How to make Battlefield 2/2142 machinima movies!

oh i found out why the vids i record only last for a few seconds. if you are trying to film a war battle (i could only use the battlerecorder when no one else was on the map), and one of your teammates die in the film, it will close automatically for some reason. so, does anyone know the solution to this problem, or if i want to record war machinimas, do i have to go in game (as in to play a demo via community tab) to make war vids?

@Fabivaca It should be openable by some universal media players. Try winamp or VLC media player. Your editing software shouldn't have much trouble with it.

hey, i got it, and i found our that you cant record online if your not the host (from my experience) and i can only record single player. also, i was playing single player and i typed into the console thing demo.recorddemo and it started recording. i left it recording for a while then i stoped it, then i viewed it with the director thing and it only recorded a few seconds... also how do you pause it? pleaz help me answer all of these problems like how to record online without bieng host! il sub

@camycamera Hey! I think that you can only record in a online server if the host enabled recording on the server, otherwise only the admin can do it. Also, there are a few controls when playing back in director. For those I recommend battledirector help, because I don't really remember them.

The sounds are (most likely) copyrighted. Be careful using them in videos.

Hmm. have you checked your virusscanner/firewall?

Make sure it's unticked, then you can use Q and T.

Hmm.... that's very odd, I'd think it's a map problem or something? Does the map function normally in BF2?

I wouldn't use camtasia studio for gaming records. It has proved to be very unstable for me. Also, xfire is decent, but the sound recording sucks, and you have way less options.

This method is battlefield only. Maybe there are other methods for other games, I don't know.

Not sure. BattleDIRECTOR doesn't, but battleRECORDER may work. Try pressing the ~ key and typing demo.recorddemo. If that works, I can help you out how to process them without BD ;-)

Alright where do I download battleRECORDER? and did you make that lil video at the end or was it already pre-made?

Battlerecorder comes with BF (2 and 2142 at least). It records demo files you can playback later as a spectator, thus allowing you to record movies =D

The movie in the end is the trailer/beginning movie for the BF2 expansion/mod Special Forces by EA itself. I'm not THAT good lol, but if you want to see what I made check out my profile ;-)

When in-game press the ~ key (to the left of the 1 key) and type in demo.recorddemo.

If that works, battlerecorder works with 1942.

Yup, only when you want to quit recording you don't type demo.recorddemo but demo.stoprecording,

and the program in the tut doesn't work with BF1942.
