As for pregnant mothers and the suicidal, I can understand why they not only should not want to test them, but should not be able too. I don't know for sure, but I seriously doubt all of the drug interactions with other drugs are only found out through trial and error on patients being treated.
Furthermore, I think there would be major grounds for lawsuits if it were found that those drugs were never tested for harmful side-effects when taken with other drugs. In other words, I really doubt that they don't do any testing of that kind.

There are so many "mental illnesses" and whatnot popping up every day like weeds in your grass along with the drugs that go with them and even more so, the side effects that go with them. Some side effects include suicide. Nothing you can do once you're dead. Is that the cure you seek? If so, be my guest. And also, you get one side effect from a drug which means you have to take a drug for that and then you get a side effect from that second drug and have to take a drug for that!

I'm 46 and bipolar ( as it is called today) and have been since 3 (far back as I can remember), I am also ADHD.... several times I was put on drugs (by force) and hated them. Now aerobic exercise is the ONLY way for me to fight off depression... Running, bicycling, fast dancing (for hours) and fast swimming.. But the kind of life that includes these natural anti-depression is very UN-American... I wonder why?

My mother was physically dragged into mental hospitals (early 1960s), fed with valium which was removed after her 'rest in hospital'. She suicided in 1965, two years after the withdrawal effects of valium were known. Last year a neighbour stopped his anti-depressants and three days later he jumped; splat.

I was on fluoxitine then citalopram and now clomipramine all tryn to help ocd and other probs so far i havnt found any benifit and the drug im on now im on 250mg and i just feel sedated and sick most of the day, ive been debating with myself whether or not these actualy do anything or there just to dumb down the nation, also they make me more paranoid than if i wasnt on them so im very suspicious of the drug industry and VERY suspicious of our goverment. Hello there. I have mental illness passed down from my mother. I have been through H*LL with psychiatrists who misdiagnosed me with ADD and Bipolar. I read about holistic herbal doctors and I tried one. She said I had an eating disorder and anxiety which made sense and prescibed herbs and vitamins and food. I went to a holistic psychiatrist who gave me medication for panic attacks. I am much better and stable now. GO TO A HOLISTIC DOCTOR AND MD.
definitely try some herbal remedies. there's lots of stuff out there that the FDA doesn't want you to know about so that big companies can keep making their money. my boyfriend has heart disease and coronary artery disease which caused him to have severe chest pains. I agree that some things need to be changed, but many of the things you mentioned are a trade-off and there is no real answer. For example: While it is true that a longer trial will be more sensitive, it would obviously delay the benefit of the drug to patients.
What length of trial do you propose and why?
If these issues are frequently mentioned in the news as you say, then people are aware of the problem and your video serves no purpose. Offer some solutions.
Yea, what I really propose is the model for evidence based medicine be revised so that epidemiological data be considered the gold standard and not the clinical trial.
I would also propose that ALL conflicts of interest be removed from clinical trials.
I would also propose the exclusion criteria for clinical trials not be more limited than the population the drug is going to be prescribed for, i.e. the study group should be a true random sample of the population the drugs are marketed to.
I personally think all conflicts of interest should be eliminated from the NIH and that all clinical trials which are used by the FDA as evidence for drug approval, be limit

I don't know for sure, but I seriously doubt all of the drug interactions with other drugs are only found out through trial and error on patients being treated.
Furthermore, I think there would be major grounds for lawsuits if it were found that those drugs were never tested for harmful side-effects when taken with other drugs. In other words, I really doubt that they don't do any testing of that kind.

I have to question the accuracy of this report mainly due to the fact that drugs are put into a PDR, which is pretty much the official encyclopedia of drugs for prescribing doctors to use. One of the parts of that is description contra-indications of a particular drug, many of which are the taking of specific other drugs.
Doctors will often, if not primarily use this book to ensure that a drug they prescribe is not going to interfere or cause harm with another drug.

Some people are more prone to improve due to the placebo effect and pharma companies want a "washout" of those types of people to skew the clinical trial in favor of the efficacy of their drug.
I have also read that some important adverse reactions like akathisia are altered in the reports and are mislabeled as "agitation" or "depression".

the fda protects our corporate masters. pharmaceutical companies, ie Pfizer for example, and health insurance corporations, like cigna. An example, marijuana is illegal because it is medicine that can be produced in mass at home, it is cheap and it works. you can't put a patent on it so they can't control it. There are so many "mental illnesses" and whatnot popping up every day like weeds in your grass along with the drugs that go with them and even more so, the side effects that go with them. Some side effects include suicide. Nothing you can do once you're dead. Is that the cure you seek? If so, be my guest. And also, you get one side effect from a drug which means you have to take a drug for that and then you get a side effect from that second drug and have to take a drug for that!

