A long forgotten cartoon if ever there was one. In the Boston area they always showed this along with Felix the Cat, Popeye and Hercules on "Boomtown" (WBZ-TV Channel 4).
It came on early in the morn where i was from..before school...a great ego booster before going to 3rd grade imagining you had a magic belt..lol...this is great stuff
This is the version I remember also. I recall watching it around the time I began kindergarten or just before, so that would fit in with the 1965-1966 time frame. My teenage children find it strange that I can still sing this from memory.
OMG! I used to watch this as a kid, like over 30yrs ago! I remember it was on when I got home from school. Really bring back some memories. Another thing I really miss is Saturday morning cartoons. Nickelodeon + Cartoon Network pretty much all but destroyed that. I still believe, when something is at your fingertips, 24/7, you don't enjoy it as much as if it isn't. It's the "anticipation" thing. Waiting all week for those Saturday cartoons, they seemed better then they actually were.
Wow.I have walked around with this song in my head for more than 20 some odd years wondering if it really existed or I just imagined it. Thank you for bringing this back,it deserved to see the light of day once more.
I hadn't seen this in 40 years. I was surprised how much of it I remembered once I saw it again. Talk about nostalgia. The last time I saw this, I was in kindergarten. Thanks for posting this and reminding me of my early childhood.
This was my favorite TV cartoon theme when I was a kid! And I remember being disappointed when the later Sinbad Jr. cartoons replaced it with that jazzier rendition (where Sinbad subdues the pirates on his ship) that took away all the sea shanty flavor of the original. Thank you for bringing back this wonderful memory.
Ironic thing is many of music cues producer Sam Singer used, especially on the pseudonymousy produced earlier 1960 "Courqageous Cat" cartoons [in his then-as-named Trans Artists ;)] USED to BE used first by successor Hanna-Barbera, but no more by the time THIS show was done [they're the same tremendously large Capitol records cues everyopne knows, the ones WB used on a few cartoons of 1958 due to a professional Hollywood music strike,, but most know the story there.] And fun theme song, too.
Actually, this was produced in 1965 (I know this because this was seen locally during "THE CHUCK McCANN SHOW", on New York's WNEW-TV, every afternoon at 4 in 1965-'66). TWO animation studios "split" the production schedule: Sam Singer produced about half of them, and Hanna-Barbera [slicker animation and music score, with different voices- Tim Matheson {"Sinbad Jr."} and Mel Blanc {"Salty"}] the other half...
actually you're wrong...the sam singer version was produced in 1961 and was slated to be released by his company trans artists but the character was owned by american international outright. a deal was struck and american international released the cartoons along with new cartoons produced by hanna-barbera. the h-b version went through their machine and came out looking as slick as everything else the were producing in 1965.
I remember seeing this all the time on KVOS 12 after school all the time, Thanks for posting.

Also, I just noticed that at 0:32 (the point were it seems to be clearest), if you look very closely the copyright date is 1965.

Sinbad the Sailor, sailing around the sea.
Whenever he gets in trouble it's the magic you will see.
So shiver me timbers, he will be as strong as a hurricane (Salty squawks)
Over the Bounding Main (backing vocals singing simultaneously - "Shiver me timbers, hoist the sail and make the ship rock").
