Marver has a gutter around sides and front? And a raised lip in the back? If so, any particular reason?

I really does help. Also it flips lefty/righty. We only have it on our biggest gloryhole.

interesting sheild. how effective is it?
nice. left-hand only furnace? GH shield & bench are setup for a right-hander. Gaffer is obviously a lefty that can go either way.
I think i figured it out. When the carbon is gone it is at the right temp?

No, sorry, that's not it. The carbon black is there to keep the canes from sticking to the pastorelli as they come up to heat. We judge the right temp by the color and by how the canes have fused. Thanks for the great question and logical guess!!
