@FloorController Back with Suede, doing very nicely on the live circuit with a possibilly great album to come out in the future. There again, it might be crap.
@msangh2003 The interviewer was Paolo Hewitt, who at the time was bestest mates with PW,then they had a fall out and Hewitt wrote his book on Weller. After that defo off PW christmas card list!!!
The funny thing about this is in 2010 Weller released Wake Up the Nation, a Mercury nominated album. The single from this album No Tears To Cry is one of the best things he's ever done. Then look at Brett Anderson's career. Haha.
Bit foolhardy of Brett, but c'mon, who doesn't talk attention grabbing shit when they first make it? Everyone does it. Weller certainly did, and fair play to him, it all adds to the flavour. Music has to be about more than just catchy tunes.
Anyone here saying "who's Brett Anderson" really needs to go and get aquainted with Suede. IMHO Dog Man Star is equally as good as All Mod Cons.
Suede where shite. That song 'beautiful ones' was quite catchy but thats about it. He could never come anywhere near Paul Weller. Shame on you Brett !
@MOONST0MP what a bullshit."beautiful ones" is certainly not their best song. go listen to the first two albums. its just impossible to compare Suede to the Jam, they're absolutely different. and I do love both of these bands
@MOONST0MP A shit song can make a stir only amongst idiots. if it sounds catchy for you, then you have a poor taste. "Suede where shite", Brett "could never come anywhere near Paul Weller" - oh, please cut the shit. You may not like them, but they were still more than good
@MARMARR1 you really need to get a grip on reality. From All mod cons right through to wake up the nation Wellers albums are full of class songs. Even his so called failures (confessions of a pop group, cost of loving) have tracks that have stood the test of time. Weller has never failed to put out a great album , full of songs that, if released could be hits on their own.
I think the real thing to say about Paul Weller if I knew my quote was gonna be read is, music is his God. (He actually said its his religion) and that the weight of expectation crushed that which you turn into an idol. That thing about writing a song to get a new swiming pool is totally wrong. But if he doesn't have anything mor eimportant to base his music on, he's gonna struggle with what music is. I think a lot of the songs are slurred and badly writen and not necessairilly good.
there were a couple of BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD style council albums, and only a couple of really good ones. fortunately, his Jam and solo stuff is all mostly great. too bad Brett was so young, so stoned, and so...............................gay.
Brett Anderson said this during an NME review of the week's new singles back in the early 90s when Weller's solo career was just kicking off. Suede were a huge pop act at the time. Rather ironic once you realise Weller's solo career has been burning brightly for 20 years and that Brett's solo records were released to mass indifference.
When was this filmed? Ironically Weller could pass for Anderson's bother here. Sounds like a quote from when Anderson was sucking on the crack pipe. Can't imagine him making the same statement now
I couldn't have guessed you were from Glasgow. Surely you could have contributed some text that concealed this. Instead all i get from you is precious little substance and colloquial Glaswegian jibberish. Shame on you.
Simple; WHERE is Brett now?????

@MOONST0MP Suede were not shite. If we're talking bands, their certainly above The Style Council in the pecking order. Btw, I'm a big Weller fan.

Ironically, as off the wall as 'Paul Weller' (the album) was in '93, compared to mainstream at the time - It's a total classic!
Wonder where the other two 'wankers' are now?
