hi, i have a question. So i bought a 75 gallon tank, hoping to keep 1 Oscar, 1 blood parrot, 2 pleco's (they are big already) and 2 catfish that are about 6 inchs. I'm running s ehiem 2215 canister filter. Will that cause any problems?
how big and old were your oscars when they laid eggs? I have 2 albino oscars that are 8 1/2 inches. They are about 8 months old.I can't tell if they are male and female.
No i didn't separate them, both parents guarded them and took good care of them. i separated them for their parents when thay were about 1cm. then they had their own tank.
tanks. that's nice that you like them. :) how small are they? i fed my baby oacars with artemia(brine shrimp), and then i started giving them bloodworms at about 0,5-1cm. I have no advice other than that, it has allways worked for me. but if you have only had them for a couple of days, it could be that they still are little scared and needs a little time.
good luck with your oscars, they are lovely fish. And suprisingly they have a big personality. If you begin early you can train them to :)
almost everyday i watch your video. fantastic oscars. i bought 2 recently and they are very small. my 2 red tiger oscars are not eating their bloodworms, cichlid pellets and mealworms. can you advise me what to do?
please help i have posted this video i have 3 oscar fish temperature 28 celcius i give them hikari palets and live bloodworms(only sunday) they are active not behaving vierd please help me are they suffering from any deseaz that i know off...the white spots on the fish looks scary to me please help i clean the gravel once a week and keep the water clean change water 20% every week undergravel filter is attached to,fish eats swims around not a problem just the patches plz.
would they be ok in a 20-29 gallon tank? would u be able to mix tiger oscars wid the albino ones... what do i feed them.. and how many times a week or month
@Kikyo361 29gallon is way too small tank for oscars you need minimum 55gallon for oscar to live happily,u can keep 1 or 3 oscars in a 30gallon till 6months later youll have to sell them or upgrade, remember they are aggresive fish they fight a lot for space small tank will end them killing one onother,i faced the problem i am in a process of upgrading to 15gallon for my 3 oscars they are fine but they fight a lot, so 29 gallon ok keep one or 2 baby oscar till 3 months and than upgrade to 90gallon
@Kikyo361 oscar fish care is not easy you have to maintain lot of water quality, this fish eat a lot they have 13sec of memory so they forget what they eat and make the owner feel that they are hungry wer owner ends up ower feeding them wich adds into waste ammonia level nitrite and nitrate issue,so be carefull, buy the completeset of heater, thermometer(in case heaters not working(backup) usefull), proper lights nice gravel siphon pump undergravel filter, water conditioner....best of luck!!!!
I see you have sand, how is that for cleaning? I have some sand meant for terrariums, but it still looks like it'd be good for aquariums? I'd really like to have a sand bottom, but Im not sure how to clean it (I'm so used to heavier gravel, which doesn't get sucked up in hoses)
I've been wanting to do a sand substrate. Any tips for maintaining and having it in your tank? It's hands down the best looking bottom you can put in a tank!
feul--most of the times u cant tell u just have to buy them young and hope for the best...its sort of hit or miss type of thing...i like the angels in the back...very nice fish ive been breeding blood parrot fish with some success
oscars are chichlids and the chichlid fish are very protective of there babies. most of the time they will gaurd there babies and defend them. both the mom and the dad.
@oren546 not so... a well fed oscar is no more agressive than any other cichlid... infact i think jack dempseys, and firemouths, and convicts are far more aggressive than any oscar. the only time i see oscars really get fiesty is when they are spawning or about to spawn. and thats only to things which come near the nest.
swordplants are the only plant i have ever used with them, works just fine. and the grow fast, so even when the oscars detroy them, they always grow back again.
01 somthing that commet dont you have a fucken brain you can fucken tell by the one laying the eggs not like you dont because you hada fucken sex change tird nice fish
how do you know if you have two oscars that will breed?
I have two oscars about that size and they are happy as can be together but I dont find any eggs anywhere. I think I need to get a rock like that. They have no where to lay eggs.
holy crap i just looked at my tank and i found so many eggs... i have a long tail albino and long tail red oscar.. i wonder what the offsprings are going to be like..

kool thanks but can you give me some tips of how to make oscar food and how do i use the garlic could you give me a resipe oh how did them eggs go, do oscars eat there own babies when hatched or can you just leave them in the tank together
they won't lay eggs on anything besides a flat rock. so, yes, it's for encourage oscar to lay eggs. another great tip is, if you make home made food for them, to put garlic in it. it has a sertant effect. you have to exuse my english, it's not good. but i hope you understand what i mean :)
