  • 'Buissnes, always buissnes' The Greek

  • i absolutely love 1,2,3 and most of all 4, but this version is awful

  • you gotta keep a devil way down in a hole....

  • The fact that they kept Bodie smashing the camera for all 5 seasons is just another reason why The Wire is the greatest show ever.

  • Seasons 3 and 4 had the best music imho. I liked series 1 too. Tom Waits did my head in but at least it was different to typical tv opening themes. This is by far the worst.

  • A great song in all seasons, but I'd rank them:

    5, 4, 2, 3, 1

  • best version by far, and its not even close.

  • The bigger the lie, the more they believe

  • For sure my least favorite version of the song. I'd personally rank them: 2, 3, 1, 4, 5. (best to worst). They're all good though.

  • OOH no, worst version...

  • best version by far

  • Worst version by a mile.

  • Season 4 FTW, but 3 was cool, too. Worst was season 2.

  • Season 2 has the best theme.

  • This is the WORST version--the best was Season 4 by far!

  • @nexttsar hahaha troll u funny

  • The opening scene of season 5 is hilarious, yet shows the uneducated youths in society.

  • Season 5 has the best theme AINEC.

  • in the hole, in the hole...

  • this version sounded too optomistic

  • @youngboysnation

It's intentional to show the medias constant sensationalism and conservatism.

  • You can't swing a dead cat in Baltimore without hitting a...

  • Bollox. People need to see a bit of this non Stalinist realism to wake up. It's about time u forgot Disney as a moral marker. It's not reality. The Wire gives the reality of the situation and brings poverty of thought, system and love to the world. It's a social statment. Many have eyes but do not see.

    With all my love.

  • This is definitely my favourite version, with Season One close behind.

  • Should've kept Tom Waits for the final season. How can you compete with God himself?

  • Steve Earle's character (Walon) totally deserved way more airtime than he got. Actually come to think about it, so did practiaclly every single character on that show.

  • In Baltimore we aim to hit a nigga

  • You can tell this one had more of a modern feel to it, kinda like Law & Order.

Whereas all the others had kind of a rugged feel to it.

    It worked for Season 5.

  • @LAJCain Glad I'm not the only one who thought of Law & Order.

  • my least favorite but not terrible

  • Worst version eevvvveeerr

  • Very uninspired and bland. By far the worst version of this great song.

I love the season 4 version of the song. It's strange, cause I mostly listen to classical music and rock.

  • I love Steve Earle in the show, but I have to say this is probably the worst of the 5 versions of the song. If I had to rank it I would be like this.

    1. Season 1

    2. Season 2

    3. Season 4

    4. Season 3

    5. Season 5

  • This is my favorite one. The Season 2 one was my least favorite. I love this show so much. One of the best ever to grace our TV screens.

  • @ShirtlessLocke Lol season 2 was the original version. Why the hell isnt this version on the soundtrack? :(

  • this is my second fave after the first

  • this is my fav one.Blind boys of alabama and tom waits really done my head in after a while.

  • Steve Earle's a'ight, but the Blind Boys of Alabama were my favorite.

  • this is definitely my favorite of the 5.

    good stuff steve earle

  • great! :)

  • Steve Earle is the performer, also cast on the show as Bubbles' sponsor Waylon

  • @DJCRAZYK09 Really? Nice, I did not know that.

This is my favorite show of all time btw!

  • i prefer this one

  • Comment removed

  • prefer the old song

  • Whats the old song - it's a new singer/group every season.

  • dude mcnutty is such a giant badass

  • yall dont kno music. SEASON 5 is thee shit !

  • Man... I just realized they're all covers of the same song. ROFL. So slow. Anyways, this version stuck out the most to me but season 2 and 4 would be tied for next best.

Been watching all seasons back to back. Used to watch the show randomly (mostly season 4). Fucking love it now that it all makes sense.

  • i still prefer da old one it was more upbeat

  • Who does it?

  • this song?

    steve earle

  • First time I saw this, all I could think was:

"Wow! They had that shot of the guy breaking the camera in color all along."

  • Holy crap, get out of my head! That was my exact thought as well! :D

  • bah, domaje's worse than this!

  • season 2 has to be the most boring. but anyway i prefer this song cuz bubz sounds angry

  • what makes it sadder was that season 2's theme was the original theme.

  • Are you joking? Tom Waits' version was the shit, 2 and 4 were the best theme songs.

  • oh dont get me wrong, season 4's theme song was great, but season 5 was my favourite. and i recently learnt that Mcnulty and Stringer Bell both have English accents, weird ha

  • Season: 1-4-5-3-2 in that order

  • Prefer season 4's theme

  • best version, fucking sick

  • this is my favorite version of the song, didnt know it was by bubz mentor

  • lmao Waylon ftw

  • best tv show since sopranos

  • I dont think The Sopranos should even be mentioned in the same breath to be honest....just my two cents..Cheers

  • this is randomn but i need to know the song played in one episode. the episode is series one episode 10..the cost

and the song is an old school hip hop tune played in a scene when they are in the back of the strip club about half way through. it is a tune a lot of you guys should know x lilly x

  • I went back & got that ep just to find out the answer, haha. Took a bit of hard listening but I was pretty sure from the vocals it was -Mos Def- ...& sure enough!

It's a track called 'Miss Fat Booty' from the 1999 'Black on Both Sides' album. good track, good album, good mc. Pretty far from old school but it definitely has that feel.

