I always thought that Jr. Troopa was similar to the rival you meet in each of the Pokemon games. The only difference is that Jr. Troopa is hilarious, has an attitude of his own (which I really like), and actually gives you a challenge.

He really reminds me of Bowser Jr. in a weird way... and Bowser Jr. happens to be my favorite Mario villain apparently. Don't know why. He just seems to kick ass.

Hmmmm, I have a theory. I think that Jr. Troopa is actually Bowser Jr. while he was still in his egg and hadn't fully developed a shell. Luigi's Mansion gave him time to grow one.
