  • Amazing to see how pure and virtually unchanged the techniques have been. This could have easily been filmed last week, that is to say, the techniques have stood the test of time.

  • Weird seeing him as a young dude

  • was incredible.. thank you O Sensei

  • see how Sensei maintains proper posture, balance and centering. Note how he flows, moves and executes with economy. Note especially how he is non aggressive actually protects his attacker trying to be careful to do no harm to himself or his opponent. Note his awareness and presence of mind and total lack of emotional attitude. He is unafraid. One can feel his chi in near perfect state. See that he knows he owns himself and the mat. Moves with beauty.

  • This video makes me proud to call Morihei Ueshiba "O' Sensei"

  • the "thwomp" sound kinda breaks the illusion

  • Respect

  • guuau pero tiene k ver con el ki/chi o algo asi no?

  • hermoso

  • FABULOSO YO PRACTICO AIKIDO EN PARIS !!!! GRACIAS POR ESTE VIDEO

  • Grande disciplina e grande Naestro del passato...ma purtroppo le tecniche sono inefficaci contro avversari reali...

  • Two greybeards were talking one day about their years of aikido training. One asked the other if he'd ever used aikido in a fight. The second thought about it and said that he hadn't. To which, the first replied, "Your better at aikido than me, I have".

  • @henryofarad it's sure nice to a lot of people, but i'm sooooooo damn tired to this kind of anecdotes. aikido IS a martial art. because of this philosophic way of thinking, 95% of the german aikidoka just suck and are not able, not even in their dreams, to defend against any kind of attacker.

  • @henryofarad Great saying my friend :)

  • @henryofarad Indeed!

  • O___O

  • awesome kotegayeshi at 1:18

  • Image you tachiwaza guys over and over on hard concrete floor

don't think they'll dare to attack you ever again

severe head and spine injury is scary

  • Wow!

  • @handman524 Right, except that he's never actually attacking. He's always, always on the defensive and, as a result, quite literally invincible.

  • Its like he made everything flow in a attack

  • re check he came to shordich east london 1958 ish ! i did'nt know untill i was looking at a class one day and the instuctor asked me to show him what i knew and he told me who had talt dad and then dad showed me in later years ! the instuctor was gob smacked when i showed him locks ect ! he said there is only one person in the world who could have trained dad !

  • Aikido i one of the best thing that happend in my life it teaches and trains your mind on selfcontrol and avoiding fight.

  • Me van a tratar de loco, pero si tuviera una máquina del tiempo, me gustaría reunir a estos genios y ver estas peleas: Ueshiba vs. Jigoro Kano; Bruce Lee vs. Huo Yinjia; Yip Man vs. Funakoshi; Joe Louis vs. Muhamad Ali; Rickson Gracie vs. Kimura; Mike Tyson vs. Jack Johnson; Oyama vs. Joe Lewis; Chuck Norris vs. Ken Shamrok; Wally Jay vs. Royce Gracie.

  • OSENSEI

  • Nice...

  • @patrickhenrysghost

Maybe Hatsumi is in it for the money, but remember that even the worst technique has a chance to win, and underestimating other arts or opponents won't help you with anything else than to strengthen a weak ego.

  • @theblacksashman

That's very positive, although it sounds as if only individuals do this and there are no whole schools practicing this. But it might come someday if we are lucky.

  • I have met individuals who have this approach and teach in small groups, I would say BJJ in particular has internal elements anyway, although not vocalized. I have met a BJJ practitioner who was big on 'tuning in'/mindfulness of body and basic sense of energy before and after class. My feeling is you can choose to practice like this regardless of what the general trend is.

  • @theblacksashman I see, i trained BJJ and the guys they always put music while we roll, at that time i realize all sacred nature is lost

  • Offcourse you can practice them internally, but I don't see indicators which point to this being done. Do you you know where this form of Krav or BJJ is being practiced?

  • BJJ and Krav Maga are 'visual tequnique'? Depends how you practice them.

  • Yes, for some reason they don't tell people about what really makes the different arts so powerful. Ninjutsu is another great example. Watch Hatsumi doing Ninjutsu and then watch any other 15 th dan Ninjutsu. Everyone can see that Hatsumi is doing something else.

  • @CoolFool002 Yeah. Hatsumi is taking their money.

  • Ueshiba was heavily embroiled in NWO cultism, which retains the so called 'energetic knowledge' at the top while every other middle class joe so-and-so follow the 'jive shit for rich white folk' with an absolute mindless abandon to what actually might be going on.

