Digimon (this applies to all series) is a perfect example of a great anime with a disgustingly awful English dub. The only other show I can think of with a worse English version is when One Piece was dubbed by 4Kids, but at least that got remedied when FUNI took over. No such hope for Digimon, it's depressing really.

@qwertyuiop2661 Okay, Sailor Moon was awful. I haven't actually watched either version myself, but I am aware of what they did to it. As for growing up with Digimon, so did I, then I realized it sucked. Years later, I found the Japanese version, which did not suck. Also, while the music is clearly the worst part of the dub, everything else is bad as well. The voices were lame, the dialogue was stupid, and name changes are always bad. Check Digimon Uncensored for a full comparison of the two.

The song is called I wish and it's by Maeda Ai, who also voiced Mim for the series. At the time, she was still going by her real name, even when singing songs. She started going by AiM in about 2000 or 2001 to avoid confusion with another person with the same name (a model/singer), but only when being credited to the songs she sings. She still goes by her real name when doing voice work.

Anime wise, neither is a rip off of the other. Monster series were just becoming popular at the time. Just like in the mid 80s ('84 rather)...Koalas were becoming popular, and look at what Japan put out that were close together...Fushigi na Koala Blinky (Noozles) and Koala Boy Kokki (Adventures of the Little Koala). In the 90s, Japan put out Yu-gi-oh! and Card Captor Sakura...card games were getting popular.

As much as I prefer Digimon to Pokemon it has to be said Pokemon did come first. Pokemon sprites were first revealed in Gameboy Camera in 1995, while the first Digimon Tamogotchi was released in 1997. Unless Of course I'm mistaken and a Digimon product was released before then. :)