  • thanks i'm tryna make a Wire playlist too lol

  • IS THE GUY WHO DID THIS SONG, IS HE THE LONG HAIRED EX JUNKIE WHO IS BUBBLE'S MENTOR??? for some reason i had this crazy feeling that it was the ex junkie who sung this.

  • He is - Steve Earle.

  • 3-1-5-2-4

  • close:

    1-3-4-2-5

  • 3-2-1-4-5

  • Love Tom Waits, love Steve Earle even more, I'm glad he's getting some exposure, he deserves it, to me, he's bigger and better than Dylan.

  • My Favorite - 1

    Least Favorite - 2

  • it's funny that season 2 is your least favourite... that season is tom waits' version, and he's the one who actually wrote the song... i'm not sure what season is my least or most favourite, but season 1 is definitely up there!!!

  • i love season four and season five's themes. others were meh.

  • One of the many great things about The Wire is the way they change their credit sequence each season to reflect its thematic shift (Season 5--the media, for season 2 there was a more dock-oriented credit sequence) in addition to different covers. Some shows have had great credit sequences and modified them, but none has ever changed each season the way The Wire has.

  • D:! You mention the evil of which we shall not speak.

    That show needs to die.

  • this ok but 4 is way better! theme wise anyway!

  • i dontknow personally i like this one best so far

  • no way season 4's theme sucked. all about season 1 and 2 baby.

  • i disagree... all the other versions seemed better to me... this is alright.. but the others had more soul... just like the show... and seemed more blues.. less countryish

  • WATS THE NAME OF THE SONG?????

  • way down in the whole it's by tom waits, this is a cover

  • im guna upload the final track

itll b called something like Final Scene Music

  • I think it's the best....and in the final episode.....the long version.....Love it!

  • Best Version For sure

  • the best version keep the devil way down in the hole!!!

  • this is by far the best version. Steve Earle is siick

  • this is by far the best version. Steve Earle is siick

  • I love the show. Need to hear the closing song though.

  • pandemic nigga!

  • sopranos had one great season (#1) the rest are o.k. wire blows that shit away,

  • One great season? Hahahahahaha, you're fucking funny. Try 5.

  • Steve Earle - Way Down in the Hole

  • Love how they came full circle showing pictures of Wallace, D'Angelo, Avon, Frank Sobotka, Bodie and 'Bey

  • This is my favorite version even compared to the original Waits version.

    This show is so addictive!

  • i just learned the other day that the guy who sings this song, steve earle, is the same guy that plays waylon on the show...i guess he's been a popular musician since the 70's. i had no idea.

  • i love this song keep the wire good show

  • the song on the end is called the fall

  • yeah this song is sick

  • best theme yet in my opinion.

  • How sick is the wire, where do you rate it with other HBO series? Sopranos, Rome....etc.

  • 1st of alltime

  • You fucking piece of shit faggot

  • I like this mellow tune because we're at the end of the show's amazing ride

  • the citiwatch tapes activity...big brother

  • At 00:07 there's a "citiwatch"--which looks to be some sort of signpost. what is that exactly?

  • whos this song by ?

  • I DNT KNOW WHY...

    BUT I LUV THIS SONG...

  • I fuckin knew it!!!

  • the version is prettty good!

  • man the song dont even go with the show.

season 4's was the best song.

  • Absolutely the WORST version of the song from any season. Season 5 looks to be great but this version SUCKS.

  • Best intro theme IMO, I love the beat.

  • steve earle is great in the series but some people dont realize that he used to have a huge drug problem himself and was in jail on several occasions because of it....so playing the part in The Wire is not a huge stretch for him

  • who does he play on the show?

  • waylon that white dude with the beard that tries to help bubbles in rehab.

  • yeah ive seen every episode. At first i was like eh ok. It grown on me now. It sparks a nice good f*ck you, who are you mood with out the the gangsta feeling. Go whitey!

  • Yea it has grown on me too but my favorite was season 4

  • i like this one, after watching two episodes, it's kinda like rock music. After they dropped season 4 theme song, it was real hard to find something to beat the children choir from Baltimore. Season 4 theme really got to the same level as the show is. This one not so much.

  • the closing credits are money... love it

  • what is the name of the closing credits song, best thing in the entire world, just that fade in into that song beat.

  • I like the background music, but the vocals are monotonous with no variety, this coulda been the best opening theme, but I'm probably but it at #3, ahead of season 2 & 3 but behind season 1 & 4.

  • THIS IS THE WORST VERSION!!! WACK!

  • love steve earle!

  • I Only seen episodes 51, 52 i aint seen no other ones....

  • ur a dumb ass

  • I'd rank season 5 with season 2 as my least favorites. Season 1 and 4 were amazing. 3 was good and 2 and 5 are just OK.

  • İt's not bad at all; and ironic some way-like you're watching regular cop drama-semi rock/folk crossover intro. But actually, you don't.

  • İt's not bad at all; and ironic some way-like you're watching regular cop drama-semi rock/folk crossover intro. But actually, you don't.

  • Go Stevie.

  • Steve Earle, baby.

  • i actually like this theme song for season 5, not bad at all

  • 4th the best. I wonder why no rap version?

  • It has a nice, mellow tune to it. I still like the one from the fourth season the best though.

  • its kind of funny, wen i put the theme up yesterday it was the only one and then i checked today n theres at least 4. i guess a lot of ppl are finding the leaked episodes from season 5

  • episodes 1-7 are out, or at least from what Ive seen - anyone seen 8-10?

  • I'm looking for the latest episodes... y

  • I like it. Def. up there with 1 & 2.

  • i like it

  • I think this is the worst intro song in the series. 1,2 and were the best, then 4, 3, and this.