I just read a study a few weeks ago showing 12 weeks of tai chi was about 30% more effective in treating chronic pain than conventional therapy.
Many drug trials for long term disease states incorporate diet and exercise changes into the study, because they are considered mainstays of therapy.

A trial for a new drug not only has to show a beneficial effect above placebo, but it also must have enough participants to prove that the difference is statistically significant. You are absolutely right about drug interactions, they are a big deal and under-recognized. Find yourself a good pharmacist you trust and ask them questions.

It's important to note that prescribers are drawn to drug products with clinical trials that back their products use in a diverse population. That is to say, they have more broad inclusion criteria. So products whose trials had more restrictive inclusion criteria or less extensive safety data are often passed up by prescribers in favor of drugs with more evidence. So there is competition among companies to provide good trial data.

It's also important to put risk into perspective with the disease states present. If you are healthy, clinical trial design is much less tolerant of drug risk. If you have a terminal illness, obviously patients are willing to take on more risk for a chance at life.
Most of us in healthcare don't support direct-to-consumer (DTC) drug advertising. I think it would be easier to ban DTC advertising and disband DDMAC to save taxpayer money and reduce conflicts of interest.

Now aerobic exercise is the ONLY way for me to fight off depression... Running, bicycling, fast dancing (for hours) and fast swimming.. My mother was physically dragged into mental hospitals (early 1960s), fed with valium which was removed after her 'rest in hospital'. She suicided in 1965, two years after the withdrawal effects of valium were known. Last year a neighbour stopped his anti-depressants and three days later he jumped; splat.

Kevin Trudeau has all the data and research that says drugs are poisons, designed to make these billion dollar a year companines richer. If you make and research a drug you and your company have bias. The principle behind a drug is the old lady who swallowed a fly. You give someone a drug, they have a side effect, you give them a drug for that and they have another side effect and so on while botching your liver in the process.

I dont believe that ANY of those drugs are looked as "Safe" by the FDA. I believe that certain drugs that are not safe are put out on the market because by the time the drug causes a death or illness, the company has made millions and millions of dollars and can afford the law suits , if any that come with the "safe drug".So they knowingly release these drugs out in the market. I was on fluoxitine then citalopram and now clomipramine all tryn to help ocd and other probs so far i havnt found any benifit and the drug im on now im on 250mg and i just feel sedated and sick most of the day, ive been debating with myself whether or not these actualy do anything or there just to dumb down the nation, also they make me more paranoid than if i wasnt on them so im very suspicious of the drug industry and VERY suspicious of our goverment. Hello there. I have mental illness passed down from my mother. I have been through H*LL with psychiatrists who misdiagnosed me with ADD and Bipolar. I read about holistic herbal doctors and I tried one. She said I had an eating disorder and anxiety which made sense and prescibed herbs and vitamins and food. I went to a holistic psychiatrist who gave me medication for panic attacks. I am much better and stable now. GO TO A HOLISTIC DOCTOR AND MD.

definitely try some herbal remedies. there's lots of stuff out there that the FDA doesn't want you to know about so that big companies can keep making their money. my boyfriend has heart disease and coronary artery disease which caused him to have severe chest pains. I started buying him natural products [mostly in the form of high antioxidant rich foods] and he hasn't really had a problem with it since.
the HEALTHY way, is the natural way.

I agree that some things need to be changed, but many of the things you mentioned are a trade-off and there is no real answer. For example: While it is true that a longer trial will be more sensitive, it would obviously delay the benefit of the drug to patients.
What length of trial do you propose and why?
If these issues are frequently mentioned in the news as you say, then people are aware of the problem and your video serves no purpose. Offer some solutions.

Yea, what I really propose is the model for evidence based medicine be revised so that epidemiological data be considered the gold standard and not the clinical trial.
I would also propose that ALL conflicts of interest be removed from clinical trials.
I would also propose the exclusion criteria for clinical trials not be more limited than the population the drug is going to be prescribed for, i.e. the study group should be a true random sample of the population the drugs are marketed to.
