event in their life. I know I have my memories of a 70's summer in Houston with my evil gal pal making our own version of Magnet and Steel
I dedicate this song to my partner, John. Sweet love, I'll always be your lovin' woman. This coming February 2, 2012, will be 14 years that we've been together. Neither one of us is shy to show the way we feel. I know this might sound a bit strange, but it's the opposite for us. In other words, he is the magnet, and I am the steel. When we get married, John and I want to have this as our first dance at our wedding.
@Midnightryder7 He's old and still singing music. You can look him up on his website and I actually found a recent performance on YouTube in somewhere that looks like a nursing home. I'm not joking, just look for it.
@kja427 : You are blind to the fact that he was a poet who put his heart to music and the world became a special place - for four minutes. Can you say that about anything you have ever done??? Or anything you've ever seen in your life???
pickydeer: may be it's just mee, but i think walter is looking at stevie at 1:48, second time he sings "with you by my side"....yes walking bass,,double cool...PEACE.LOVE...ricky...r they lip sinking???i can't
tell > 4 years s.i.u. c'dale with a degree in r/tv (yes a BS Degree)
I agree who could not like this song/video. You have an attractive female backup singer and Egan whose not afraid to make himself look absurd (goofy faces) in order to make tame 70's music videos somewhat interesting. I'm glad he at least had a good hit, many musicians don't even get that.
this is such a great song. i was reading an article that quoted walter egan talking about how he wrote this song about stevie nicks. apparently he had a really big crush on her. how sweet!
@HauptmannAmerica lolol maybe he just had a few doobies or something before they filmed the vid and thats why he looks so spun out lol.... but ur right about the song its awesome. i haven't stopped playing it since yesterday! Great song
This song has as much juice now as it did when it came out. Sad that Walter Egan couldnt match this with another big hit. Got Stevie and Lindsey backing vocals, nice sound and feel. Played it at dirt late model race campground recently, had surrounding people who remembered it singing along. Younger ones kind of looked at us funny, but with what they got to listen to nowadays, most of them truly dont know good jams.
@atomicplayboy4u yes, you are right. it's lindsey buckingham and stevie nicks. i think lindsey did the producing and arranging for the album too, if i remember reading correctly.
I was 11 in 1978 and had my first crush on a16yr old girl, as this song was playing on the juke box in the arcade at Bissell's Hideaway in fonthill ontario....awesome times back then where d they go?
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
Love this song, great voice. I remember it very well back in '78 right out of high school. Very weird looking character though. I'll have to agree with some of the other comments posted, he does look a little Ted Bundy-ish!!
I love this song...always have. He has a sexy voice. However, this is the first time I've ever seen this video or Walter Egan. I always imagined him a little more rugged looking but to me he looks a somewhat like "Miss Jane" from the Beverly Hillbillies.
@commentoria I had to thumb you up on that one. I was 12 or 13 that summer and boy oh boy what music we had going during that period: Funk, Classic Rock, excellent pop hits, one hit wonders, Star Wars, Close Encounters of 3rd kind, Kiss, Charlies Angels, Disco, New Wave, Punk, I could go on and on....
Walter Egan was a game show contestant in the 80s. He won four games on the short lived US version of Catch Phrase in 1985(Catch Phrase was popular in the UK a few years back when it aired there) and on the game show version of Scrabble in the 80s. Charlie Tuna was the announcer on Scrabble and remembered this hit single.
Walter hit #8 in Billboard, 8-26-78. Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks, sang backup. Hard to believe that Stevie could sing so high, way back then, right, gang? God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!
@rbilleaud That chick you're referring to (Annie McLoone) is a very close & personal friend of Stevie's & has sang backup for her as well. If I'm not mistaken Stevie served as Annie's matron of honor at her wedding.
The vivid memory picture? Junior High Gym. 1976. Dancing with Tracy. Long brunette hair, the vanilla sweet smell of her teenage perfume. Her head on my blue leisure suited shoulder. This is one of about 100 songs that have been forever destroyed for me--including some goode ones like "Sultans of Swing" and "Refugee--due to a station that followed the old "Top 40" format and that I was forced to listen to at every meal time for my freshman year of college. Lord, they ground those things to death. I still break out in hives when I hear anything from the "Grease" soundtrack.
actually I heard this song in Walmart this morning. Wow, shocked!!

Anne McLoone was quite hot back then. I wonder what she looks like today.
BTW. Is that Rob Grille from the Grass Roots playing Bass and singing backup? Sure does look like him.

@missymiss212 Why wait for him to realize it. Go to him. You want to be with him, go for it.

Dude looks freakishly like Betty Boop.
