I'm trying to get TVNZ to screen a classic Telethon around Xmas/New Years and I have a Facebook group to try and get the numbers needed to do just that.
Just do a search for the "Bring Telethon To TVNZ Heartland This Christmas" group.
best thing was back then we wouldn't have seen this on TV here in Southland we saw the Telethon events that were going on in Dunedin instead. The new Telethon that was on 3 last year just showed the same thing across all of NZ so we had to watch Auckland all day.
Actually it was a Marmite Jar. I wonder if it was the 500 gram size or the 750 gram size?. It would have been worth watching Peter Sinclair go one on one with Mr Slave from South Park. I wonder if he could have stuffed a Hamster in the Marmite Jar and therefore beaten Mr Slave ?. The story is true, the silly wanker had to have it surgically removed from his poo tube. I always thought that if he didn't succed in Television that he would have become a Catholic Priest.
Marmite Jar??? Yep, tooth Fairy lives too! Gay or not, a good man who is iconic in NZ history. Muldoon the little pig has lots to answer for with his inuendos to the likes of Gerald O'Brien and Colin Moyle the horrible little bastard born September 25.
I remember the one, maybe 81 , 82 when "Dog Breath" from Hill St Blues came out and he cried at the generousity of us (kiwis) i always felt the same. always out did last year, always beat the target.
Peter Sinclair was my neighbour, and my old girlfriends Mum was a nurse at Auckland Hosp who did confirm that he had a procedure to have "something" removed. He was great tho aye.
I always got tingly inside with the Telethons. Nowadays I'm looking for a clip of those times whenever the Telethons reached a milestone amount and everyone started line dancing and singing "Thank you very much for your kind donations [snip, can't recall exact wording] thank you very very very very very much!"
i absolutely agree. people making teevee for nothing, having to be as entertaining as it can to raise as much money as possible for charity. it's like televised busking. but are we too closed and secular nation these days for a telethon to really go off like they did back then?
sparkie, have some respect and do some research, thanks
