In the Italy we didn't had all those defence test, but in the years from 1983 to 1987 the fear was quite great too. I remember going to sleep some night after listening to the news an thinking "maybe tonight we will be nuked". I'm glad it's over, but I agree with you, sometime in the future someone may step over "that line". Peace!
Just finished watching it, BRILLIANT! Thanks a bunch for posting it, I've tried to see it for years. What's the Russian opinion on this one? Would be interesting to hear from someone old enough to remember the nuclear paranoia of the 80's...
We in USSR lived in fear. We had periodical air defense sirens testing. Suddenly, we hear those sirens, and we knew: if test, it'd stop in 5 minutes. If not, we have 10 minutes before The End. Thanks to God, it is over. Mankind's fear then was bigger than our hatred and desire for power.
But still, there are smart guys bombing and killing in order to build New Order...
Mankind's hatred and desire for power is still huge. Huge enough to step over this line once...
@kolyuha78 We in the US lived in fear as well. In the back of our minds we knew it was possible that a nuclear war would break out between our two nations, maybe within minutes, and then.....nothing. All would be over. All of us doomed. Thanks be to God that it did not happen, but all of us must be vigilant that it never, ever happens. Mir!
Don't bother with this - part 2 was removed.

I live in a cold war primary target area.
A center for the production of war materials so we knew there was no hope.
Several strikes would have reduced this city to powder.
What I remember the most was the anger and stupidity.
The politicians were stupid perhaps even making things worse.
The stupidity of knowing there is no such thing as a war you can win.
Yet we are still here.
But this is not over......
