Like he seems really just to use straight major or minor scales whenever he plays whereas Loomis really uses a lot of different scales to compliment the rest of the music. And yeah Tosin Abasi is fuckmazing.

Loomis is hands down better than Syn Gates, but thats not to take away from him. Gates is a fuckload better than plenty of guitarists and is one of the better sweep pickers there is. Half of you have never touched a guitar in your life and have no idea what you're talking about. There's too many people that come to this site to blindly fire bullshit out their ass.

@soloistchris666 I dunno maybe you saw something bad but I'm very impressed with Syn's sweep picking. It's crisp and clean and he can do it with a decent amount of speed. I'm in no way saying he's the best at anything but he definitely has skill. And yeah Loomis and his 7string are an epic combination that nearly can't be beat.

@TheWhocares233 well, I don't think that Syn equals Loomis. I would never think that about two guitarists... and yes, it seems that Loomis would have an edge on technique compared to Syn. But I'd still give syn the cup when it comes to genre diversity. The song "Dear God" is a great example of that. The truth is that I can only have ONE nevermore mood, while with a7x I have at least a couple different ones.

Kurt Cobain was a grunge player and grunge is a genre which is deliberately primative in its guitar playing, like Black Metal or Punk Rock. He still made some pretty cool riffs even if he was never capable of a solo in the same league as the virtuosos players like Steve Vai or Jeff Loomis for that matters. But i think he's provided more for the musical world than Syn
