Oddly, everyone remembers other L.A. bands from the era (Motley Crue, Chile Peppers, X, Germs, Go Gos, etc.) but The Motels had a way bigger scene. The Motels were the biggest band in L.A. at the time.
Thanks for finding this! I was in junior high this year and actually remember seeing the premier of this video on Mtv. I wish Mtv was the same as it was then...
I do remember staying up on Friday nights recording all these videos on the VCR. NBC used to have a show called Friday Night Videos that would play all new videos. Although I didn't like how they would play the "World Premier" near the end of the show.....Believe it or not, I still have the tapes, only if I can find a VCR that works...LOL
to me this is one of the most coolest underated songs of the 80s.Although it only got to #21 on the charts in September of 85,this would be the last top 40 hit for The Motels after having great songs like "Only The Lonely"...."Take The L" and "Suddenly Last Summer"
Man, I'm gonna start cryin' I love the Motels that album "Shock" is way out of print. I bought it as a cut-out cd in '87 for $5! The record cost me $8 new in '85. But it needs a re-pressing for those of you that don't have it
The Motels music bring back memories for me when I was in Jr. High and High School in 1982 to 1985 and I could relate to their music most of the time about relationships and heartbreak. Their songs really lift my spirits and help me to begin a new journey.
that i do....i was in a marriage of ten years then i met a lady ten years younger...it started with a kiss, a whirlwind romance(3 months) and then i let her go because her friends dissapproved...and then ...and now i am single...
My favorite song from the Motels. Marhta was definitely an exotic beauty. The only thing I didn't like about the video were all the scenes and images of the roaches. Very disgusting. Not something you want to see if you're watching tv in the dark or eating a snack.
Shame on the record companies and execs who didn't properly promote her...especially when she went solo with Policy... She should have been SO much bigger than she was, but a phenomenal talent, nonetheless...and those eyes!
i always hear "classic fm" in my local radio, were they usually have some great songs from the 80s and 90s were lots of good music was made, and yesterday this song popped out. i was born in the 90s but i highly appreciate this songs, they have such a rythm and i no longer hear so often this simple brilliance on actual songs. bravo martha davis!!
Tengo 46 años y en realidad no puedo olvidar este tipo de ritmos, canciones y notas.

Shame...That's what I've been feeling because of my reaction to some issues at work yesterday. It's a decent job, but I don't like being talked down to and having to repeat myself constantly. It's some tough stuff, but the lyric "Shame on me/Shame on you" describes where I'm at...Shame on me for being frustrated, shame on the managers for not understanding where I'm coming from. I'm just glad that October 31st is over...It's now a new month, and hopefully a new day.
I love this woman! She's so exotic and hot! I love her sultry looks and sexy moves! Forget my ex-wives! I should've married her back in the 80's!!! Shame on me for being such a pervert at my age. NOT!
the summer my family got cable my sister and i went beserk over mtv. i can remember singing "shame on meeeee, shame on you.." in front of the mirror and the tune still lingers in my memory for some reason. funny how the brain works sometimes. this takes me wayyyy back
This song has a special meaning in my life as it takes me back to 8-16-85 the day I 1st soloed an airplane. In fumbling around in the cockpit I touched a Navigation radio audio button which picked up a signal from a regional radio tower NDB 1190. Anyway this Motels song was playing while I did one of my three solo take-offs and landings.

Killer song. One of the most distinctive voices in music. If you like rock ballads with female vocalists try "Hands Tied" by Scandal, "Don't Get Me Wrong" by the Pretenders, and "I Get Weak" by Belinda Carlisle.

Great song, great video. I saw them at Toad's Place, New Haven (CT) around '86... I don't remember much from those days, but I remember that that they (and Martha Davis) were awesome. Too bad they didn't have staying power - what a cool voice.
There is only one Martha! The Motels were talent that stands the test of time. They had a killer sound, look, and feeling. They made film-noir videos when so many others were doing some guy-chasing-girl schlock. Martha is a talented life force! I have hopes someone making a movie will have sense enough to insist she sing the title track, and awaken the mainstream to the magic of Martha Davis.
I love this song. I remember when I was wild in college and everytime I wake up, I feel ashamed. I love Martha Davis and she was best in this video like just Suddenly Last Summer and Only The Lonely. I love you Martha and you will last forever in my heart!
Martha appeared on "Hit Me Baby One More Time" about a year ago, but lost to PM Dawn. I felt bad, because they made her sing a truncated version of Only the Lonely. Not just an 80s singer. She's much more than that, as this video and song proves.

This is indeed a masterpiece for its time (1985/86) is visually, gorgeous! 24-25 years later I've seen more unimaginative videos.
THIS ONE: is a class act! Critics, think about it before you pounce: this was a brilliant innovative video back in the day (1985/86).
