  • If you say you're different in a way, a religious conservative would go "what's wrong with you? You need to be cured." Another person would say "People are people".

  • The people pushing for a cure are conservatives who think they're not politically correct. Mr. Cowen appears to be part of the Autistic agenda. I think the older religious right thinks they're possessed by the devil or something, which is incredible to beleive. Sharron Angle and Michael Savage also don't think Autism exists. I think Autism Speaks is sort of like Focus on the Family or NOM. Many (me included) see the latter as hate-mongers who want to get rid of a group of people. Same for former

  • What a great video. Autistic people think better than normal people. They may be different but it's because they are significantly more logical than most people.

  • What a bunch of disgusting and exploitative ideas. The kind of warped humanity-deprived slop I'd expect from someone who speaks at a place such as the Cato Institute.

  • Patronising Jerk.

  • As an autistic who enthusiastically supports neurodiversity and who holds a cosmopolitan worldview, I whole heartedly agree with what Tyler Cowen is saying here.

  • Autism is mercury poisoning, you horse's ass. Stop slinging propaganda!

  • You are delusional...your book needs to go in the trash.

  • I remember over a decade ago when I was in high school. I had a math tutor (my worst subject) and she kept trying to tell me that because I was dyslexic, that I was learning disabled. I disagreed with her on the spot, which of course, set in her ways she did not accept. My argument was that I knew where my limitations were compared to most, but also I saw where I far exceeded most. In fact my IQ rating is quite high, but there are high spikes and then low valleys in different respects.

  • very interesting video, unfortunatly it doesn't load completly. I blame youtube for being incompetent

  • Most highly successful entrepreneurs that I know (including me) have ADD and HA. I can easily absorb huge amounts of dissimilar information and understand the big, longterm picture. On the other hand I have a hard time finishing the little details on a task. Without delegation and a huge dose of technology I would be in trouble.

  • Very insightful.

  • Thats what I needed to hear. I think parents should read his book and think twice before supporting groups like Autism Speaks.

  • We must all be equal, cookie cutter copies of the government overlords preferred type of socialist slave. Differences will not be tolerated. If you mind is wired differently we need to find a way to "fix" it.

  • I don't Autism Speaks is trying to push for complete eradication of people like me, I just think that they base their cause emotionally and not logically. Like Tyler Cowen said, people see autism as a disorder and not as a cognitive advantage. I think AS should focus more of its resources on assistance to families and raise awareness of neuro-diversity. I have aspergers and my brother has ADD, and we turned out to be very successful in out lives, we don't need a cure.

  • @pjfislord

They're like Focus on the Family or National Organization for Marriage, just for Autistic people.

  • Whoa! I was blown away by this presentation. I found it to be extremely interesting.

  • He needs to shave, though. All that facial hair makes him look like George Clooney.

  • Nice, good man.