  • @thundermik 4

In my opinion, eastern martial arts stand out because one strives to do little movement while creating as big an effect as possible and Ueshiba was a master. I think many train Aikido as being form and visual technique like BJJ or Krav Maga. So does many karate, teakwondo and kungfu people unfortunately. The movements which lies underneath are the secret but they are not visible to the naked eye, and the right techer is the key to understanding this regardless of art.

  • @Jackass2100

    Nobody won.

    Also cheers from Denmark.

    @lordtains

Tadashi Abe was known as fighter, and fought other Aikidoka at several occasions, while he trained at hombu dojo under Ueshiba. So it's possible but not desirable. Especially the times where it wasn't pre-arranged...

But I admit, Tadashi Abe wasn't your perfect Aikido role-model.

  • at some point it just seems fake. does anyone know of good clips showing this art?

not disrespecting, but it seems the younger guys were just helping too much....

  • the real master is the one doing all the falling

  • help me understand... if aikidoka do not train against resisting opponents in the dojo, how can you expect to defend against resisting opponents on the street? your opponent on the street is not going to "cooperate" with you like inside the dojo. please, just for the sake of argument, ask a judo practitioner to grab your collar or grab your wrist and try to execute a wrist lock against him. you will find that traditional aikido training methods do not prepare you adequately for the street.

  • @aikidoisthebombyeah ...we do train resistance. But you need to learn the art before trying to use resistance in the attacks...otherwise people get hurt, and don't train with broken arms.

  • hey guys... this is a great video... but check out tomiki aikido tournaments... watch what happens when the attacker is allowed to resist... totally dispels the myth of "would break a normal guys arm with each throw". on the street, people resist... plain and simple... self-defense is a competition... you are competing against your attacker to save your own life... your attacker is competing to take it from you... you are competing to grab his wrist... he is competing to prevent you from it...

  • oh, I've trained most of them :D

    so cool!!! ^^

  • how can i find the background song? what is the name of the track?

  • ILUMINADO UESHIBA

  • Wow! This is special. To watch the old masters in action 75 years ago. It is an honor just to see something like this, from so long ago.

  • The students aren't helping him. He's Mastered Timing, Physics and the body then Internal energy and more than the Eye can percieve. in Iaido - One move and you die... The techniques O Sensei does are those same movements with No Ending. Great Man... I just wish I was there to learn from him...How lucky are those that knew him. Japan is fortunate to have a Son like him. True Legend.

  • I'll just say this to all Aikido practitioners who are convinced their art is 100% better than everything else: who is willing to step into a ring and prove it? As for the legendary stories of Ueshiba's feats and martial prowess, many of them come from his highly devoted inner circle and are very biased and more than likely embellished greatly in the retelling. I'm not saying Aikido is a bad art form (depending on how it's practiced), but you need to maintain at least a little bit of skepticism.

  • @mrtimisin78 It is impossible to concern skeptically to the Way of self- perfection, if man achieves the highest degree of harmony and wisdom.

I see, that this man has reached sanctity, he sees spiritual LIGHT.

By means aikido or christianity - is not important. Here - presence of clarification from low desires and aspiration to beauty and harmony..

  • @mrtimisin78 Entering a ring proves nothing. In a real life or death situation there's no rules at all.

  • Wow. I didn't know that there was any footage of Ueshiba when he didn't look like he had one foot in the grave.

I wonder if this footage is undercranked or if they're really working as fast as they appear to?

  • Remember I was here.Thai

  • Aikido is to create harmony from movement. People grab you turn and hold onto a joint and throw. Aikido has choices kill, not to kill and all in between. Other martial arts are not as option based. I am not saying other martial arts don't have their effectiveness it is just Aikido is about harmony while others are clashing.

  • Never second doubt any Aikidoka. You only get 1 chance, it had better be good too, because it'll be over before you ever even start it. OSU to all my fellow compassionate Aikidokas. Peace.

  • OH OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOh I'm so scared. They too stroooooooooooong.

  • @salishaw actually the trick is NOT being strong salishaw ^^

  • See 'Ueshiba Archmage' Time to take the 'red pill' ppl.

  • @blacksashman You've used the red pill "joke" in 1000 comments you fucking spammer.

  • I think Ueshiba's connection with the Satanic New Age was his greatest protection against attackers.

  • How he does here against simple slow grabs where his students are basically offering them their hand/s..is one thing, but if a big, strong lightening fast boxer or kickboxer or Muay or Wing Chun fighter attacked Ueshiba, I think he would have had a problem.

