  • @brotha Johnny; as far as I'm concern this is the best music that AMERICA(BLACK) has ever produced. But it all started with MILES DAVIS "ON THE CORNER" then "BITCHES BREW",afterall this is where DONALD BYRD got the courage to make these masterpieces.I must say, that Bobbi Humphrey "SATIN DOLL" album was a classic... we have to give credit where credit is due and that's at brotha MILES DAVIS a musical genius. BOB JAMES,GROVER and many others followed that path.

  • This is a song we danced to. We called it Jazz. But it was like a fresh sound that came along with the rythym of the guitars and the Flute and Trumpet solos, this was just a great great hit back in the day........I was in Philly in 73, the city was smokin at that time........ then Bobbi Humprey came out with "Black & Blues, I think it was here where real "Smooth Jazz" was born....What do you think?????

  • Donald Byrd is a traditionalist trumpeter. Classic Jazz. It was in the early 70's starting with the album "Blackbyrd" that he began to appeal to a younger audience who was not necessarily classic Jazz listeners. With a four or five albums throughout the 70's he added funky bass runs and dance rythms to his music and in my estimation captured a whole other generation of listeners. Some of your jazz purest did not like this sort of thing. Byrd returned to classical jazz as the 80's came around...

  • This is the jam!!!!!!

  • There is so much going on in this song..every time I listen to it I hear something new.

  • One of the most forward moving pieces ever!!! Between this and Harlem River Drive by Bobby Humphrey, it's a toss up. And I do know there was a lot of collabaration betwwen the musicians.

  • Lanasana's Priestess WOW and one of Donald Byrd's best song's ever
