  • I ever saw that Who Framed Roger Rabbit

  • I remember being so pissed that they changed it from the old one to this crappy one. The original was the best!!

  • i miss working for General Cinema i loved the popcorn bob? anyone else.

  • Whatever happened to the blue sky intro trailer?

  • @RacerXGTO That came later; around 86 I believe.

  • i worked at a general cinema in redondo beach calif. from 1988 to 1990. saw a lot of free movies. great memories. i met a girlfriend there

  • Another great GCC memory, and of a time that will never be again. Thanks for posting this!

  • proves to everyone that the graphics from the eighties were far more superior then CGI, and catchier too!! why wasn't i around in the eighties?

  • The GCC bumper was like Michael Buffer saying "let's get ready to rumble" before a fight. A reminder that you were going to experience something special. Going to the movies doesnt seem as magical as did when I was a kid....I miss this cheesy fucking theme!

  • Didn't The Secret of Nimh and Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer use this 1980 General Cinema logo?

  • No, the projector stopped working!

  • There was such a buzz when theybuilt the one here inside the mall durrung the late '70s. I first saw the Jungle Book there, and lastly Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets. It closed down shortly after.

  • remember seeing Star 80 with this one.....

  • Okay now everyone be quiet, Return of the Jedi's about to start...

  • I remember this being the one used from the early 80s onward. I remember how disappointed I was in the way they changed it. It didn't have the drums or the dots coming out of the projector. There is no beating the 70s version!

  • There was a GCC Cinema IN the Plymouth Meeting Mall that ran between 1966 through 1996. I saw E.T., Romancing the Stone, The Jewel of the Nile, The Flintstones, and lastly, A Very Brady Sequel. All had THIS intro prior to the movie.

  • Those little flashes were made on a Tesla coil (Those who said "On a WHAT?" check Wikipedia.).

That same effect was used earlier in the first Star Trek movie (1979) for the alien ship's weapon.

  • If I can remember correctly, I saw this bumper when my family and I went to the cinemas in Joliet, Ill to see E.T. and/or Return of the Jedi.

  • It sounds Japanese to me

  • Saw this before Disney's the Jungle Book in the early 1980s at the old Jamestown theater before the 14 screen one was built.

  • Wow, memories of the theatre in the Mall, the popcorn popped in the deadly (But oh so delicious) palm kernel gel (or whatever that orange goo was..) Civilization before things got TOO techie. Lol!

  • @zhlub4321

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>"Civilization before things got TOO techie."

There's nothing wrong with being too techie, you idiot! How f***in' dare you want to stop the progression of technology! Go back to the '30s. Dumbass.

  • Yup, that's the one I remember

  • Man I remember when I was a kid there used to be a General Cinema in its own little building next to the local mall. This brings back memories! I remember I saw Back to the Future there, and Spies Like Us, Enemy Mine, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Project X, Little Shop of Horrors... ahh, the 80s!

  • @ravegods last movie i saw at one was x-men. i was 16 and could finally apply for jobs, and the next day i turned it in? they were closed down.

  • @mrzero1982 Yeah AMC aquired General Cinema in 1999 I believe.

  • Really cheesy!

  • I remember this!!

  • I vaguely remember this version too. I mostly recall the version in the '70s before this.

  • I remember seeing this before Return of the Jedi. General Cinema wasn't very conspicuous with their branding back in the day. Their theaters around Minneapolis just had a generic "CINEMA I II III IV" for their signage.

  • The Cinema I, II, II and so forth was what fascinated (sp?) me about the GCC theaters.

  • Ah, I remember seeing that all the time back in the 80's. Dig that "bow-chika-wow-wow" music, as though an adult movie is about to play or something. :)

At least in the days when this logo was shown, you knew the actual movie was about to start, rather than have to suffer through 10 minutes of commercials and trailers.

  • how can i download this for my home theatre

  • Actually, the Space Candy trailer, and its corresponding GCC logo design (letters in the blue circle) were introduced in 1986.

  • Try 1983 - the space candy trailer was shown on the first day of Return of the Jedi - I skipped school to see it - over the years, my friends and I would yell: "GOAL!" when the drink cup hit the trash can.

  • Return of the Jedi still used the 1980 General Cinema logo. The only way it could have used the 1986 GCC logo is if it got a rerelease to movie theaters in 1988.

  • I totally forgot about this version of the "mad drummer" music. Thanks for posting it!

  • What month was this 1980 General Cinema logo first used?

  • just excellent!!!!!!!! i've been humming this theme since 1981!! we had 2 general cinemas here in joliet, il. one was at the louis joliet mall, and the other one was at the jefferson square mall.....ah, memories...going to see movies as a young kid at those cinemas make me hark back to the good old days of watching movies in a theater... nowadays, folks are too damn pampered by all of the new shit to get ud into the theaters!!!

  • I was either in Louis Joliet Mall or Jefferson Square when I saw this, too! Small world!! LOL

  • so was I!!! the early 80's ruled!!
