  • Hey im going to get a pi swap on my 98gt and my buddy owns a mustang junkyard and i was either gonna get heads from a cobra or a newer stang. Is there a difference? Thanks.

  • yeah their is a difference... they both suck. save your money and get some aluminum of some sort, and you gain so much just with weight, you might never realize. until you get into the game more. they say it takes 50 extra horses just to make up the difference with Iron heads. do it now don't spend time or money, both the same thing, on stock heads of any kind. you'll wish you didn't in the end.

  • Yes, ones a 4v and ones a 2v. Go 2v or you'll have to change your pistons.

  • u cant put cobra heads on a 2v engine. cobra heads are DOHC. you need the PI SOHC heads = 50 more HP!!

  • bbk offroad x pipe and slp lm1's! thats what i had on my 99 cobra and it was beastly. that should get your snake sounding like a true muscle car bro. just beware of cops! haha

  • yeah the aluminum flywheel free's up alot of hp the engine uses to turn the stock heavy one so its a worthwhile modification if your replacing a clutch or just in general.

  • k thanks because i have a 98 mustang gt just like yours but mine is an automatic does it make a difference weather i have a automatic transmission or not? do i have to buy a different flywheel because it is an automatic?

  • Being that your car is an auto you have a flexplate, not a flywheel. If you're thinking trans mods think about a torque converter(higher stall speed) and a shift kit. Lower gears(higher number)for the rearend is one of the best bangs for the buck. I personally like 3.73's. Good all around gear. Hope this helps.

  • it seemed to make a little difference with the flywheel.. those were my only two big modifications thought so with more mods im sure in the long run they would make great improvements.. clutch was a bit too stiff though IMO. otherwise i was pleased. hope that helps

    my advise try your pipes first if its to low.

    then find some one that will take the cat out for you but..

    take my advise keep your cat doode..

  • That'd be awesome if you could get a vid up with your headers on. Longtubes will be my next mod. I'll have to get a new H pipe most likely but oh well. And when I get the exhaust on I will try to get a vid up. I'm hoping it will be on next Friday, but most likely the following week.

  • nice sounding car.the 2000 GT is a good way to go,but why not go with the 4-valve 96-98 SVT Cobra Motor instead? it has better heads,cams,and better breathing intake,and not to mention,makes more power than the 2-valve GT motor with PI heads.305bhp right out of the box,and no modifications to get that number.i used to own a 89,95,97,99-GT Mustang,and now currently have an 05 3-valve GT.of all of those cars mention,i've always liked the looks of the 96-98 GT's,and Cobras.

  • I bought the car with the engine in it, i didnt plan on buying a 2v but at the time i wanted a fox body but loan value was too low, and i couldn't afford insurance on a cobra so i bought this car. my dad has a 98 cobra and the difference is pretty significant once this car is payed off its gone.

  • hey can u jus swap the heads from a 2001gt and put them on the 98gt block.basically are the 98 and the 2000 engine blocks the same to do a swap

  • yeah you should be able to do that, but im pretty sure jegs and summit racing sell the P.I. heads for 96-98gt's and they are only like 800 all together for the kit so your better off doing that im my opinion.

  • I have the same car...not the same mods of course. But a 98 gt. How much did the 00' gt engine cost and would that be better then the 98'?

  • the engine was in the car before i bought it so i can't help you out on the price, but yes it is better than the 98 because in 99 and up 2v gt's they used the P.I. heads which increased hp a bit and raised compression i believe. if you have any more questions let me know.

  • not really sure on that one, i know sometimes too much exhaust flow can decrease hp but i have the loudmouth II on the car now and i haven't noticed a power decrease at all from the I's so whichever you go with you should be in good shape.

  • so far, 2000 GT engine, fidanza 12lb aluminum flywheel, king cobra clutch, bbk cold air intake, underdrive pulleys, off road H pipe, SLP loudmouth, had the car dyno'd when i first bought it with just flowmaster and it put down 250 the the wheels which for a stock 2v wasn't bad, i'd say now she is around 270 or better. hopefully see 300 soon with longtube's and throttle body

  • thats awesome..really nice car..I have the same intake as u. as well as the pulley's. and i have the bbk 75mm throttle body...makes a huuge difference. I would guess for my car to have around the same horsepower..did u ever race yours 1/4 mile?

  • I raced it when it was nearly stock and ran a 14.4 @ 98 mph.. that was with flowmaster dumps, off road H pipe, the 2000 GT engine, and underdrive pulleys so not too bad.

  • haha shit man..i ran a 14.5 @ 95 mph..so they sound pretty close. supercharger should bring her to life!

  • from a mustang guy to a mustang guy forget the tb. they do pretty much nothin. go with intake. but for a higher increase inpower go with some cams. throttle bodies are a waste of money unless your not n/a
