I play with wii remote + num chuck and its easyer to play this way that using classic controler. Easyer when you running around boss, moving camera while running.
yes ppl still play this only hell im usually online for idek how long a day i have had the game for 4 days and got like 65 odd hours most of wich is online so yeah
oh and very good points, the reason this game is so good is because it is basically LoZ OoT with better graphics, more weapons, more action, and a better overall gameplay. there is no annoying puzzles and no dumbass lock-on. there is not a single bit of puzzle or mindless adventure. it all has a purpose. this game has been #1 on many boards since it came out. BEST GAME EVAR!!!
@StevnFoo3423 it is in essence, but so were games like Diablo, Phantasy Star Online, even the recent Borderlands. its sort of like a dungeon crawler except its all about single boss encounters (sometimes other nasty bosses will intervene mid battle because the game has a persistent ecology thing). the main monster, though maybe only dozen or so, are so well designed and have such unpredictable AI it makes repeating the same fight very enjoyable.
@StevnFoo3423 one caveat though, unlike the examples listed, MH is not twitchy and responsive action. its very methodical and deliberate (ie: it takes time to swing a massive hammer). so it can be frustrating when you are in mid animation doing something inane like using a heal potion and you are mowed down by a giant dino-dragon thing. but its that weighing of player action benefit vs risk of being vunerable that makes its quite challenging. you cant grind and expect gear to carry you. at all.
Great review, I've been a great fan of the PSP versions! My girlfriend bought a wii last weekend but I I'm gonna buy myself the Monster Hunter tri tomorrow :D
I'm glad they improved the online experience you mentioned in the video, it has been such a struggle with X-link kai to get online with the PSP (For non-PS3 users)
QUESTION: Does anyone else out there prefer to use the Wii mote not the black controller that i have that is now collecting dust ^_^ . ! I dont get what's so hard about twisting ur wrist left and right and up to perform different attacks .. Infact i'd say its easier and more fun ? ??? Like this comment if you agree or tell me what you think .. was just interested ^_^
@tvandlust it is rather tedious sorting out items and equipment when you have multiple pages of them.
the game COULD have included an auto sort system, like alphabetical or categories like weapons and armour., but this isnt a big flaw a all since it is a great game
I played the demo and wasn't too excited about the game, but it really seems like the actual game is more "open" than the demo was. I should get this at some point. It sucks that the bundle with the Classic Controller Pro is already out of stock :( Maybe I'll wait for Monster Hunter Tri to drop to $40, so I can get it and the Classic Controller Pro for the same price as the bundle was.
Good review but like the other guy said, I thinig you should of showed what online gameplay looked like. I don't see how privacy is an issue here because there are no unique character names.
@TheCodedArm Perhaps, but online looks exactly like offline. You know that as well as I do. I could have soloed an online quest, and barring the name over my head, no one would be the wiser. Even if privacy were not issue, there's really nothing unique about playing online that warrants the extra effort on my part. That goes for most games. Most online modes look exactly like single player gameplay, which is why I don't lose sleep over it, even if privacy was no concern.
@tvandlust Playing with others is whole differen't kind of experience. While the core machanics are the same, with other players in the mix there's more to worry about. like how sometimes you can screw other people's attacks up caused by your own. Plus is just awesome to see everyone working together. Maybe you could do a sub review of just online.
@TheCodedArm Yeah, I completely agree that PLAYING with others is a different experience. I don't think it's necessarily that different in terms of WATCHING some else play with others, for what would it be? 30 seconds? A minute? You know what I mean? I understand the grievance, don't get me wrong, but given this, and that I have limited time and resources for these reviews, and also that (at least most of the time) privacy is a concern, this is how it goes...
@tvandlust@tvandlust Haha, well you did cover most of all the basics and made the game look like fun. So, you have my seal of approval. :) Keep up the good work.
#2-I didn't get the pro until a while after I got the game, so I was already used to the wiimote style. I wanted the pro so my attacks would actually be what I wanted. I'm pretty far in the game, so all the current monsters are kicking my ass as I'm attempting to get the hang of the different controls. Any advice? And do you use classic style 1 or 2?
Fantastic review. Nailed it. Ermm, I just have two things to ask .

I so want to get this game at some point but I just dont have the time to play it... Im trying to fully complete Oblivion and Fallout 3 at the moment so no free time ha ha! Maybe when the price drops I will pick it up for sure. Cheers mate ;o)
Why didn't you show any online footage? Or more of the larger earlier monsters? I think that makes the game look less appealing when you can tell them the online is great but you do not show them what it is like.
@NN10DOUGH I never show online footage in my reviews to protect the usernames of not only myself, but the people I play with. It's a privacy issue. Besides, you make it sound like you've never seen what an online game is. It looks like the single player --just with a couple more people.
I also usually elect to not spoil the game in my reviews, which is why you're not seeing every monster I can show you. It's a review, not a walkthrough. It's meant to give you a general idea. I think I did that.
Thanks a lot brah. Just have one question: can you "catch" the monsters and then ride them? Like, Lair style except without the suck. Believe it or not this is very important to me.
I dont have a whole lot of money to spend. Which do you think I should get for the Wii, RedSteel 2 or Monster Hunter Tri?? I dont have to many titles for the wii and would like to build up my collection.
@MrBeJeCa95 That's a tough one. Red Steel 2 is very unique, but Monster Hunter has much more depth and will last you longer. Both are a lot of fun. I'd say maybe Monster Hunter edges of Red Steel.
