Looks like the cavitation plate is still in the water judging by the spary, boat and motor looks good, think your right about raising it up. I have a TnT as well, with a 17p prop and a 25hp did 43mph on speedo but it was all over the place, trimed down riding perfect would be high 30s. Have a 40 2 cylinder for it and hoping to pull off 50mph. We will see.
this is awesome I remeber my older brothers having made one in about 1973 with a 28hp johnson then while out boating they met up with two guys that had identical boats with 40hp mercs they just flew those are awesome little boats aw great old memories thanks for posting .
I found the Glen L website about 2 years ago. Fell in love with the look ofthe TNT (and the squirt) and actually bought the plans for the TNT last April. I haven't done anything with them yet & am kinda nervous about it as I haven't ever built anything in my life & have absolutely no wood working experience! Should make things interesting eh? Did you build this yourself?
@gwoloshyn Hey there - thanks for the compliment. Yea, the TNT is alright - you'll find that large waves tend to sneak up on you though which can be somewhat unnerving, and potentially not great for the boat. The 500 is a 50hp yea. Probably more like 40 shaft HP nowadays if that. It shifts alright though. I actually had a 402 on this boat before this motor. If i were you, id make a significant effort to locate a early Japanese 35-40hp with PT&T. Would be perfect for this boat. All the best.
@phraud12345 Hey, my TNT is coming along great. I'm using a 40 hp merc and I'm just wondering if you had to add any extra reinforcement in the transom area for this motor. I'm a bit nervous about the weight this motor is going to be putting on the transom, not to mention when it's running through waves.
@phraud12345 your wrong about the hp now a days the hp rating back then was the way to do it and it got the right amount of hp out the engine and the engines were 5hp underrated so its more like 60hp now a days because the engines of old were underrated and now there over rated i know this because i run old motors and boats all the time every week every day i work on em ect

Nice TNT.. I'm building one right now only in the beginning stages but I have a Merc 402 ready to put on it. Is this Merc 500 a 50 hp?
