This is very touching version of this song. Aretha is very moving the way she puts her soul into her songs. I love WH version in her way, Aretha's in her version. Whitney's version doesn't bring much depth to the lyrics and focuses more on just power notes at the end, however Aretha's version brings a lot more meaning to the verses (just listen to how she says "laughter". She drags out the word "used" and then softly sings "to be". No other artist treats things this intricately.

This is very touching version of this song. Aretha is very moving the way she puts her soul into her songs. I love WH version in her way, Aretha's in her version. Aretha caresses the lyrics a lot more than Whitney Houston does. Whitney's version doesn't bring much depth to the lyrics and focuses more on just power notes at the end, however Aretha's version brings a lot more meaning to the verses (just listen to how she says "laughter". She drags out the word "used" and then softly sings "to be". No other artist treats things this intricately.

I would never call Aretha a karaoke singer. After all, would a karaoke singer rack up 20 or so grammy awards, be the first woman inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame, and get ranked #1 as the greatest singer of all time by one of the most recognized musical magazines of all time (Rolling Stone)?
