How long did it take for the bird to start talking? I've constantly been repeating the word "hi" to my pet cockatiel and it just ignores me and starts scratching itself! Please help and tell me what i should do to get it to talk...My cockatiel is a male
To the person who uploaded this video -- don't let the bird hang out on the bottom of the cage like that. When they "forage" for seeds, they inadvertently eat their own poop and can contract illness that way. I'm not kidding. I spent a month treating my bird for it, and now never let her on the bottom of the cage, and I clean out the droppings daily.
@phatmic6922 that is not true about the color of the cheeks. i had one that had the dark cheeks and it turned out to be a girl.she started laying eggs and she was stuck with the name jeff.
@trickyfoxart I've had females with really brilliant colored cheeks too, but that's definitely the exception to the rule, and more common in mutations such as cinnamon, it's pretty rare in normal gray. The one really easy way (with the normal grays, and most mutations) to tell if a cockatiel is female (visually speaking) is if they retain the barred pattern under their tail once mature.
@atom608 Yeah it's the basic "step up" command. Some birds will do it more willingly than others. My 'tiel learned it pretty fast, but my other bird was a little more hesitant. It's all about trust :)

why does it's cage not have a wired base before the litter tray? Its dirty that the bird walks on its poop and its lovely tail gets dragged in it's shit.

And don't say "no offense" after you say something offensive. 2: The cage barely has any perches and there should be something over the newpaper like a metal thing because if there's not, the bird can eat his poop which is bad for it and also the "fumes" or whatever in the poop isn't good for the bird to be too near to.
