Gold is measured against everything not just the dollar so I'm not sure what you mean. Maybe on this show in particular they speak to its value in dollars but every country values gold against their currency. In the future that won't change until Fiat money is gone.
Gold is ironic because gold is measured in dollars. If the dollar becomes worthless, how could gold be measured? For instance we couldn't say, $2,000 an ounce, when $2,000 fiat is worthless. Gold would need a new mode of measurement. Would you give up your house for one ounce of gold when you can't get any dollars for the gold? I doubt that would ever happen. Too many people have no gold at all, thus making gold an inadequate tool of barter. Employers are not equipped to pay us in gold.