  • @m1artz Master Ueshiba was many times attacked, early in his career. occasionally by gangs, with or without weapons. do some research, there are stories of him overcoming upwards of twenty grown men. what is shown is for the sake of demonstration, exaggerating movement to display form, so learning and growth may occur

  • I have been studying AIKIDO for 9 years plus which means i'm a novice in respect of what this clip shows in short AIKIDO works and works very well indeed !, nothing fake although it does look like it is fake thats when you are at one with your surroundings nothing blocky but all fluid like water am also a door man and i do not know how to correctly explain this but you give off a vibe which people around you seem to give you a wide berth for no known reason

  • Please, tell me what is this song?

  • aikido as a martial art is a long lasting fake. in real fight aikidoka is like distracted child -- everythig goes wrong from his point of view

  • @gtwaterdeep noob, what MA are you doing?

  • @gtwaterdeep very - interesting point of view. I will make sure to include your thought in my training.

Just one question if I may. Did you attack aikidoka outside a dojo? I don't say several months training aikidoka, I mean dan graded aikidoka.

  • @gtwaterdeep excuse me have you actually studied aikido? not like for a few months, but for several years??

  • aikido as a martial art is a long lasting fake. in real fight aikidoka is like distracted child -- everythig goes wrong from his point of view

  • I love how he uses stepping to constantly upset the attacker, even before he gets there.

    osensei is rad!!!

  • Wonderful video!

Thanks for posting and Best Regards from Athens!

  • in my opinion the very best example of aikido on youtube, showing a degree of power and dynamic which has become seldom these days!

  • he trained my dad in east london in the 50s

  • @ehead2222 Yeah right...

  • @IslandTrust yeah right do ya homework shit head befor your mouth gets you in trouble !

  • @ehead2222 The first time O'Sensei (Morihei Ueshiba) left Japan for Aikido was in 1961 to Hawaii -- we just celebrated the 50th anniversary last month at a seminar in Honolulu with his grandson & great grandson. As far as I know, not only was he not in East London in the '50s --- he NEVER went to England --- so you have a problem with your claim. Maybe someone else trained your Dad?

  • @ehead2222 I don't know your dad but I have read a good few books on ueshiba and I've never heard of him going to London in the fifties either. Having said that I don't think Hawaii was his first time out of Japan, though it's meant to be the first place he taught Aikido outside of Japan. Maybe you could provide some context or proof for your claim?

  • who said thats Aikido? no thats Cosmology

  • really good. I am planning on joining an aikido class sometime in the next month

  • Lexicologist71, this is O'Sensei.

Do you homework on Aikido. Please.

There's so many vids of O'Sensei in Youtube. Find them.

  • 1:18..la perfezione!!!

  • Thats is O sensei.

u guys are used to old nice gentle o sensei.

um...he was really a feirce warrior when he was young...I've seen pics where he looks like the devil himself.Shinbu manifest.

He used to go around challenging people, breaking hips, retiring people...etc...

I think that was what really led him to Aikido.

  • i agree with you all the way....people dont realize how much of a warrior he was....i believe my father told me that i have had a relative of my great, great, grandmother train with o sensei when he was in his militant years....he told me that she had got letters from her relative that o sensei was always challenging people(maybe one of o sensei's enlightment events)...but she mentioned that he was always humble towards others, but when trouble arose,o sensei would end it...no matter what it was

  • whoa thats really kool.

also it is an old custom to not name defeat opponents.

like a respect thing....so alot of those challenges are only known thru word of mouth so to say....

  • O really, haha, who told you this? Don't you think you should know something before you start talking?

  • why would i ever talk to u?

    goodbye.

  • Where can I find those pics? Can you tell me please?

  • @pazevi jus look up Morihei Ueshiba on google...

maybe young...there's one where he sitting in seiza about 40 yrs old....and he looks like Fudo Myoo.

theres only about 3 or 4 pics i've seen of him young.

  • wow fantasic!

  • He is Morihei Ueshiba 'coz his steps are similar than other videos that I've seen.

When Koichi Tohei arrived to this age, already there was cameras which reproduced videos in colour, furthermore, there are videos of Morihei Ueshiba in colour actually, so when he had that age, the camera only films on white and black, or not? xDD

  • why isn't it O Sensei, cuz he isn't older and with white hair and a beard?

  • Little guy makes me think of Yoda

  • I agree with netfinder113 it is not O sensei Morihei Ueshiba.

  • that is o'sensei

  • Little dude is fast!

  • Master Yoda from Earth

  • sorry but isnt Ueshiba - in my opinion is Koichi Tohei -

  • it is Ueshiba

  • It is not Morihei Ueshiba, his Aikido in addition has nothing in common with one done by O Sensei. If you are not sure look for more information.

  • is it really not? then can you point me in the right direction? i will appreciate it.

