The Bible was not written in chronological order. The Book of Mormon is simply Another Testament to Jesus Christ. @hammerogod I think if people do something out of a pure desire to receive from God, they aren't coming from the right place. But many people do good deeds out of pressure, that isn't to say once they've done those good deeds that their hearts haven't been softened and their intent changed.
God knows where our hearts are, so he can't be bought. We have to come to him and submit. Sometimes giving isn't easy, and that's why blessings are ensured, because he knows how hard it might be for us.
Even if it was that long ago, doesn't that clearly show a mistake on part of your church leaders? If they can be that incorrect how can you trust them on other things? It isn't as if they have anything other than their credibility to go on when the make claims, since they have no proof, just their word. When a scientist makes a claim he brings evidence, so it doesn't matter he's been wrong before. That's different with people making supernatural claims.

@parkerthehicks Well thats what I have been taught by the religion, I didn't come to the conclusion myself. I finally found the scripture I marked, Alma 3: 7. Oh! And verse 8 explains why Laman and Lemuel were given black skin. Because they fathered/led the entire Lamanite nation, and because they misled their entire nation to continually try to bring down the gospel with lies and false ideas, they were made black so the faithful Nephites could tell them apart and avoid believing in the lies.

The Mormons made their 'own bible', the Book of Mormon, which the bible says not to add to it. This book is obviously an additon to GOD'S WORD! They quote from it the same as scripture. READ the LAST PAGE of the bible at Revelation 22:18,19. It says this is the END of GOD'S WORD and gives STIFF warnings NOT to add or take away any of it's contents. @eternityandforever I hope you know that the book of Revelation was the first book written by John. He wrote his other stuff AFTER he wrote Revelation. The Bible was not written in chronological order. The Book of Mormon is simply Another Testament to Jesus Christ. It reaffirms the fact that God lives, it doesn't change or add anything about the Gospel. God loves us and he cares about each and every one of us. Joseph Smith was not a liar or a fraud. I know this to be true.

@GordonPlusCrowbar Your statement is backed up completely by Rev. 1:30 and 1:11. John is very specific about which "book" he is referring to. Additionally, the Bible (which most christians forget) is not one book, but many. The term Bible coming from "bibilos", meaning many books.
They also ignore Deut 12:32 and Prov. 30:6.

@hammerogod I grew up LDS, however I am not a practicing member, though I have no ill will towards the LDS faith or church.. to say that it is that they receive "favor" of G-d like they hold it over people is wrong. Most LDS people are not wealthy. I didn't grow up wealthy so I cannot account for those that are "snobs" or have hardened their hearts. But for my family, blessings would happen when we would do charitable works or fast and pray for help from our Father in Heaven, and we praised him

Malachi 3:10 does support the concept of giving with an expectation of "Blessings".
I know that God blesses those who honor Him so I am ok with thinking that the things we do will bring a gain, but it may not be wealth.
I am NOT ok with the concept that God's favor can be bought.
If we are doing it with the sole purpose of gaining favor we fail.
God has already promised us "Unmerited" favor.

@hammerogod I think if people do something out of a pure desire to receive from God, they aren't coming from the right place. But many people do good deeds out of pressure, that isn't to say once they've done those good deeds that their hearts haven't been softened and their intent changed.
God knows where our hearts are, so he can't be bought. We have to come to him and submit. Sometimes giving isn't easy, and that's why blessings are ensured, because he knows how hard it might be for us.

Even if it was that long ago, doesn't that clearly show a mistake on part of your church leaders? If they can be that incorrect how can you trust them on other things? It isn't as if they have anything other than their credibility to go on when the make claims, since they have no proof, just their word. When a scientist makes a claim he brings evidence, so it doesn't matter he's been wrong before. That's different with people making supernatural claims.

The sins of the fathers does not pass down to their children. There is a difference between black skin and the sin they made. Heredity is why there are others with black skin. The curse is not black skin, otherwise I would have said they were cursed WITH black skin. The curse is being cut off from God's presence, and only the one who sinned is.

@parkerthehicks Well thats what I have been taught by the religion, I didn't come to the conclusion myself. I finally found the scripture I marked, Alma 3: 7. Oh! And verse 8 explains why Laman and Lemuel were given black skin. Because they fathered/led the entire Lamanite nation, and because they misled their entire nation to continually try to bring down the gospel with lies and false ideas, they were made black so the faithful Nephites could tell them apart and avoid believing in the lies.

Because of this, they didn't have the curse that Laman and Lemuel did, well, except for those that knew what the true religion was, and still rebelled. The mark of black skin was to make sure that more would not be misled at that time.

It is true that it can be akward sometimes for LDS missionaries and the people who are near them, not necessarily because they are bad, but because many people don't like to talk about spiritual things. He is just saying its akward sometimes for people to meet them. However, this is not always the case, but it happens.

This quote is one of many accomplishing this and is not a statement condemning interracial marriage though at the time, that mindset was prevalent among whites and blacks.
