Every generation had it's share of bad music, the 90s had it's share of crappy music. I don't think music today is as bad as people make it out to be, and I too am getting tired of people saying todays music sux on every old song video I go on. Sheesh, give it a rest already, I've been here this shit for 5 years now.
this problem is easy to fix listen to good music and stop letting the radios play garbage, if enough people show request better music quality then the commercialized music eventual they will stat to play it. and the main stream that follows what ever is hot will start to listen. and stop going on videos that garbage cuase it give them views and thats what the corporations goes by
exactly just have to look for it! the mainstream has some good shit but U want something more check out the magazines and read the reviews of artists you never heard of thats how I heard of artists I never heard of before.
I know kids have to play this old skool stuff to hear some realness!! I have to keep going back to hear some sense and remember what keeps me getting up in the morning to go forward!! Ambition is key kids trust me
oh damn, i haven't heard this song in over a decade. when some of these people listening to this now was still singing "i love you, you love me" from barney!
Tupac always rapped about the same thing. Had good music but too repetitive. Nas always had variety. He can rap about anything and everything. He's a true lyricist. I am tired of seeing Tupac is the best rapper. NO he is NOT!
In all honesty, Hip Hop music hasn't been a potent MOVEMENT for at least 20 years. Theres been a few good albums that have emerged, but theres a reason Common's "I U.S.E.D to love her" was so relevant in 94'. To be honest, there are only a small handful of actual dope mc's in the history of the game. Hip Hop has alot of pretender's. All I know is when the smoke clears, names like Rakim, Nas, Wu-Tang will always reign supreme as true God's, nah mean.

cant fukin stand every time someone says "y cant it be like this anymore.wat happen to good music?" understand something people.thats exactly wat the old heads were saying about this shit when i was coming up in the 90's.every generation says that about the younger one's music.wat do you think the disco generation was saying about hip hop wen i was coming up?wat do you think my dad was saying about 80's music?
@llosllos78 That may be true, but even then music still had some form of substance to it aside from the Vanilla Ices and MC Hammers of the world, now the radio, tv, mainstream altogether is full of Vanilla Ices and MC Hammers. I don't care what anyone says, music and all forms of entertainment are in a scary place right now, talent is becoming more and more rare as the days go by man.
@chinabin123 That's my point though, you shouldn't have to search for talent, it should be flooded and celebrated on every television, radio, and website... Not tucked away and over looked when the mainstream continues to be overrun with trash. Fans have become spoiled with getting new music regularly from an artist who has to rush the process to produce to the command for the product in stead of taking a year or however long needed to put some true work into the music, shit's sad.
@jacksonjaryn Exactly. MTV was playing great Hip-Hop from the late-80s to early-00s because the material was GOOD. Does anybody really think B.I.G.'s "Juicy" would crossover in today's music world the way it did in 1994? It was a Top40 hit back then! think about it.
Hip-Hop is in trouble right now if we have to resort to the underground scene to find the good stuff when only 10-15 years ago there was still good mainstream rap getting airplay. There's my argument.
@LaLaGrunge I agree biggie would not be as popular today. Look up gorilla black , looks and sounds like biggie, people have no idea about him. People don't listen for talent anymore, just things they can relate and dance to.
@jacksonjaryn can't agree with you more man...corporate mainstream has ruined music...no more originality, no creativity, no soul....its all a bunch of materialistic simple minded nonsense...people talking about liquor cars and bitches...no substance for a real rap fan to relate to...90's was the best era of hip hop no doubt about it
@llosllos78 I think theres enough younger underground heads keepin it real... Little brother, Kazi, Shad, Talib Kweli even its just everytime you flip on the TV you see young joc, lil wayne, Drake and all the other garbage ass rappers that sound like retards. I agree though, there are some real heads rappin they just never make it to mainstream... thats the difference between now and then IMO.
@llosllos78 - Honestly, as the years go on and new era's come in people only remember the good things. The bad music just gets erased from their memories, so that whole "why isn't music like this anymore" is just like a reflex. Not everything from these new years is garbage, but the bad does tend to out weight the good in a lot of aspects. A majority of artists these days are able to make it with less talent, which does kill the quality of today's music. (IE: Lil B, OJ da juiceman, etc.)
My name Is Rohain Arora and I am A Canadian Rapper