  • Monkey MAGIC

  • wich is the music?

  • Damn Monkey Man Ueshiba.

  • I love watching his footwork

  • sheep

  • thanks for posting it!!! five stars.

  • nuestro gran sensei cuanta elegancia, sus enseñanzas se han esparcido por todo el mundo, domo arigato,o sensei .

  • AWESOME!...thanks for posting this!!!!

  • ha 1 potenza travolgente....vorrei diventare come lui

  • LOL.

    Spamming Akido videos....

Thanks for helping me make my point about keyboard warriors.

  • I thought that the Japanese flag had the sunrays expanding from the center in pre-world war two defeat?

  • Que sería del mundo si no hubiese existido el maestro Ueshiba.

  • that does not exist. it is impossible for two Aikidoka to fight each other, for Aikido is a counter-based Martial Art. They don't strike first.

two: Every throw you see would break a normal guy's arm. Getting thrown once could probably leave your arm in a state that you will never be able to use it again in you life, or just disable it for months.

and three: Aikido is NOT about winning or losing. It is about self defence. If you want to win, try boxing or some other meathead sport. thanks

  • @lordtains Nice. My Sensei put it perfectly. It goes: their turn, your turn, no more turns.

  • @lordtains meathead sport? how the ... can you say that? I am pretty certain that you can learn a lot from other styles to.

  • @lordtains thank you for stating that!

  • @lordtains you should read Kenji Shimizu's book. Aikidoka's do strike first when needed!

  • @lordtains You put much fervour into your comment. It's always good to see people defending humble aikido on YouTube; yet, if I have one piece of advice to give you is that you should not try to defend aikido. Most of the time, people will remain doubtful and you will have wasted time and 'saliva'... I'm beginning to take on my sensei's view on the subject: if one thinks it doesn't work, one can always ask to fight him.

It's not because we're 'soft' that we can't get a bit brutal ;-)

  • thank you, I am well aware. I even believe that some people are not meant to understand, and that ways like such are not the person's path in life.

This comment was a year ago, I guess I have changed.

    :)

  • @lordtains you are completely wrong. one: its really not impossible for two aikidokas to fight each other. there exists punches! Two: its only some throws that can hurt you much. not every one you see!! kotegaeshi throw, might break your wrist or hurt it.

Three: its right that aikido is selfdefense but i mean that if a man try to punch you and you do the kotegaeshi on him so that he flies up in the air and hurt his wrist and laying crying on the floor, who did win then? cheers from denmark.

  • @lordtains Meathead? Funny how "enlightened" people such as yourself spout excuse after excuse for why their MA is ineffective and sucks, while denouncing the practitioners of a proven one. This is why Aikido sucks, and why I quit.

  • I don't remember calling myself enlightened.

And I don't have to make excuses, I was just explaining things :)

  • @lordtains in most cases of a streetfight, you need to WIN in order to SELF-DEFEND yourself properly.

  • Or just look for shodokan aikido vids. But we the Aikidokas don't believe on that way.

As said by lordtains, this is the Art of Peace.

  • Aikido is not about a tournament

  • wow this is really O'Sensei? It's very interesting. Thanks for submitting

  • Interesting could be to know who the Uke are...

  • aikido

  • such a beautiful technique and emptiness

  • Learning how to fall is very important in Aikido. If you don't know how to fall you will get hurt. At the same time you have to know how to throw. O'sensei is the reason I started to learn Aikido and also Tohei. In fact the first book I read about Aikido was Ki in daily life

  • yeah people see the guys doin flips and stuff when thrown and say ohh thats fake its bs

well waht they dont know is that it isnt suppose to be real

they r trained to do that so their arms or legs dont get snapped off

  • yeah but some people are just too ignorant(or stupid) to realise what the true essence of Aikido(or Martial Arts in general) is. They believe MMA is perfect...

Leave them like that, they will never reach mastery with such closed minds but its up to them to solve that problem

  • thank you and what s technique at 1 05??

  • I think it's koshi nage

  • what s technique at 011???

  • Shomenuchi Ikkyo.......with a throw instead of a pin

  • NICE HISTORICAL FILM!! GREAT STUFF.

  • Comment removed

  • o sensei.

  • o sensei is truly amazing, they just cant catch him

  • Well, they are jumping for him.

