@F3lixMjamjar That's actually the reason I was watching this. I'm a guitar player and have seen a LOT of glass cutting videos that involve either a) too much professional glass cutting gear b) too much left to chance with "maybe you'll get a clean break." A word on bottles for guitar slides: try to find a seamless bottle neck, as a seamless glass will provide a 100% playable surface. A bottle with a corked top (not screw on) will provide more glass for your slide (i.e. wine bottles).
You do NOT know how to cut glass. WD40 is USELESS. Your cut was not level. I guess you learned about water displacement when you went from the clear cold water container to a much larger bucket!
Hello Dude. It has been six months since you made a comment on Youtube.
I like your video. Maybe I will try it myself. I think that you should make another video where you cut 3 bottles in a row. I have the feeling that your system works 90% of the time or more. The other bottle cutting videos do not look convincing. In that next video just cut, cut and cut. No need for sanding. I would like you to know that you are a good calm teacher. Never mind the negative comments. Do not stop now!
@anonbud Oh we are morons are we? Well then how is it that my glass bottle cutting gets an edge so clean it only takes about 20-30 seconds to sand down while this guy's takes about 20-30 minutes? What he does not realize is that his candle flame is much too intense and far too concentrated to get a clean cut. Bottle cutting is about control not intensity. The greater the temperature change he less controlled the cracking is and the more jagged the cut. The only heat you need is boiling water.
@MrAwsome514 I'm interested in making my own guitar slides using seamless wine bottles. Would you please make a video showing your method (or provide a link to a clip of someone doing what you've described)? When you mention boiling water, do you mean to let the bottle crack off while being submerged in the water, or should you transfer from hot to cold, then back and forth until you get a break? Any insight would be of great value, so thanks in advance.
@HankLafayette Basically you take a standard glass cutting tool and make a score line around where you want to cut. Then you slowly pour hot or boiling water over the score line trying only to heat the actual line it's self. Once you feel it is hot enough dip it in some ice cold water and if it has been done properly it should just break free.
hey, thanks for all the people interested in my video. The glass cutter I used was just a cheap £2 cutter from a DIY store. I scored the bottle quite a lot. I did it till there was quite a deep line all the way round the glass, otherwise the cracks go anywhere on the bottle. Hope this helps.
So what kind of cutter is that? Diamond? Or just a cheap regular one? I tried this last night but it didnt work. The bottle cracked all over the place when I put it into water. How many times do you rotate the bottle? Great video!
Thanks so much had a bunch of bawls bottles I wanted to do this with and the glass cutter kept slipping also tried the string and lighter trick with nail polish remover it failed.. =/ but this looks genuinely like it works.
- I am from newcastle, so i have geordie accent, however the start of the video is a poor impersonation of an american accent which i failed at miserably haha
really useful. I take it the same wouldvapply if i wanted to make a guitar slide...
