good depiction, nevertheless. if something like this hadn't have been done, people would complain how someone would need to do an animation depicting this very scene and other biblical scenes like it.
Wow, a full minute and a half, lovingly detailed from different angles of the heaving chest and quivering muscles, closeups dwelling on the victim's writhing, half-naked tortured body and agonised face - truly, this was S&M soft porn.
You're talking about crucifixion? I meant the psychology of this as a depiction and presentation. It falls squarely in the SM soft-porn genre in its production values; what it chooses to (soft! -)"focus" on; the Romantic drawing style; the Realist mis-en-scene; the music; that sensual lingering on the victim's semi-nudity, & heaving breast - incredibly prurient! As a sanitised, sensualised, bathetic portrayal of "suffering" it's typical of the SM genre.
The difference between hard-core and soft-core isn't so much in WHAT happens as in HOW whatever happens is portrayed. There are murders galore in John Wayne movies - people tortured by "injuns" etc. Kids watched it on Saturday afternoons. Reservoir Dogs has just the same stuff in it: yet viewers felt it was far more extreme. Why? The STYLE of protrayal. Could the artists & editors of this sexy/sensual crucifixion scene be unconscious of the choices they made? In a cartoon, EVERY thing is chosen.
Yes, i think the crucifixion scene shown in films and mentioned in the bible is horrific & brutal. lingering on the torture sequence 'Sexual'? i guess that depends on the viewers concept of sensuality. Maybe so, yet the core premise is Jesus went through this disgusting deadly process 4u &4me ., im sure he did not enjoy it whilst it was happening one bit ey Yikes!! haha, i say all this with respect maintaining ur point as an interesting perspective. i welcome all thoughts, regards dunnonuffink
I'm not talking about what motivates people to crucify (or volunteer for it) - but about this animation. You'd have to be willfully blind not to see that this depiction's drenched in sexuality. Compare what IS detailed ad lingered over with what we know actually attends public execution in Africa and the Middle East even today - piss, shit, flies, squalor; relatives mad with desperation or too terrified to speak. Ask yourself why this depiction here is falsified in the ways that it is.
Hey, that is an interesting view point. I can see how you rationalise it's plausability, the nakedness and rising chest etc. You presented persuasive backing to press your point. I admit i dont know much about levles of torture, or pornography. I do know that when Jesus was nailed to a cross, he was naked, and when your on a cross, you have to lift your whole body with you legs and nailed feet to heave air into your chest. It would have taken every bit of effort to rise his body for each breath.
Yeah you are right in that this depiction is 'highly stylised' i agree. It is nothing close to what Jesus went through as written in scripture. The imagery in this animation is like fairy floss compared to the what the biblical account describes him going through. Hours of torment and abuse, willingly too.
The nakedness represents the utter shame and exposure he endured for mankind. This animation is a poor representation, buts has some merits i guess as it stated a nice little chat (-:

The victim/volunteer is not depicted as naked here: LOOK at it.
He's artfully - coyly - draped.
That's it in a nutshell.

The point I'm making is precisely that this depiction ISN'T horrific - its brutality is extremely stylised, highly selective and deeply prurient.