  • i respect your art allthough i practice on wing chun it is true that except the knowlege we learn martial arts to defend ourselves from people that want to hurt us or our family,in my art we do sparring so that we can improve our art in real contitions i think that aikido needs years of training to do that on a fight well thats my opinion many regards and respect to you all

  • Yip, as years pass it begins to become more apparent that most confrontations can truly be avoided. Something that a fight I got into taught me. Much of it is egos stories trying to defend who is right and not allowing the other space. If you want to maim someone, fine...but as I pointed out in another post, I would have preferred not to have gave the dude a flowing bloody nose. Now I could end the fight smoother - better yet, I could avoid it altogether... ;)

  • i agree with you, fighting has no point and our sifu sais the best way to do it is to avoid it,but when you cant avoid it can you trully defend your self if you train 1year for example and if the other knows martial arts also, anyway i must say that aikido is so nice to watch it like coriography.greetings

  • no . false!!! in street that would u do it woun't be something like in jo dojo, from a side it don't looks that u are using aikido !!!!, wanna train real punches ? u forgot mbaisic idea of aikido !!! practise everything that say your sensei and try tio read morohiro saito thoughts about aikido and u will see what aikido in truth is !!!!!!

  • in my dojo the teacher wont enven speak to me if i ask apout street applecation of technique. im sure that aikio can work but if you want to defend yourself against real punches you must train on real punches.

  • You've short-changed yourself as a martial artist if you are not getting what you feel to be a good education in modern 'street' fight/flight psychology, techniques and strategies, with an overall emphasis on life/death choices that we make in a confrontation. Enjoy and grow in your chosen art, but beware of teachers who are blind to the reality of the modern age and the rule of no rules. Protect yourself, protect your family. Be absolutely sure that you can survive. This is important.

    Peace.

  • now that what i call seagal's grand pa

  • Morihei Ueshiba how majestic....true art

  • You obviously have no respect for the art even if you have trained.

  • Then watch some of the older Steven Seagal videos and you realize that its the same thing. Its an art respect it for what it is. If your looking for something thats rapid and fast then this obviously isn't the martial art for you. Look up Kempo, or combat applications of Bagua(the real name of Pa-Kua). How ever, every martial arts no matter how you look at its going to be spiritual in a sense because its improving your body. Aikido isn't my art, kempo was, and I plan on taking Bagua soon.

  • At least Morihei Ueshiba used to fight for real, unlike his feeble followers these days.

  • There's a different spirit about these days. In the past people wanted to know if something was worth learning, so they'd go to the local teacher and have a pop at him, and if they lost they'd become his student.

These days they watch vids on youtube and talk crap.

  • These are sad days then, when no Aikido sensei is ready to prove his art.

At least no one I know of.

  • Aikido has worked for me on the street.

  • Really? Care to elaborate?

  • Aikido didnt work: Conflict avoidance

Aikido worked: Conditioning, able to handle a blow from behind unexpectedly.

Aikido worked: Entered grabbing throat throwing attacker onto car bonnet.

Aikido worked: Brushed off second attacker from behind.

Aikido worked: Controlled first attacker by throwing into garden.

Aikido worked: Both attackers left scene.

  • Are you Steven Seagal? ^^

  • hehehehe na Im a better actor than he is, but it really happened, not as pretty as you see on youtube thats the myth. Also the whole event had an exchange of words and a few average punches thrown in, so I wasnt telling the entire truth but I have had no other MA training except 8 years Aikido and hadnt trained for about 4 years when it happened.

  • OK, thanks for your reply.

  • Hotora86 - all due respect, but you're just running your mouth without knowing what you're talking about. If you knew some of the major Aikido teachers, you would know that many tested their art. The late Kanai-Shihan in his youth as a student of O'Sensei, used to go out & get into fights to try out techniques. He fellow students used do go bail him out of jail all the time. I didn't go looking to test it but I've defended my self effectively a few times - almost 40 yrs in Aikido.

  • I said "no one I know of".

I've heard lots of stories but I've never SEEN Aikido applied in a fight. I train Judo and I see the similarities but Judo is constantly being tested and Aikido never. Not bashing, just making a point.

  • Hi - my "running your mouth" comment was to wake you up for a second. It was to the comment "unlike his feeble followers these days". His followers these days covers a broad range including Aikidoists that never met him, to my teachers that trained with him. When you start talking about "feeble followers", I would hope you've had enough experience in the art to be qualified to say that & I don't mean a few local teachers & some crap on YT. My personal sensei is from Osaka - nasty martial Aikido.

  • But you do admit that you're the minority, right?

  • I am part of the minority - the less than 1% of 1% of the martial artists in the world that have truly used their art regardless of style. There is only 1 test of any martial art & it is whether or not you walk away from a confrontation on the street. Everything else is only practice. In the dojo - just practice. In the ring - just practice. None of that is real - just a set-up with rules & safety valves. The only test you'll ever face is someone on the street. So, yes, I'm in the minority.
