Part of me is glad that they made two more to explore more ideas and show more action and such, but part of me feels that the first film might have worked best to just end it right there.

I think the sequels (Star Wars/Matrix) seem so bad because the originals were sooo good. The other Matrix films had their moments, but as in all trilogys, they had to tell a backstory and tell a conclusion. The original Star Wars and the original Matrix were so mindblowing and original, that anything else that followed was doomed to be considered below average.

The ending of this movie reminds me of the ending of Being There. Neo suddenly flying away totally reminds me of Peter Sellers suddenly walking across the water.

This was extra-awesome before the sequels, before we knew Neo could fly and stuff... really added to the "Whoa, wtf?" factor.

The problem was that they didn't go the way we expected them to. The first was amazing cuz it was revolutionary The transformation of Neo as a regular guy into a Superman-esque figure was dramatic.

SO when the sequels came out, we thought they were gonna do so much more with Neo doing stuff IN the Matrix itself. But after they started fighting in the mechanical "real" world it got boring. It had none of the psychological aspects of the first.
