@bluesmann8 With my alnicos I notice a difference on the attack at any volume..moreso when pushed because of compression but still the softer attack is there at all volumes.The notes seem to bounce at you.
@bluesmann8 Yeah, and that ever-present YouTube compression and the fact that it was recorded with a mobile phone, but, all in all, a pretty decent example of how it sounds at bedroom levels.
@bluesmann8 Well, that sustain and enhanced dynamics is why I chose Celestion Gold over the top speaker. No comp here! A funny thing - stock speaker is a bit muddy on the bass side but harsh on the highs, while Gold is generally brighter with enhanced dynamics, even though the basses are not ultra-tight. But, the Gold still has tighter bass than blue...8-)
I have been playing for 37 years and I have just recently heard the term regarding a speaker as "Broken In". What do you mean by that? Do you mean that you have changed the oil in the cranck? LOL, don't get me wrong, I just wonder...
I haven't had a problem with cone cry in celestions generally speaking, but every single vintage 30 I've ever owned (about 8 total) has had horrid cone cry on one or two notes... broken in and new, uk and chinese made, various cabs and amps... I'm done with vintage 30's! But I still love many celestion models... like the gold! Thinking or puting a glod and a g12h30 in my Boogie Maverick... mmmmm...

Sounds great, but how does it sound with the amp on about 6 or 7? I have a '66 that I push hard with a Nocaster for rockabilly. Need a spk yesterday and I have access to Celestion Golds in town. You have a great tone though!
highdb1, I will soon record new clips, now that the speaker has been broken in and all. I will also record samples with Ts-9 so people can hear the difference between the stock speaker and the gold. Crunch is not fizzy and harsh anymore, there are more harmonics and a slight amount of compression that rounds off those picky highs into sweet sustain...stay tuned
Great tone out of that amp. I was thinking about upgrading to that speaker. I play a telecaster with Joe Barden pickups. Does it give you that ice pick in the ear sensation when playing thru the Back Pick up like the stock speaker?
hi! tnx for your comment. This speaker tames brights better than the stock speaker, sound is more balanced and compressed at the top end, so treble is smoother and more pleasant to the ear
What song are you playing here?

@stretch90 Nothing in particular, just fiddlin around Knockin on heaven's doors, but very loosely...

@denmar1998
"cone cry" tends to happen to new Celestions, disappears after a few hours' playing.
