Record using Dxtory onto an separate internal hdd with at least 7200rpm, or use solid state drives, this will reduce lag and help with the rendering in the editor :)

Tip for people watching. If you attempt an island or other landmass that requires an ocean, you can develop the ocean floor and top surface before you add the water. In this way you can use the erode tool and everything else to make it look more "natural". Afterwards you can select up to 64 height or what ever your water height is and then do a replace air with still water. Im sure Vechz knows this, so for those watching..just a little tip. Go into task manager, then click on processes. Right click main.exe, and set its priority to REALTIME... it makes McEdit go much faster--I was able to save 230 chunks in five minutes with an atom processor and 1 gig of Ram ;)

Only if u have other programs up at the same time. It isn't recommended if you have chrome up, per say, or fraps. But if it is just McEdit, it wont screw it up at all because it is merely changing the priority so that the CPU pays more attention to it than anything else.

I'm a total noob, but I thought I'd give 2 tips for MCEdit:

Ctrl+A to select all, should help for the beginning setup where you need sheets of stone and water.

Ctrl+S to save and Ctrl+R to reload: Useful whenever the editor isn't cooperating in the chunks it chooses to load, since it'll start loading from the center. Of course, if you don't Ctrl+S, it'll reload to the last time you saved, so be careful :p

when you talked about ore distribution I loved it. I have thought about that before and wanted to actually have mines for resources. The game pretty much says that diamond only forms really deep down but I have found it at Herkimer Diamond mines above sea level.

Pretty awesome tutorial. My experience with MCEdit has been limited to things like deleting entities that crash the game when playing with buggy mods, but I've been intrigued by its capabilities and might even dabble in map making.

I'd love to see some more infotainment like this, dealing with MCEdit's nuances and map-making theory.

there is a bukkit plugin called voxelsniper, imho its better then MCedit because you're actually doing it directly in the game and its easier to use, faster and more natural looking :)

Hi Vechs, I'm also making a map inspired by this video and the Super Hostile series. I'm currently in the process of creating the first large area but the forester script doesn't seem to be working in the newest MCEdit test build. Also, I find that the brush tool tends not obey the % chance that I select and replaces all the blocks within the selection. I'm just wondering which MCEdit version you are using currently and whether you are experiencing the same problems.
