Now thats what I call an ambulance!! None of these Dodge/Mercedes Sprinter vans, no Ford TypeIII converts- a nice Freightliner 5 ton chassis with a Type III box- NICE!!!
The reason they sound the siren with no one on the road is that state law requires it. If lights are on siren is on no exceptions. Many fire department sops and emergency medical services systems have response guidlines based on the type of call and require the ambulance to respond code. and if you wanna talk about noise pollution why doesnt someone do something about the cars that are pumping nothing but base at levels that would give a hard of hearing person a hedache
There should be a way for the electronic siren to automatically go to Yelp when the Q (or in this case the eQ-2b) is audible. Q with Wail serves no advantage at all over Q/Yelp or Q/Powercall. Motorists will associate the sounds of a siren and an alarm with one vehicle, but when you use Q/Wail people will look for a second vehicle that doesn't exist.
Why should red lights be all on/off? Then there would be a point when the lights are off, so people might look back in their mirror and say "Oh, it turned off it's lights" Robert, I'm sorry but I've seen your comments in numerous places, and I just don't understand where you are coming from.
All On/All Off is MUCH better at attracting one's glance than many little flashes.
You're right, there is a period of no light. (We have some steady burning lights for that.)
But when ALL light together, it creates a more powerful visual "snap" which draws attention of unexpecting eyes.
I coordinated all of the lights and it made a big difference. Drivers noticed and cleared much further ahead allowing smoother progress (less slowing and accelerating) and less use of the siren.
I agree! I KNOW this is true...a simple back and forth pattern on the rig I drive works WONDERS over the previous rig with a light bar, strobes, a box lights. We've 5 box lights accross the front of the box, the center 2 go with both the grill lights, and when those are off the 2 outer box lights go. Just back and forth. They double-flash each time they go back and forth. It works the best! We also have a sime wig-wag HLF. Saved LOTS of money too!
What r u trying to say?! Most of the time when they get a medical call, they won't clean out a station, they will send 2 units (or more) from different stations. So either this was a VLS emergency or they sent an E/RE/TL/T from another station to respond with M440.
What are you trying to say? I know that, I'm not stupid. I know the county like the back of my hand. Medic 421 was most likely already out on another run, and Medic 40 is 2nd due.
I don't quite get what you're saying, though. For all ALS Calls they send out an Engine and Medic. For BLS Calls they usually send out a Medic and an Ambulance, if one is avalible. All Fairfax County Engines are Paramedic Engines.
Besides, we were talking about the Q on the Medic, not what they send on the call.
Oh. I wasn't saying that to you. I know that you know pretty much everything about the county. But I have one question, when the dispatcher says (example) "truck 422 respond to assist units already in route, box 2207".... What does box mean?
do you guys always have to use the siren, even if there isnt any traffic, we dont do it over here in NZ, is it a law for you guys over there

Usually, I'm not a fan of the electronic Q, but the way it sounded with the reverberation as it went down the street was pretty cool.

Why sound the siren when NO traffic?
People are sick of needless noise pollution.
I would have been silent there and not annoying residents.
TWO electronic sirens? Ridiculous. And waste of money.
No louder than one. Just use the eQ and sound it sparingly just as needed.
Real Q at least can be sounded at lower volume by reving at lower speeds.

RED LIGHTS should be coordinated to be ALL ON/ALL OFF. Much more effective than all das little random blinkin' lights.
Same with light bar patterns.
Nothing creates greater visual impact and catches the unexpecting eye better than ALL ON/ALL OFF.

I Believe all, if not most Ambulances and Medic units in Fairfax County have atleast a EQ2B Siren. I Know some have actual Q's on them.

When I said what are you trying to say, I ment it to bossmonkey727. Because he said .."wit a q."

Oh, and one more question. Is it VLS or BLS emergency? and I figured out what bossmonkey was tryi'n to say. The "eQ2b" siren.