@llosllos78 True but I'm from this generation and believe 80s/90s is far better music than now for several reasons. Most people saying this are younger guys cause 90% of modern music lacks the passion/vibe of older music.
Anyway nice sick beat, heard it on a mixtape thing but never knew where it was from, good to find it!
@llosllos78 You're right to an extent, but c'mon the artistic standards across the board is in the shit house now more than it's ever been, nd it's not only in HipHop, we're living in an era where down right awful to mediocre is celebrated nd put up on pedestals, so there is no longer any impetus to be great, there was a time when u actually had to have skills not only to get a record deal but to become a star especially in HipHop, Kim Khardashian is a major star with no artistic ability
I agree with Jacksonjaryn's point that a large portion of mainstream music is oriented by profitability rather than artistic quality.
Also -- Disco was pretty much just a cheap rip-off of old school funk. And no, it's not an "evolution" of the genre because all it did was take the same rhythms and sampling technique but use pop and synth samples in place of the previously used funk samples. Of course there are exceptions, like Zapp.
Nobody remembers this... But they should... Great 90's rap... Nas was the man back then... I wish he could've dropped these kind of lyrics more consistently... You gotta love this...
"still survivin but...there's a few down...back in the essence/ i'm askin questions, on the phone wit jail adolescents"...i LOVE that line! This is that real hip hop shit.
Wow, so did anybody else catch how NAS describes an actual "Street Dream" he had?
Check the end of the last verse when he describes his Nightmare, Thats crazy!! Only NAS could pull that type of metaphorical use of the term "Street Dreams" off! GOAT!
i think every one who loves old school music should start a petition to put this music back in rotation, i have not bought a cd since 2007 0r 08, and if i do by a cd its for certain its not from this era, it saddens me how the industry has forgotten that these artists are the reason they are livin lavish right now

@KevinPaul444 I agree, why do they need to take it off. They don't really play this song all the time on the radio. They probably aren't even losing any money by the video being on Youtube. Just some greedy bastards in my opinion.
@hypie1989 Big L was just a notch above Papoose. That shit ain't for everybody, I'm from NY and there's only so much I can listen to a cocky dude rap about the same stuff all the time. He could tell stories, but there wasn't much soul in his material.
@kennyboynton3 excellent point.thats prob the best way i ever heard put.a lot of people try to put big l up there but that is the exact point thats keeps from the elite.and i really dont see him as a great story teller.just a cocky confident clever rapper no doubt but not up there with the greats that r currently mentioned
I dont understand why rappers cant just straight up rap anymore. you look back a couple years and even southern rappers were good. now its just about rims and being in the club and dances. no more straight up rapping ..
Hell no he ain't! i mean no doubt nas is one of the best ever and is 100 times better than lil wayne or drake or any of the fake ass mother fuckers today. But 2Pac is the most gifted rapper ever followed by biggie. Nas is maybe 4th or 5th
@kigit1 what makes you think anyone is going to value your extremely standard and unintersiting opinion on the greatest rappers alive, that stupid list discussion is so played out

nas is the best mc ever
tupac is the best rapper ever

My Top 5 1.Big L 2.Nas 3.Biggie 4.Tupac 5.Big Pun
hypie1989 1 year ago
@hypie1989 Big L was just a notch above Papoose. That shit ain't for everybody, I'm from NY and there's only so much I can listen to a cocky dude rap about the same stuff all the time. He could tell stories, but there wasn't much soul in his material.
kennyboynton3 1 year ago
@kennyboynton3 excellent point.thats prob the best way i ever heard put.a lot of people try to put big l up there but that is the exact point thats keeps from the elite.and i really dont see him as a great story teller.just a cocky confident clever rapper no doubt but not up there with the greats that r currently mentioned

I know man...peolpe don't understand how hip hop music , shit music in general, is suppose to sound these days....
enysp 2 years ago
I dont understand why rappers cant just straight up rap anymore. you look back a couple years and even southern rappers were good. now its just about rims and being in the club and dances. no more straight up rapping ..
32jview 2 years ago 4
I agree i miss that old shit.
now its Drake, lil faggot and soulja gay
... Nas is the best to touch the mic
JW2K3 2 years ago 66
@JW2K3
Hell no he ain't! i mean no doubt nas is one of the best ever and is 100 times better than lil wayne or drake or any of the fake ass mother fuckers today. But 2Pac is the most gifted rapper ever followed by biggie. Nas is maybe 4th or 5th
kigit1 1 year ago 2
@kigit1 what makes you think anyone is going to value your extremely standard and unintersiting opinion on the greatest rappers alive, that stupid list discussion is so played out

My name Is Rohain Arora and I am A Canadian Rapper
I write about things that people my age can relate to,as opposed to the fabricated propaganda that is so prominent in the music industry today. My creative expression is my biggest priority and has played a major role in my development as a person and as a performer.A lot of people complain that Hip-Hop is dying. So revive it by checkin
