There is no "better" when you compare a single turbo to a twin turbo. It all depends on the application as well.
Twin turbo setups come in two types: Parallel and sequential. Parallel is when you have two turbos and they both spool and peak at the same time in regards to air flow. Sequential is when you have a primary and a secondary turbo. This was in the Supras. the primary turbo is always working at low RPMs with low boost pressure. The secondary activates at higher rpm for....
continued.... full eventually attaining full boost, which yields full horsepower and torque (eventually).
As for the Z twin turbo, it had a parallel setup. Each turbo did the same exact thing at the same exact time. In simple terms, each turbo had the same role in providing boost as each other.
How do I know this? Well, my first car was a Z twin turbo. I was 21 and could not afford the keep it back then.

@Denmark1534 depends on the set up i would rather run one big 45 psi turbo rather that a twin havin to run all the pipes lol. the zx twin turbo only pushes 14 psi 7 psi for one its not a big amount but it will for sure get up but a single turbo eclipse or supra pushes about 16 psi i would rather go with one big turbo

it's true, but as above - on setups with each turbo running a bank of cylinders to themselves there is no benefit to running a big single over 2 smaller turbos which yeild similar bhp figures. On a supra its a seq. setup so 1 turbo is a sound enough idea as you'd have to get the ratio of small/large turbos correct if staying twin. On a 300, you'd be daft to go for a big T60+ over 2x GT25's/28's. Not to mention the manifold room issues. Hope this helps :)

it's personal decision, because the vg30 v6 i would prefer 2 big twin turbos in it , but in a motor like the rb or the 2jz i prefer one huge turbo.
